Khonshu is fascinating. My first exposure to him was in the “Moon Knight” comics. Where it was believed he was the one who healed Marc Spector. After his run in with tomb raiders.

Egyptian mythology has a very large variety of gods and goddesses that happen to share similar fields and purposes. Like Khonsu being one of several Egyptian moon Gods.

0:00 So this Khonsu well that was good. 0:18 Cool now that was quite style. 0:46 People are here to worshipped Khonsu in Temple with many gifts were given to them. 1:07 There a dead body and Khonsu was here. 👏👏 Now that was fantastic story of Khonsu The Moon God of Ancient Egypt Mythology in history.

It's a stretch to say that Khonsu is THE god of the Moon in Egyptian mythology. It should be just *A* god of the moon with a decent fleshed-out story behind him. There are a lot of Moon gods in their religion across 3100 years. Iah is the literal name for the moon and also its personification, Thoth is a moon god as well, and Horus' left eye also represents the Moon. There are a lot of them
@bennu547 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t call Horus a moon god though. Aside from the eye thing, he has stronger ties with the sun. It doesn’t make sense to call him a moon god if it’s only one little thing that attributes him to the moon and everything else is sun, sun, sun
@bennu547 Жыл бұрын
Sekhmet is a better sun deity for example because a lot of her powers are contributed to the harsh rays of the sun like drought. Her powers are a direct connection to the sun. Horus doesn’t have that with the moon so therefore he’s not a moon god. He may have some moon attributes but it’s not like he has any abilities that correspond with the moon like Sekhmet’s drought powers with the sun because of extreme heat. Sun causes droughts so therefore Sekhmet you could call a sun deity. Also she’s Ra’s, the literal sun, daughter

I thought it was just fictional character from Moon Knight. I didn't knew he was really part of Egyptian pantheon. I saw many videos about Egyptian Gods but never once I heard about him till now.

The "time" part of his domain is half of the time referred to as "youth". Other appearances of him is that of a green skinned human, with an ancient Egyptian hairstyle know as a sidelock (bald head with only a ponytail on the side).

Fun fact: In God of War: Ragnarök, Týr’s left arm is covered in Egyptian hieroglyphs which grew back after Garm but it off. I wonder if Khonshu had a role to play in the regeneration of Týr’s arm? 🤔

I'm surprised you didn't talk about the Bentresh Stela story. One of the more flesh-out story with Khonshu as the central figure and displays his healing powers. Or the one where Thoth gambled with Khonshu for some of his moon light, which is one day's worth of time.

The word God in the English language comes from Indo-European ("goth"), and it is derived from Proto-Indo-Iranian Vedic Sanskrit (hotr) meaning sacrifice"). What did they sacrifice, people. Proto-Germanic called their demon gods *gudą.

Since Khonshu is the diety of moon, he would be able to control the tides. Speaking of which, if other planets in the galaxy had populations, how would they imagine their moon gods ?
