Some people, including myself, don't always dive into every detail you mention. I'm one of them. While I can comfortably navigate Windows and know my way around it and have checked out a bunch of PC optimization vids, things like network tweaks, registry tweaks, CMD stuff, or playing with services can be a bit overwhelming. It's hard to determine their exact impact or whether they're necessary. Personally, I don't do the network tweaks because I'm unsure of their effects. Nonetheless, your content is generally helpful and informative. Keep up the good work with your videos!
@rustyshackleford41177 ай бұрын
Network engineer here, this is a great video but my biggest gripe here is that he's recommending a ton of NIC tweaks that are very much likely to cause more harm than good in a large percentage of mixed workloads. People also don't realize that many NIC tweaks are very hardware-specific, down to the exact model of NIC, nic driver, and windows version. One set of tweaks that may decrease latency slightly could lead to high retransmissions the user isn't able to notice without doing a packet capture, and these tweaks which could work well for a Intel NIC model X, could be hugely detrimental to Intel NIC model Y. There are very few settings if any that could be argued to be 'uniersally beneficial’, even tweaking things such as DNS query frequency can break a lot of windows features and applications indirectly and in very specific one-off scenarios. With networking tweaks, any minor change which affects latency or throughout in scenario Y, is going to be at the cost of worse performance in scenario or workload X. These are all best left at defaults, and unless you're familiar with writing NIC drivers or networking application code you're more likely going to cause more harm than good in a lot of workloads. Outside of worse latency and bandwidth, they can cause all sort weird application issues and behavior that can be incredibly difficult to pinpoint down the road and in many cases will not even appear as a network related issue. For example, a specific part of an application either fails intermittently or is slower than expected-- just because you messed with something that indirectly will affects TCP window sizing behavior or hardware scheduling (the rate at which packets are queued versus written to the hardware ASICs) on the NIC itself.

Not sure what you’re optimizing here… you’ve done several tweaks that will make general performance worse (like disabling prefetch, disabling prefetch will make apps open slower and only uses a couple gigs of storage. Using storage doesn’t impact performance.) Most of these tweaks have absolutely no impact on gaming performance and some even make overall performance worse. This is why following big general guides is never a good idea especially if you don’t know what the tweaks do…
@hitler693 ай бұрын
prefetch isnt really needed imo because we arent on hdds anymore. a lot of the thing he's doing in this vid directly contributes to lower dpc latency.
@MostSaneOWPlayer2 ай бұрын
yup, i did all of these things and my fps increased a tiny bit but now my games are stuttering, the 99th% fps goes from like 120 to 89 to 65 to 23, etc. Now I need to find out what I need to change. I already Restored my pc to normal but like he said, some things don't reset when doing that.
@lleen2 ай бұрын
First of all, can you understand that system optimizations, for the most part, do not affect performance as much as you might think? And that they actually only help with latency itself. That the performance increase actually comes from updated BIOS or hardware. If you came to this video looking for a miracle of +100 FPS, this is not for you! Another point: Microsoft itself recommends disabling sysmain/prefetch, as this is a feature more targeted at HDD and not SSD/NVME.
@Portneau-z6v2 ай бұрын
@@lleen this is all nonsense. This guide will give you practically no change in latency PLUS various changes that you don’t want to make and are 100% not recommended by microsoft. Microsoft does not recommend you disable prefetch.
@lleen2 ай бұрын
@@Portneau-z6v Yes, you will find what I am saying in Microsoft support, just google it and you will find it. And no, it is not nonsense, do not use your guesswork or your experience as a deciding factor for other people, research and study about it, just like Amit, Boring, Calypso and other tweakers. Microsoft will not recommend almost 100% of the things we see as optimization simply because they do not want you to improve this bloated system, full of telemetry and blotware, but nobody is obligated to you, obviously, just do not say what you do not have property.

You are an amazing human. I've had a 3050 ti laptop since 2021 that barely gets 140fps in COD in 1080p at low settings. Since following all your steps I can see 175-200, or 150fps at mid-high settings in 1080p. I also did a repaste and a fresh windows 11 install. With a light undervolt on the gpu I see 2050mhz and 65C, before I was barely reaching 1950mhz at a toasty 75C, I could never undervolt past 2000mhz. Thank you!! My gpu is far less bottlenecked with these changes :)
