Love our EV6 GT line first edition.. has all the bells and whistles.. Actually looking at getting a second EV6.. my wife fell in love with mine, Funny thing is she prefers no sun roof and finds the heads up display to be distracting, so maybe a Wind modal will work. Great job KIA !

Great video ! Walked exact this road. Came to the same conclusion: No EV has got more to offer that the KIA EV6, especially considered the fact that the other cars more or less will cost you the same, as a KIA EV6, but the other cars will not even come close to the practicality which the KIA EV6 offers. Do not under estimate the lack of High Power loading within a reasonable 18 minutes which the KIA EV6 will provide you only ! All other comparative cars will make you wait significantly longer: 3 quarters of an hour or even over 1 hour at the public high powered Loading stations. This fact was for me the first selection criterion based on which EVs were eliminated. Why would I even seriously consider the purchase of a car which makes me wait for 3 quarters of an hour, if the same money can buy a KIA EV6 which takes only 18 minutes to fill up...? Then it turned out that all features like the battery heating which the KIA EV6 AWD has standard, needs to be ordered at practically every other EV make... and that the range of the KIA EV6 is the longest of all comparative EV's...? So the KIA EV6 drives the longest on it's battery charge and the KIA EV6 takes the shortest to actually load the battery at a High powered loading station (240 Kwh) So all together is was as clear as water that I was going to order 2 KIA's EV6 Wind AWD's And so I did! These KIA EV6's are an investment in the future and all comparative EV's are an investment in the past, really !

The heat pump efficiency comparison was very useful, as I’ve been trying to decide between RWD and AWD. It’s interesting to read all these comments in 2024. Kia dealers are now offering significant discounts. My EV6 Wind RWD with tech package is under $50k OTD.

probably the biggest advantage of the EV6 over ANY tesla, is dealer network for service.....and Kia/hyundai build quality is probably better. i am not on board with the EV vehcile thing yet....but the EV6 has me more interested than anything else made right now. As an owner of a 22 hybrid tuscon, im very happy with it and the ioniq EV is FUGLY. the Ev6, to me, is the perfect balance. im not ready to dump 60k on a vehicle that limits my ability to travel long distances and where i can fuel it etc and thats where for me EV isnt quite there for me yet. 400 miles range tested in real world in cold conditions will get me to take it more seriously (i dont live in cold climate, but i want an EV to be long range reliable in cold). (i drive 120 miles per day....so you can see why im still hesitant on range) If i didnt drive so much every day.....my perspective may be different. the EV6 is still on my mind and i really like it a lot.... another concern is EV in extreme hot climate, such as vegas...how reliable those batteries really will be in 110F outside, as well as the heat from the blacktop being at 150F radiating below the battery.

Interesting comment. I, too, feel the EV6 is at or near the top of my list as I try to learn this EV stuff. I live in Palm Springs, which is even hotter than Las Vegas, so, for the most part, I don't worry about cold much at all. I will consider my EV (when I get one, soon) to be almost exclusively a commuter, charge overnight in my garage. On the rare occasions that I travel by car a distance longer than 100 miles, I have ICE vehicles to handle that. I consider ICE vehicles, by the way, to be nearly obsolete. And they WILL be, for sure, inside 10 years.

im getting a "wind" trim but with all the GT line options in the EU ;) its really odd they have different options for each country. its a shame our Ioniq 5 in my country has only 2 trims and they are battery bound, while a few miles further they have 4 trims and each trim has the option of battery version ...

there is a possibilty to get a default for the media /airco buttons. when you have set the default it going back to that layout when you change the use . when you push for a second of 10 on the airco or media button you get a option to set a default

Nearly every review I’ve read dings the EV6 for the controls being finicky. Yet within a few minutes of ownership reading the manual I was able to configure it just as you stated. In a modern vehicle with auto climate control and nowadays adaptive auto climate control, you rarely need to adjust the settings manually so this “problem” is a non-issue.

Another amazing video Alex! We went from a Model S to ID4 and couldnt be happier except for electrify america and their broken chargers all over southern CA. That will become even more of a problem as aggressive F150 lightning drivers start looking for an EA charger I'm sure! The infotainment in the ID4 is awful and there is STILL no plug & charge feature which is really a safety issue when charging at night or in bad areas because of the time required outside the vehicle to start the charge. Kia is based here in Irvine and there are EV6's everywhere and it looks awesome and much bigger in person than in videos imo. But the ID4 has so much more interior space, until the ID BUZZ is out we love the ID4 and do not miss the wait at the tesla superchargers at all!

AWD with heat pump will get 3.4mile/kwh only in Eco. and it is also 3.2 in normal mode which is same as RWD without heat pump at 32F. If you live in a region rarely going into freezing, I think RWD will match the efficiency even in winter without heat pump. But if you live in a area, temperature is below 20F in the winter, the heat pump will not very efficient, so it will be almost same as RWD. heat pump AWD model will only make sense if you like in a region winter temperature is somewhere between 20F to 30F

Hi there, thanks for the comparison. You state the large battery pack has a usable capacity of 77.4 KWh. Can you tell me what source of information you have for this? I did a lot of research but most sources state this is the gross capacity. KIA itself doesn't mention gross or netto. So I'm confused... thanks in advance!

I just took delivery of an EV6 Wind RWD, no Tech package. I also own a 2020 Bolt LT. The Wind is for an upcoming cross country trip (AZ to NH to NC to FL and back to AZ). If Eco mode in the AWD achieves efficiency by disconnecting the front motor, what is happening in the RWD to increase efficiency in Eco mode? It shows an increase in estimated miles. There is no front motor. What actually happens with Eco in the RWD Wind? Thanks. As always your videos are very informative.

The AWD does disconnect the front axles from the motor to save energy, but the axles are still spinning while you drive, increasing mechanical drag and reducing range. The front motor increases weight which also reduces efficiency even when it isn't in use. That is why it still gets lower range than the RWD even in eco mode. As for what eco mode changes in the RWD model, it alters the A/C, heating, and other accessory functions to reduce consumption, it also alters the throttle map and regen settings to encourage more efficient driving.

Not sure I agree with you about Mach-E's having less of a mark-up issue. I have one and spend a fair amount of time in their forums and most are going for 5-10k over MSRP with an avg of about 7500 over. There are a few instances of no mark-up dealers but they're definitely few and far between.

I went to a Kia dealership here in the Los Angeles area, and looked at the wind version 2022 and the GT version 2022. Both of them marked up 30% from $55,000 to over $70,000. I was very depressed because $70,000 is not in my wheelhouse.

Seems like you’ve really soured on the Mach E in the past year Alex. Is it really just that fast charge difference? Would you definitely pick an EV6 over it? I have a Mach E, and have the opportunity to buy an EV6 (comparable models, AWD Premium / GT line). Is it worth selling the former to get the latter? I like the look of the MME more, the sound system is better, I like the glass roof, the cargo space, and the cabin feels more upscale. Feels like they should be more closely comparable, so why such favoritism of the EV6?

I wouldn't say that at all. The Mach E is still a solid EV. It's a bit roomier than an EV6 or Ioniq 5 and my quibbles about handling can easily be tweaked with a tire upgrade. I didn't sell the Mach E because I didn't like it, I sold it so we could test out something different :)

24:34 Yup, a $5,000 mark-up on the EV6 at Kia of El Cajon (San Diego area). They even wanted a $500 deposit for a test drive! Avoid dealers like this at all costs unless you're that desperate (or foolish). Unfortunately it seems at least 90 percent of the Kia dealers are engaged in price markup conspiracy.

All this craziness about the frunk, really don’t care where you store your stuff. Never cared in my E Niro and if I keep the charging cable in the frunk it frees up some room in the rear.

The Tesla, for example, is longer on a shorter wheelbase and also has very long (for a BEV) front and rear overhangs which is a lot of otherwise unused space that they allocated to storage. The Kia is styled with the sort of short overhangs and low hood, only possible on a BEV platform. Combined with a long wheelbase that maximises passenger space, there isn't a lot of room left for a big frunk or rear underfloor storage. Despite that, it is still no worse for storage than a similarly sized ICE crossover, and people aren't constantly criticising them for the lack of a frunk. Personally, I think the obsession with a frunk is more about novelty and distinction than it is about practicality and design.

I have both a RWD and AWD EV6. Get the AWD. It's worth the price difference. I like not only the extra power, but the extra regen force as well. On starting turns with a lot of pick up, the added traction also rocks. Now is the RWD also good? Yes, it is. But I would still recommend the AWD.

Excellent, as usual, Alex. But, crap, your mouth works faster than my brain! I'm still learning EVs from the ground up, and there are SO many variables. Sometimes, I'm not even sure of which vehicle you're talking about. It takes me about 45 minutes to go through this 35 minute video. Maybe if you left the graphics on the screen longer or inhaled before you switched between talking about the EV6 to the Mach-E it would help. A LOT of interesting facts packed into this piece as usual, though. Thumbs up.

I really like them but the range just isn't there yet. I went from my house in central VA to Williamsburg last weekend. 340 miles round trip returning in rain. Such a trip is well within range of an ICE, but no mainstream BEV could have done that trip without a stop to charge en route. Plus the high floors and low rooves compromise airyness and cargo space
