The biggest problem is that EV6 and EV9 are 800V so they'll charge at less than 100 kW at Tesla Superchargers, and there is no date in sight for when Tesla will upgrade to V4 1000V.
@keegan8543 ай бұрын
Also the short cables mean you often have to take up two stalls. I'll still prefer EA when available, but it's great to have Superchargers as an option in case EA is broken or isn't located where you need it. (Ironically, on my last 2,000 mile road trip, EA performed damn near flawlessly while the only charging failure that occurred was on a Magic Dock Supercharger). I've similarly used the 62.5/125 kW ChargePoint stations to bridge gaps in the EA network -- if you are just topping up and not doing a full 10% to 80% charge, it's not really much slower.

@@nitrobenz1694 Right, also most Supercharger stations aren't that busy most of the time. But it was a problem when I was in Marion, IL for the total solar eclipse and practically everyone who drove an EV of any brand had to charge at a single Supercharger site with 6 stalls 😅

Glad to be getting the access for sure, but it would have been nice if they could have opened up the network before the holidays. Lots of planned travel could have been that much easier! Since the 2025 models will come with a J3400 port, seems like a given that the adapters will be forthcoming. What's irksome is that Hyundai is still not listed on Tesla's NACS page for "coming soon." BTW, on a roadtrip last week, a camouflaged prototype plugged in next to us at an Electrify America site. I suspect it was a Hyundai Ioniq 9, sister EV to the Kia EV9, but I also suspect from what I could see that it was plugged in with a CCS1-to-J3400 adapter, i.e., it had a J3400 port!

I guess I didn’t expect them to give free adapters to everyone (although definitely would be nice), but limiting that to only sales made in the last 20 days seems lame. I would have expected them to go back to when they made the announcement that they were switching to J3400 on future model years.

Hello, My son and daughter in law in Bozeman MT are considering a new model Y. I am also considering to suggest an EV6 as an alternative to the Y. It’s great to see the basic supercharger compatibility issues being addressed. The 400V vs. 800/1000V issue may be a road block for them though as V4 chargers will be non existent in their region for the foreseeable future. From what I’ve seen elsewhere the V2 or V3 charge rates will make roadtrip “fast charging” stops not very doable with a 6 month on board. Can you do an episode going into you take on this situation?

As a owner of a 2019 Kia Niro EV, I do have a couple of questions that are not clear from the press release. 1 - Is some sort of Kia Connect status required? Currently, my Kia Connect is Inactive, and I don't think that if a plan is required I would be willing to pay for the Kia Connect subscription just to get access to the SuperChargers. 1a - I hope will still be able to use the Tesla app to start charging. Given the reliability of the Kia app, I don't want to have to trust that will work to get a charge. 2 - The press release does say that 2019-2024 Niro vehicles need to go to the dealer for a software upgrade. Do we know when the dealers will have this software? Are we going to need to wait until 1/15/2025 to start scheduling appointments for the new software, or is this something they have now?
