Thanks Marek for your review. I’m surprised that you are quite negative about the EV6 but it is maybe a matter of taste!? I’ve driven the E-Niro for more then 2 years and I’m super satisfied. With the EV6 KIA offers a good looking car with even better range, performance, space and technology. My GT-line will be delivered within two weeks so I’ll have the answer soon. 😁 Keep up the good work. 👍

Thanks for watching, and congrats on the car! We have this idiom in Poland (but I think it's similar in a number of other languages) "Appetite comes with eating". I think the e-Niro is a great no-nonsense EV. The EV6 and the IONIQ 5 are very interesting from the styling point of view, and I like their 220 kW rapid charging capability (which I have no opportunity to test out in Poland, but that's my specific problem). However in terms of everything else they are just like any other Hyundai/KIA. I wish they would have improved driver aids, rather than spend money on extravagant design.

EV6 RANGE PROBLEM I’ve had two test drives in the Kia Ev6, it’s great, everything the reviewers say it is. I arranged a longer test drive today as I have never owned an EV and needed first hand experience of range… if it was even close to WLTP figures I was ordering one at end of test. Test car was a 77kwh RWD GT Line S. it had a 98% charge and was showing a 285 mile range ( even at this point I thought the projected range was low, but I so wanted to be proved wrong ) WLTP range is 328 for a fully charged RWD. The outside temp was 12c and throughout the test it mostly rained… the car was in ECO throughout. Heating was on for first 25 miles or so, including heated steering wheel and seats, but I turned heating to setting one and seats and steering wheel cancelled heat output. I did 132 miles on test… 60 motorway, 60 A/B road miles, and about 12 miles urban driving. I used 75% regenerative braking and hardly used the brakes at all, the system was that good. At end of test battery was showing 92 miles range ? This equated to 224 miles off a 98% charge, providing I got the full 92 miles out of the batttery…. At start the car said I had 285 miles ? Interestingly, the car at start and end of test showed 2.9 m/kWh on display. This works out at 77 x 2.9 = 223. 3 miles… an exact measure of what the car was doing. In conclusion, WLTP figures of 328 miles … The car at start said I had a 285 mile range… My actual range at best would have been 224 ? And the car itself verified my figures via its miles per kWh display. I have been in touch with Kia UK but was offered no interest, explanation, or concern…. I was told to go on the EV FORUMS to see what they said. I really like this car and was prepared to stump up over £52k for it today…. If anyone can refute these figures or explain the 100 mile discrepancy in the range I would be appreciative ( I have photos of display at start middle and end of test to corroborate the range I achieved )

EVs are terrible on motorways. I just got back from a 500km road trip in the new iX. At 120 km/h I was averaging 29 kWh /100 km (do the conversion yourself, my head doesn't do MPG/MPkWh). That's about 50% more, than BMW claims. Around the city EVs get closer to the promised (or even exceed it, if you're really careful), but if you're planning road trips, look for very fast chargers at around half of the minimum claimed range. If this is not something you can cope with, I suggest you stick do ICE cars. And if someone tells you you're killing the planet, tell them to sod off, and go sit in their car by a 50 kW DC charger :)
@michaelsanitrnik64702 жыл бұрын
The catch here is the rain. EVs efficiency drops in rain (and snow alike). Most likely the rolling resistance of the wheel drains the energy. Have similar experience in my Tesla Model 3, the car takes about 10-15% more energy in rainy conditions compared to dry roads, the rest being equal. Generally the EVs are extremely efficient in good conditions but take relatively big penalty for anything less that perfect. ICE vehicles are terribly inefficient, but once they get moving, they take hard conditions easily and with little impact on consumption (relatively). Note that the EV´s 75kWh battery is equivalent of 5l gasoline. It is wonder you can still squeeze the range north of 400km out of that...

Thank you for introducing the EV6, if you add up all the new functions of the vehicle, there is hardly a better electric car. World's first integrated drive axle. New shock absorbers from ZF frequency-dependent "Sensitive Damping Control 3", 800 volt charging technology, V2L, blind spot monitor, etc. Now, however, Kia has released details on how exactly its newest car can compete with Audi, BMW and Mercedes - and at a fraction of the price. Sound-absorbing materials in the floor, in the wheel arches, doors, tailgate and tires reduce road and wind noise and, together with front and side windows made of acoustic glass, ensure an extremely low noise level that corresponds to that of higher-class vehicles.

I think I very slightly prefer the Kia, for styling and practical purposes. Fab review as usual. With you all the way on infrastructure. Here in the UK, Tesla have installed over 750 charging points, which is great, but there are 30 million cars on our roads, so, not so great, yet.
@extreme88088 ай бұрын
You are, as usual, right about the charging infrastructure. As much as I have no love for Tesla, gotta give them credit - they got their cars on the road along with their charging infrastructure. Not something European carmakers are doing. Then again, an argument could be made about Tesla chargers being proprietary, which is the point of spreading them with the same pace as the cars. The policy of making a car AND putting a charger seems to be working though and European carmakers should definitely take note. On topic - I love the design of EV6 and the Ionic 5! For me, brave bold design choices are to be applauded and embraced. Both cars are different and very personal by design. Porsche - listen carefully and stop making your fastest car in a Beetle-shape 😅😅

If we assume you only want an EV - I'm not sure comparing EV6 with Mercedes and BMW cars is "fair", I mean it depends on your budget for a car + how much you can afford in maintenance cost in the future if you plan to own the car for many years. If those costs aren't an issue but you just don't want to pay more than needed sure, but they aren't really in the same price range - considering maintenance costs also , Kia also offers many features out of the box where other car makers might start "lowish" but when you have picked all the extra stuff the Kia had off the shelf then the price has come up quite significantly. EV6 rivals are more like Skoda Enyaq, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Ford Mach-E

I have test driven the Enyaq and EV6 back-to-back and being a Skoda driver for almost 15 years I can say that the EV6 is a far superior car. Camera is better, steering is smoother, braking and acceleration is more fluid, the seats are better, the dashboard is more thought through. It doesn't feel like a brick to drive compared to the Enyaq. The cabine is less noisy than the Enyaq and the sound system is miles ahead of Skoda's. So yeah; my next car is going to be the EV6, for sure.

hi Marek, I appreciate your review of the Kia EV6. Though I must say I do prefer it to the other EV's out there. Mainly due to the styling, and Kia includes all the safety kit as standard ( especially if you buy a top spec model) unlike say Mercedes, Audi cars that will creep up in price when you add all the necessary safety features. A lot of reviewers seem to forget or neglect this point.

Fair point. However the driver aids Hyundai/KIA offer as standard are not as good as those, for which you have to pay dearly with the German rivals. I loved how you drove away with the DC charging cover hanging out. LOL. I actually think the Ioniq 5 and EV6 look great. Really progressive interesting designs. But Everybody keeps delaying their EVs deliveries to Canada. No ID4, Q4, Ariya, Ioniq 5 or EV6. I have no clue how I'll react to their driving dynamics. And only the ID4 and Q4 have been priced. ID4 45k to 58k, Q4 60k to 68k CAD. As a side note the Ioniq 5 gets the 77kW battery here in NA. I suppose my biggest concern with buying an EV is 2 fold. First I'm expecting the car to feel really heavy and secondly will be the charging times. If I like the ride, the Kia or Hyundai might win me over because of their quick charging times.
@MarekDrives3 жыл бұрын
It does feel chunky, especially when roads get rougher. But as far as I recall driving through the Rockies in Canada, the even worst roads marked as "We're so sorry, but we didn't have time to repave, beware of terrible road surface" weren't particularly bad by my standards :) As for charging, home trickle charge is fine for daily commute, just make sure there is >150 kW charging along the route on road trips. So probably no frequent trips through the Rockies. P.S. I just looked on Plugshare, and the trip we did from Calgary to Vancouver via Jasper, Kamloops, Whistler would be feasible in an EV, as long as every charger along the way actually worked.
@kevinn11583 жыл бұрын
@@MarekDrives I'll have to check around Toronto. Funny I'm right in the middle of the city and Electrify Canada hasn't built any chargers in the city. @MarekDrives2 жыл бұрын
Actually it's a valid point. Climate control is there to let you set the optimum temperature. It's supposed to be better than those manual settings, where you have to aim to get the right balance of hot and cold. Here it's either AC no heater, or heater no AC. There's no situation, in which the heater and the AC work at the same time to maintain the set temperature. And I get the energy saving arguments, but others manage to make EVs with functioning climate control. As for EVs, I have driven my fair share of them. I've done hypermilling road trips, regular road trips, I've driven them fast and slow, I've sat in traffic in them, etc. I recognise the huge advancement made since the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, but today I consider myself an EV sceptic. They're OK, but everything depends on the infrastructure. It's lovely the EV6 can take 220 kW, but there are 2 such chargers in Poland.

I think that for the moment, those brands are showing that you don't need to be pricy as a BMW, Mercedes, Audi or even VW to be good, fun and techy. Moreover, on the reliability side, Korean and Japanese brands are at the top. It's a shame that you're guided by your preferences and not by the facts.

First of all I don't think Marek is too much negative and prefer German brands. All points he mentioned are reality in Ioniq 5 so I think that will be the same here in EV6. Anyway I lost interest about German cars. I had so many BMW's and Audi vehicles (of course new at dealership) and so many problems with them, that I have changed my strategy and bought Ioniq 5 and ordered EV6 in blue color RWD and white interior. Those cars deserves more attention than German so called "luxurious" brands like BMW for example. I haven't found any luxurious things except very expensive natural wood combined with alluminum in my SQ7. On the other hand I agree with Marek, that ergonomy, intuitive interiors as well as perfect assist systems are far better in BMW, Mercedes, Porshce and Audi than in those two Korean vehicles.
