How do you check the oil life status from the dashboard?
@richardlong8014Ай бұрын
The 2025 K5 XLS 2.5 is a nightmare to change the filter. It ain't nothing like the earlier years. You can however use a Chinese socket set on the canister housing bolt. The filter drain bolt is a metric allen wrench. Removing the filter element from the housing you need to push a flat screw driver up the center of the hole after you remove the filter housing drain bolt. The element keepers are spring loaded. Pressing the button inside the housing should release it. Or you might just try yanking the cartridge off. Purely Micky Mouse in every way. The flat rubber gasket seal is half way down inside the housing. You need an ice pick to get it out. How this system is better than a spin on oil filter is beyond me. Good luck.

My Genesis has the same style filter. PSA, it takes a pretty decent amount of force to push the cartridge back on with the drain cock. When installing the cartridge into the housing, the drain cock has to be installed on the cartridge. You know you have it right when the hole in the housing and the drain cock are EXACTLY aligned (not offset). I wonder how badly quick lube places might mess this up as these filters become more common. Man I messed with this for 30 mins thinking I'm gonna crush the cartridge, then I gave it a little extra force, bam! The holes finally aligned.

@@saulmeza1215 if you like the car, and intend to keep it long term, I wouldn't go past 4000. Oil changes are cheap, new engines are around 10 grand, thats just the engine...not installed. Plus, these small engines, 1.6 liter, work hard, and the turbo adds more stress, add fuel dilution.....I'm doing mine every 3 to 4000 max. And the dipstick does smell a little like gas, but no increase, unlike the Honda, which shows a definite increase on the dipstick.

So did you order the filter online or can I get that at a dealership? I'm new to Lia I literally just got my 2022 k5 gt line about a month ago and I'm only at 2300 miles give or take but I've never seen a oil filter like this and like doing my own work. I'm also curious at what milage do I need to do oil change on this car...3000, 5000 or 7500? I know some newer cars you can go a little longer but don't want to wait until last min I like to find that happy medium. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your video also.

@TastySurrealBowl Жыл бұрын
You are right - the owner’s manual indicates 8,000 miles. My mistake. My personal preference is to stay at 5,000 mile intervals between changes with all GDI vehicles I’ve owned as they’re hard on oil. The oil viscosity breaks down faster in them. Coincidentally my Kia dealership’s master tech also recommended the same interval (unsolicited) for the same reason recently (at a visit re: rim compatibility questions). There are some good KZbin videos that cover GDI engines’ effects on engine oil I’ve caught in the last few years that backed up what I’ve observed in three different GDI vehicles we’ve owned from new (a Chevy, Subaru, and Buick). My feeling is spend a little more on oil now to hopefully save on repairs later after drivetrain warranty is up.

Thanks for the video! I just got my ‘23 K5 GT-Line 1.6L and picked up the OEM filter and the oil after watching your video. Doing the oil changes myself I plan to document my oil change intervals heavily (with a photo each time of the odometer and products used, including OEM filters & type of oil) as I’ve heard stories of warranty hassles resulting from not having conventional receipts showing required maintenance intervals documentation. This is the first vehicle I’ve encountered with so much plastic covers/plastic body trim connectors to get through just to change the oil.

Do you think all that work is Necessary in case of warrantyC
@TastySurrealBowl2 жыл бұрын
@@tioswift3676 The 2023 K5 owners manual does state oil changes recommended every 8,000 miles for the 1.6L engine, but I’ve just always kept a close eye on the oil quality of the oil in all my vehicles as the miles go by, and I’ve found that the direct inject (GDI) engines’ oil loses its viscosity faster than non-GDI engines. Based on experience I’d rather err on the side of caution (maintaining better lubrication than the minimum recommendation). There’s a lot of discussion online for the reasons why GDI engines are so much harder on oil, and once that OEM engine warranty is up you’ll be paying all engine repair costs out of pocket, so I’d rather spend a little more on oil over the life of the car than for issues that start to arise in the higher mileage range due to trying to pull more life out of degrading oil. Personal preference.
