It’s a bit of a marmite car, I like the high riding position and I think Kia are a top rate manufacturer. Would I buy? Yes because I’m old and it looks easy to get in and out. We currently drive an E Niro which is a fantastic car, some say it’s a bit dated but we like it, plus it’s currently doing 5 miles to the KWH.

It would be interesting if you did a program on the life of an EV, the cost and life span of replacing a battery, what the turn around in people changing their cars, do they change at 3 , 5 years? In buying a second hand EV what is the real value as it year of its use it battery life is shorter.

The important dimension with SUVs that is always left out from the specifications list is what is the length from the back of the front seats to the rear hatch with the second and third row seats (if present) folded down. This determines what you can actually put in the vehicle. Saying it has X number of cubic feet is pretty meaningless since it that is influenced by how tall the roof is. When I went shopping for my last SUV I went from dealership to dealership with a tape measure and crossed off any model that wouldn’t fit what I routinely carry. If Kia thinks millennials “live in their cars” I would think they would want to know if they can actually lay down in the back.

I have just the opposite problem. We have a J1772 level 2 charger at home, as well as I installed one at my mother's house so we could charge when we go visit her. My work has J1772 Level 2 chargers that we can charge on for free. It was great with my existing Chevy Volt PHEV. We just ordered a Model Y, and get delivery later this week. Now we will have to use an adapter to charge our Model Y because I am not replacing the chargers at mine and my mother's home, and my work is not changing theirs. Probably have to buy an extra adapter, so I can keep one in the car and one on the home charger.

I like it. They seem to have gone in the direction of cheaper and more practical, which I agree with. It seems to be positioned similarly to the ID4, but with more forward styling. People will complain about the lack of LFP batteries, but these batteries are on the larger side, which is not where LFP sits right now.

I don't understand this model strategy. The 10,000th >4.6m SUV, but no efficient, practical models for Europe. And by the way, I find the design almost as ugly as most new BMW's.

It’s not going to be cheap in most of the world and by the time it’s out there will be a revised Model Y which will match/beat that range and be cheaper. Does Look nice so will get some traction but expect production volumes to be pretty small. Wish it well but not really a Model Y competitor.

One of the main things missing for me is how efficient is it? in order to know that of course we need to know the battery pack size. and I’m most interested in the longest range which we don’t know the battery pack size for. otherwise if price would be down a little lower This would be a very nice car to buy!

All I can say is these are the same companies that produced all those ICE vehicles with no ignition starting system safeguards like a chipped key or a transponder, all those vehicles just being stolen with zero resistance offered from the manufacturer who knew it and still build and sold thousands of them to unsuspecting customers. No way I trust this company in the EV space if they basically fleeced their pockets with that garbage!! Just terrible public relationship and the trust factor for me is absolutely something they may never fully repair...

Is Kia building these for mass consumption or compliance vehicles? I spoke to a few Kia EV owners and they report charging issues. The vehicle will not charge at the higher capacity claiming heat is the issue. Not very encouraging if the support will fall off.

With how much Hyundai and Kia are investing and how many model they have it’s definitely not a compliant thing. The ev6 and Ioniq 5 are new products so there are bound to be some lingering pain. Give them time to iron out these things

The upcoming Volvo EX30 starts around $35K for the RWD base model but no Fed Tax rebate - depending where you live state incentives (like no sales tax + cash refunds) can be helpful.

I suspect it will be too expensive to successfully compete against the Model Y because of the NMC battery. Puting in a front consol is a styling mistake. Consumers have come to like the open space and flat floor between the driver and passenger. The boxy styling is fine because it makes the vehicle more utilitarian for transporting square objects.

The EV charging network in USA for non Teslas is so poor that I would not choose this over a Tesla at this time. Maybe in a couple of years when all EVs are NACS then nonTeslas can compete on an even level.

Just because other OEMs will have access to a portion of Tesla’s supercharger network, doesn’t mean they are all of a sudden on the same level as Tesla in market competition. There’s a lot more to Tesla’s market success than their charging network.

Thanks, I think they will sell very well, but can they produce enough, here in UK the demand for the EV6 is huge, but you have to wait a very long time to get one. Looks good, much better looking than Teslas. Kia and Hyundai are making some seriously good cars, no longer the budget car maker, but even their budget cars are excellent.

The EV6 used to be a long wait here in the US as well. The dealers were throwing on $5000-10,000 market adjustments to the price. That is why I walked away from buying one. Then the US tax credit kicked in and they are having a much harder time selling them. Dealers usually have at least a dozen of them on the lots. I see them now for about $7500 under MSRP, trying to make up for not getting the $7500 tax credit. Since this time last year, the price on them has dropped by $15K+. But even with that drop, my Model Y that I pick up later this week was still cheaper.

Maybe at $35K to compete with Model-Y. That's where the sweet spot is that Tesla is enjoying alone with the incentives. I think the psychological advantage of Tesla"s "mature software suite" and improving serviceability is finally paying off; not just an electric car or a smart car, but an integrated package included in the base price.

A fiberglass bathtub surround has better styling than a Model Y. I like this, and it even comes in a few colors! ((Black, white, and gray are not colors.) The interior is nice. But it's too big for me, too expensive, and I don't want a sunroof. I do want LFP batteries, a heat pump and not much else.

While I think a lot of people will find its looks attractive (and its good given its shape), its not my thing. I'm not a fan of the look of a "boxy" crossover personally but often they are practical vehicles (as "people carriers" are). The base level of the Model Y, at least here in NZ is priced pretty well and I would be surprised if the EV5 base model ends up cheaper here (certainly the Ioniq 5 is more expensive that the model Y here currently). Its a bit disappointing the base model is using a ternary battery too (as the likes of LFP effectively adds daily range due to always charging to 100% - not to mention potentially extended battery life and better stability). Also you don't get the Tesla Supercharger network. So, while I welcome all new EV models, I'm not seeing it as a game changer with what we know currently.

Finally pulled the trigger on a Model Y LR. My daughter will begin driving in about 3 years, so I figure that we will drive the Model Y, and then after she gets her license, she can have the Model Y to drive, and we will look for a new car then for us, and the selection and tech should be much better then. Not sure how these would qualify for the rebate if you leased them. As far as I know, it either qualifies or it does not. Leasing or buying does not matter. I think the reason for the rebate when leasing one that qualifies helps those that do not have a tax burden of at least $7500. So, they can lease it, and the lease company gets the rebate, and they have a tax burden of at least $7500. They take the credit and pass it on to the leasee.

Which is too bad as the Mach E is stunningly good. I had one for a week while my S was waiting for a part, and I couldn't believe how quiet, tight, and solid the ride is in that car. Ford did their homework. If the Mach had Tesla mechanicals, I'd probably buy one to replace my S when the time comes. Hell, I might anyway when they add the LFP battery to it as long as I can use the Tesla supercharger network on the once every two years I would need it.

It's a little bigger than I need and a little too expensive, but moving in the right direction, smaller and cheaper. I own a Niro hybrid now. And kia just sent me an offer to lease one of these EV5s for only $268 US per month for 36 months in California with around $6k down. Not bad. I'm thinking seriously about that offer.

I can believe the bit about millienials, but mostly just the younger late 20's millenials still living with their parents. Homes are becoming more and more out of reach for them. So they'll take more trips and vacations to get out of the house. In my area, 5 years ago, as long as you made about $70k a year you could buy a house. But now, you need 2 marrie professionals making over $110k combined to buy a house.

Why is every manufacturer chasing range? Range isn’t the issue. Not being able to reliably add another few hundred miles like an ICE is.

How many miles do most people drive every day, most weeks per year, most years? If you happen to drive 500 miles in a day, stopping for bathroom, food or charging for 20 or 30 minutes is a welcome break for most people, especially as you get older. You start off with a 100% charge from home, drive 200 or 300 miles, then charge to 80% during a break and then stop for the night and charge again. Is it unreasonable to take one meal, bathroom break or leg stretch in 8 hours of driving? How about two stops in 8 hours of driving? Most Americans work 50 weeks per year. They're not taking 3,000 mile road trips on a regular basis. It's faster, easier and more productive to fly long distances for a destination vacation, or business. That's why airports are always full of people. And if you want to take a long road trip and spend many days of driving, you can always rent a spacious SUV or any other ICE vehicle of your choice and drive electric the rest of the year. Do you really enjoy weekly gas station visits that much? Twice a year oil changes? Expensive gas? With an EV, it's also pretty nice to get into a warm vehicle sitting in your closed garage at home. Or, programming your vehicle to warm up at a particular time in the morning while it sits outside in winter melting away ice from the windows, all while you're still sleeping before waking up for work.

I like it but like many others here, I'm not interested in an EV that doesn't have LFP batteries.
