I had a customer's 2016 Sorento in my shop. The shift interlock solenoid would not disengaged the shift lock . I found the shift solenoid shorted. Also found that I was not receiving ground signal from the body control module. I think this is what's blowing that circuit in the body control module. So I guess it's best before the body control module is replaced, the shift solenoid on the shifter should be replaced. It can be obtained separately through a Kia dealer. If the solenoid is not replaced before the body control module it will blow out the new body control module. But I don't think I had to tell you that, have a good day buddy. Enjoyed the video 👍

Agreed on calling out a module. Always a hope so feeling even though you have done diligence. Great video.

Have the same issue with mine. Tried replacing the shift solenoid and brake light switch before realizing it was the BCM. Didn’t feel like spending the money so all i did was zip-tie the brake lock release down. Car works perfectly fine. Will replace down the line if other electronics start to go bad but so far no issues.
@WyattSmith-pu6jm29 күн бұрын
How did you do that. You talking the break switch near pedal?
@xystumpy18729 күн бұрын
@@WyattSmith-pu6jm No you have to pull up the plastic around the gear selector. You will see the plastic mechanism that when you use the shift lock release switch (pushing down on the piece) it does what the solenoid is suppose to do and allow the shifter to be pulled out of park. All you have to do is zip tie that piece down and it will be permanently locked in place. Only draw back is that the vehicle can now be put into gear even when the car is off but better than spending hundreds of dollars for something that doesn’t impact performance at all.

Hi, is that BCM needs to be reprogramming? Dealer told me is VIN assigned like "married" to the car, so some of the features may not work if you not repr. I know that you said only key fobs were reprogramed but what was the model of that KIA?
@nzdiagnostics20108 ай бұрын
Only programming needed is with the key fobs.

Ah geez, this just started happening with my Sorento - luckily there is the shift lock release socket, but without something to release that every time i drive it will be a pain.
@goodtimejohnny8972 Жыл бұрын
Amen. Sometimes you call the module because you exhaust all OE tests and still find the new module has the same result. The problem has to be in the car but where? Sometimes wires that don't have anything to do with your circuit will indirectly have you chasing your tail. Good luck to all.

Bit of a noob question here...what is the model of the Autel device that use to pair the keys to the BCM?
@nzdiagnostics2010 Жыл бұрын
I only needed to re-learn the key fobs so they would be functional I believe . Vehicle will start but key fobs buttons won't work. Any Autel that allows functional tests should be able to do it.

Does the interlock solenoid need only the brake pressed to activate or does it take brake plus pushing button on the shifter?

What should be the activation voltage at the Shift Lock Solenoid? My Sorento is stuck in park. At the solenoid, it measures 13.16 volts when I depress the brake but the solenoid does nothing. If I ground the the solenoid directly to the chassis, the solenoid engages fine...the voltmeter measures 14.18 volts. Is it the solenoid's coil degraded?
@nzdiagnostics2010 Жыл бұрын
1 side of the solenoid has battery voltage & the other side will get ground with the brake pedal applied. Sounds like you're missing the ground supply.

Currently no recalls or TSB for this concern. 1 thing I failed to mention is the keys need to registered to the new BCM, no other programming required.
