Honestly. Goes to show that assumptions are a tech's biggest enemy. I would have assumed the job was done right for time's sake, but that would have cost me the job. Nice reminder to just take the extra time to be sure (where reasonable)!

Hello young man I live here in Dallas Texas I always find your videos so fascinating because I’ll be honest with you I don’t think I could figure that one out. Well also I’m 60 years old when I was trained many many many years ago things were a lot simpler now engines and everything else that goes underneath the car has gotten to be so complicated you need computers and stuff like that but once again thank you for your video God bless you and your family and all your viewers thank you once again for a fabulous video. ✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸

If a less knowledgeble investigated he would have diagnosed a faulty new high pressure fuel pump the replacement which would not have solved the problem. Top marks to you diagnosing the real cause!
@Farseer19957 ай бұрын
Congratz, fantastic process of doing a proper diagnosis. Thats exactly what separates a mechanic from someone who just throws parts at a repair hoping to fix something along the way. Sure, you could do that, but that'll cost a lot of money. Aint gonna lie, as a mechanic, sometimes I also have to take an educated guess, there are just too many variables involved and way to many deviances between car makes and models but thats NEVER an excuse for not doing a proper diagnosis. Eg for example, practically all petrol engines prumye the fuel pump at the key on. EXCEPT for my 1.8T A6 which fuel relay sends a signal to primes only once it recieves a signal from the crankshaft sensor... I spent 4 days trying to figure thay out... At least it was my own car. Also, just for the record, I never trust anyone who said that they have already replaced parts thenselves. You never know what was the quality of the said parts. I remember fitting a customers camshaft sensor having given in to their reasoning that what they bought was "good enough"... Only afterwards I double checked the product company (as the customer never gave me the original parts box) and it was one of the worst aftermarket makes anyone could buy. Swapped it out for an expensive part and suddenly the ECU could register camshaft rotations properly.

Nice catch by any time you loosen the high pressure pump bolts and the high pressure metal line they all need to be replaced. They are torque to yield bolts and the high pressure line is designed as one time use as well.

I mean nice find but correct me if I'm wrong but I could hear a tapping noise coming from that engine when it was running. Hopefully there is no cam damage without the roller.
@mikechiodetti4482 Жыл бұрын
You gotta know the system in order to diagnose it. Early on in the video I was thinking a slightly worn camshaft, but you have to do the tests like Eric did here. Learned something new about the roller. Do all GDI pumps have the roller like this Kia? I have a 2020 Toyota RAV4 with the A25A FKS engine that has GDI. Does this engine have that roller? Good diagnosis Eric! Thanks for this video.

I still use my snap on vantage pro. It’s compact and and takes care or most of the jobs I need the scope for. I have a 4ch also but the vantage pro is great for jobs like this. I wish snapon would still have updates for it. Sometimes it’s easier to just get the connector view from the scope itself.
