My mom keeps trying this app by this lady who’s popular in israel, but her diet plan is like a 1000 calories! I kept telling her it wouldn’t work and to just eat healthy, but she keeps trying it and falling off the wagon after 2 days, and blaming herself for being weak. Not to be mean, but the lady who has this app and company is on a weight loss journey herself, and she keeps losing weight and then gaining it all back, using her own program. I dont understand how people keep following her advice when she can’t even manage her own weight

I've definitely thought of making a fad diet that is the "mush diet" you can eat anything you want, ANYTHING, but you must put it in a blender first. inspired by when my sister got oral surgery and couldn't eat solid food for like two weeks. The nurse was concerned by her weight loss. It's not magic it's just that a burger that's been through a blender isn't appealing.

That sounds crazy, but this is every egg lover's dream, I think. Wanna make scrambled eggs? BOOM. Blend before cooking! Carnivore-diet-inspired pasta? BOOM. Ground up meat, eggs, and cheese before cooking (or baking if just a meatloaf/casserole.) You'd have many a client! This may have success in other areas, too, but only if someone doesn't mind mushy textures.

because the magazines don't hire fact checkers. social media sites do. who do you think pays the fact checkers? the government? lmao aight so that was sassy because i don't understand how people have lost so much of their critical thinking skills with the advent of the internet but here we go: fact checkers aren't omnipresent entities that exist everywhere on the internet to piss all social media users off. the sites you choose to use are the sites that choose to hire fact checkers. they are independent contractors paid by those websites to do their job on their specific websites, no others. fact checkers are not federal employees. social media websites are not government entities. you can choose not to use websites which employ fact checkers. youtube is one of them. magazines don't hire fact checkers because they curate their own media. social media sites hire moderation staff because their media is generated by their users and could be anything from "drink bleach to lose 5 pounds in a minute" to "donald trump eats babies!" to "call this number and give your social security number to get your FEMA money!" posted thousands of times literally every minute. these websites are frequented by all walks of life, from children to elderly and many others who for some reason may be subject to falling for harmful misinformation or a scam or something else that could harmfully impact their life, well-being, or decisions. thus they require staff to moderate these posts. social media websites have their own federal laws around this for a reason. magazines don't. and yes she looks amazing

Agreed, but I think the point is that these shady magazines shouldn’t be sold in supermarkets, not that the stores that carry them or any other third party has an obligation to fact-check them.
@boopdoop2251
@boopdoop2251 2 жыл бұрын
Who fact checks the “fact checkers” though? How do you have any idea who they are or if they are a trustworthy source of information on Facebook and Twitter? You only know FB and Twitter hired them. That alone should make them untrustworthy after everything those websites, particularly Facebook, have done, like selling the data of its users and showing users negative posts more than positive on purpose. Point only being not to blindly trust anyone! FB is certainly no more trustworthy than a random magazine.

Kiana, I'd just like to tell you that your clear and unambiguous approach to teaching people about healthy weight loss has been a massive help in my life after covid. I put on a bunch of weight over the course of 2020, and in trying to get rid of it initially I became discouraged at the apparent lack of progress, not realizing that what I was doing was essentially running in place. I was only focused on exercise and nothing else, so of course I wasn't losing weight, but at the time I couldn't understand what the problem was. Then I found your channel, and the way you convey stories about your past and the journey you're on to reach your goal really opened my eyes, and helped me recognize that my issue was my diet. Just by eating a bit less and being conscious of my sugar intake (in that I keep it as close to 0 as possible now) I'm down 20lbs in three months, or a little over a pound and a half a week, which I have to keep telling myself is actually a pretty good pace, even though a pound doesn't seem like a lot. I've recently cut out all soda, not just the sugar-laden ones, and I'm making more adjustments to my diet to hopefully push my weight loss to the 2lb/week mark soon. I owe almost all of my motivation to you, and I hope you never stop teaching because I guarantee I'm not the only one you've helped. Thank you so much :]

10:55 as someone with Hashimotos I do feel the need to point out that thyroid disorders can actually affect your metabolism among other things. The symptoms of hypothyroidism include digestion issues, weight gain, fatigue, depression and in severe cases muscle atrophy. Obviously the solution isn't some miracle diet though. It's getting a relatively simple blood test at the doctor's office and then taking medication as per your doctor's direction.

I think it's that people are hoping that they have hypothyroidism and they will be prescribed synthroid and their overweight problems will be ~cured~. When the reality is that people with hypothyroid should probably exercise as well in order to keep their metabolism good. I have a pretty low metabolism though thyroid function is still normal range... because I was inactive af, and the solution is obviously to be active.

Your both right and it's awesome. There are ways to treat and manage both hashimotos and PCOS which was the two biggest disorders/conditions used as an excuse as to why weight loss is impossible by HAES. But today I found out that Gigi Hadid has Hashimotos. It's treated, and while unlike her sister Bella she has not admitted to suffering from Anorexia as far as I know, the girl is a damn supermodel. Who has had a kid. Of course her condition is treated but she and many others as evidence that you guys are totally right and HAES is wrong.

Top-notch work as usual! I, too, used to be utterly convinced that I was a medical anomaly whose metabolism was somehow different from that of most other human beings. I was completely sure that I was eating fewer than 1200 calories a day, and yet my body “just didn’t want” to get below 160 pounds on my 5’1” frame. I was unique. A medical mystery. I actually contemplated explaining this to a doctor and offering my blood for testing. It might help the medical community to be able to study such an anomaly, but what would be the point? I was the only one with this problem, and surely for me there was nothing to be done. Then I started watching “Secret Eaters.” Oh. Oooohhh. Umm, yeah. I weigh 118 now and am very glad I didn’t follow through with patiently explaining my miraculous metabolism to anyone in the medical community.

@@sparkle0859 Yes, that’s exactly what I was doing. I was vastly, vastly underestimating what I was actually consuming. I wasn’t counting cooking oils. I wasn’t counting coffee drinks from Starbucks. I wasn’t weighing or measuring anything, just counting the default “one serving” from the Loseit app. Mind you, that method did take me far. Simple awareness and making the effort-I did lose weight for a while, until the amount I was (actually) eating became my maintenance level. I bought a food scale. That $20 investment did more for my weight loss progress than my gym membership, I tell you what. I started weighing and measuring (the heartbreak of a “serving” of peanut butter…*sob*) and taking care to account for everything-spreads, sauces, oils, butter, drinks, second helpings… It was eye opening. Once I was counting calories accurately, I lost weight readily.

I still track and maintain the habits (that is, the “lifestyle changes”) that got me where I am. When my weight creeps up, I know what to do to get it to trend back down. Obviously my mom wouldn't buy anything like that for me (thank God) so I gradually saved the money for it and snuck to the store on a walk to buy it one day. I was so excited to finally have the answers!! Turns out the answer was to put cayenne on everything... I tried for a couple meals before feeling like I was hopeless and developing an eating disorder two years later 🙃 I hate that they can make such exaggerated claims and gear it towards vulnerable women who don't want to lose their families because of flab

@@skullcrusade3436 I would fully agree once we're in our late teens however when we're kids our parents are the ones who have the money and are therefore the ones who dictate what foods are bought, as well as (in some households) the portions we're meant to consume. Not always but there are cases where even if the child knows all the fast, frozen and fried food their parents give them promotes an unhealthy lifestyle it may be a challenge for the kid to change their parent's ways or to fight against excuses like "We don't have time to cook". Learning to cook for themselves may be an option though the parents still need to buy them the ingredients & allow them access to knife and the stove. In terms of food portions there are kids who say they're full and yet they're told to finish the dish & show gratitude for the food they have. Some kids may be telling the truth tho some may just be making excuses to avoid eating parts they dislike so it can be a hard call. Not all parents are responsible enough to manage proper meals for their kids while it's also not best to place all the responsibility on the child to set their parents' straight on how they should be eating for proper growth. Thankfully if the kid does become aware of an unhealthy diet they can't change then they can still control the amount of physical activity they do in order to try and combat it.

Since January I’ve lost about 40lbs. Patience really is key. I chose not to do an extreme deficit and it was still just as exciting to see the slow progress. 8 months can feel like forever but I didn’t want to to look back and think about all the progress I could’ve made in that time if I hadn’t changed anything. Steady changes make for permanent changes.

Spot on about steady changes, and congratulations on your success. I've also used patience as the key. Some people go cold turkey to lose weight fast, but I chose to wean myself off the offending foods - it was less of a shock to the system. The key factor for success was to get rid of almost all the processed and packaged convenience foods, as well as fast foods. These days I eat a diet high in whole, unprocessed or very minimally processed foods, and have lost over 40 kg (80 lb) over the past year. A rate of 1--2 lb a week is recommended as safe and sustainable, and I split the difference. I never trust any fad diet hucksters who brag about how fast people lose weight on their diet - because very fast weight loss can be dangerous and is almost never permanent. Weight loss is not a competition. It is not a sprint. I've treated it as a marathon, so I have paced it out, and set intermediate goals and milestones. In effect, I chopped this project into "bite sizes" - otherwise it gets too overwhelming. I still need at least another year to reach a healthy target. And my secret for sustainability is a simple "magic pill": real food. Meaning whole, unrefined, unprocessed foods that retain all or most of their nutrients. Eating plenty of fruit, vegs, beans and whole grains is so filling that it's automatically much lower in calories than the typical western diet. And it's put an end to the old cravings and addictions. Using a nutrition app has also helped to keep me focused. I used it initially to track down where all the excess fat and sodium came from in my old diet, and to see which vitamins and minerals I was missing out on. That was why I ended up ditching most processed foods - the data showed just how nutritionally depleted most processed foods really are. Those foods are almost always high in salt and/or fat and/or sugar, all of which are damaging to health when used in excess. I have cut my salt intake to a quarter of the previous level, and added sugar is 1/10 the old amount. I've also halved my previous fat intake. So the weight has been dropping off easily without the need to obsess over calorie counting. And phasing out the old foods slowly gave the taste buds a chance to adjust to minimal sugar and salt. So, there's the keys to success: not a magic pill, not speedy crash diets, not fads or gimmicks - just eating whole, real foods and taking a patient, sustainable approach. It's about getting real - and realistic.

My mom sometimes buys Women’s World and I browse it at times, such as if I need a bathroom read. It is amusing yet dumb how they highlight these fad diets and also these decadent desserts at the same time. Some of the other tidbits they highlight on the cover are also brow raising (sometimes at work I take a peek just to see what they’re talking about). The little bits of positivity aren’t bad though and I like reading my horoscope sometimes.

Is it dumb...or purposeful? I'm sure they know that the diet "tips" they are giving are garbage, but they are ensuring people fall off the wagon and gain any weight they lose back by simultaneously promoting extremely tempting and calorically dense foods...so that those people have to get more "tips" from Women's World. Okay, taking off my tin foil hat now haha, but seriously, I feel like they *have* to know what they're doing.

In some strange way, isn’t this type of dieting…entertainment, or like a hobby for some people? It’s almost like gambling, wondering if the next trick or detox is gonna work or not. That’s why magazines like this can stay in business. If they had the cure, they’d only need to sell it once.

Your point is quite interesting, I think this element also works for other very grey stuffs out there. For example the MLMs’ get-rich-quick schemes, is it illegal? Not according to the law, but does it ruin life? Yes and many people know, but some will still buy into it, because it promises “a better life” that can fix your body/bank account/life.

Imo it's deeper than that for this type of woman. They belong to a culture where every choice they make for themselves that could be relevant is made through the lens of thinness as the pinnacle.
