I know from experience that in order for your organs to detox your body sufficiently, you need to have good nutrition including adequate daily water intake along with fruits and vegetables. Taking certain medications can complicate things. I don't entirely agree with people when they say that just because you have a liver and kidneys your body will adequately detoxify; you need to treat your body right so that it is better able to clean itself.

@IAmPlaysWithSquirrel3 жыл бұрын
I have a terrible canker sore on my gum right now and I’m also relegated to smoothies for the time being because it literally hurts too much to chew. I miss eating real food so much, my low pain tolerance is why I’m not saying “fuck it” and making myself a proper meal to eat. I’m constantly thinking about food. I don’t know how anyone could restrict themselves like this when it’s not medically necessary. Also, it’s not at all healthy to lose so much weight in such a short period of time (unless you’re extremely obese). If you’re literally losing 1lb a day, go to the ER right away because something is horribly wrong with you. We really need to stop promoting rapid weight loss as something healthy to aspire to. This is horrifying. I used to be an RN (technically still have my license) before chronic illness made me unable to work 1 year and a half ago. It burns me up that a nurse who has the responsibility to see to the health of her patients and who has the trust of so many makes a mockery of our profession and causes harm to others with unfounded claims. Evidence-based practice gets hammered into your head in nursing school. There are no excuses. And to take advantage of those who are looking at death from or a life with chronic illness… that is beyond sick. I do wonder what her actual license is. When I worked in nursing homes myself or when my hospital patients had family members who worked in health care, people with a CNA license would be referred to as a “nurse”. I would almost rather believe that this nurse is someone who went through a nursing assistant program (which is not nearly as in depth… I was a CNA before my RN) and is mislabeling herself and thinks she knows more than she does. It is more disturbing to think that she is someone who went through an actual nursing program and has all the training to know that this is unsafe bull. Sorry for the rant. I find it so painful that a nurse would be this irresponsible and betray those who trust our profession so much… especially targeting such a vulnerable population.

The sad thing is that there's so much information out there. If people did their own research they would see that junk food alters brain chemistry, and that if they ate foods with nutrients (vegetables and protein) they would be able to fix a lot of their body issues. Limiting sugar, increasing nutrient intake and moving your body is the best way to get healthy.

That Martha's Vineyard retreat was giving me Starvation Heights vibes. That was a "health retreat" up in Washington that put patients on a diet of vegetable broth and a regime of daily enemas until many of them died. The "clean living" trend is and has always been deeply terrifying.

It’s insane to me the amount of people that just push the idea of a liquid based diet as a “detox” or “clean eating” as thought you’re not just putting sugar, salt and water into your body. Simplicity does not inherently translate into good nutrition and never has.

Clean is not the problem, clean literally just means making your own food in traditional ways instead of pre-made with industrial chemicals. Clean cake, clean pizza, clean chocolate, clean potato snacks, clean bread, are all what everyone ate exclusively until ultra processed in was invented in the 1900s.
@harlanhardway59554 сағат бұрын
@@compulsiverambler1352 what does "clean chocolate" mean? All of the foods you mentioned are highly processed. This isn't a bad thing. Have you ever made flour from wheat? Do you consider tofu "clean"? Have you ever made that from soybeans? These are all foods that require processing. I don't understand what makes one food "clean" and one food not clean. There is a term "ultra-processed-food" that I'm pretty sure has a standard meaning, but that doesn't mean the food is bad for you. So no, I do not understand what a "clean pizza" is. Do you not eat pasteurized cheese?
@compulsiverambler13523 сағат бұрын
@harlanhardway5955 Look up the NOVA classification system. There is a scientific definition of ultra processed that is pages long of scientific jargon. A summary rule of thumb is that a processing method or chemical ingredient did not exist before the 1900s, it probably meets that long scientific definition of ultra processed. The clean chocolate I make, for example, is made by heating and stirring pure coconut milk powder, cacao butter and cacao powder, with honey for sweetness. The powderisation was a mechanical process, perfectly fine, not a chemical process invented in the 1900s. Minimally processed food is anything made in methods and containing only chemicals that were used before the 1900s obesity epidemics. Minimally processed food like my clean chocolate and my clean pizza is using only ingredients that humans also had access to in domestic kitchens before the 1900s, i.e. existed before the obesity, diabetes, depression and dementia epidemics of the 1900s onwards that follow ultra processed food around the world perfectly when you follow the timeline of when these epidemics happen in different places. Minimally processed is traditional processing methods. Ultra Processed food is now recognised by the WHO, Harvard, Oxford and entire governments as the real cause of the +1900s epidemics. Don't eat anything that wasn't made in ways that yout ancestors would have made it before the 1900s. It is an easy rule.
@compulsiverambler13523 сағат бұрын
@@harlanhardway5955 No, real pizza and chocolate existed before the 1900s, they are only minimally processed. Fake lazy mass produced chocolate and pizza are full of industrially created chemicals not bought by people for cooking or baking in your domestic kitchens or found in food at all before the 1900s. Traditional processed methods have been proven to be fine for your health. WHO, Harvard, Oxford, unbiased governments all agree. Chemical additions invented in the 1900s are what make something ultra processed. This is established academic consensus now. Depression, cancer, dementia, diabetes and obesity epidemics of the 1900s are officially caused by ultra processed food. Cook and bake exactly what people cooked and baked before the 1900s, with only ingredients they would have used, and you can't possibly accidentally make something ultra processed.

You have to die and reincarnate first but those are all valid effects of being reborn and having a new body (so no pain and new eyes) and a keen interest in developing new skills like walking, talking, eating healthier to avoid that debacle of a diet.

I seen a lot of quack diets when I was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis at 18. My mom read every book and tried every diet that claimed to "cure" MS. MS has only really been studied in the last 25 years and many medications have bad side effects and low success rates (30-40% on first line drugs). The second line drugs also had horrible side effects and/ or high price tags (60-100K per dose). My mom even made me go to a seminar about how one person put her MS in remission through strict diet and electrotherapy alone, without prescribed medication. I was the youngest person at the seminar and most of the people there were disabled from their MS and in wheelchairs. Vulnerable people that were clinging onto any chance at getting an independent life back from their debilitating disease. At the end, I did loose some weight from the diets but my MS remained the same. Even with being on multiple medications from my neurologist, my MRI's remained bad with multiple new lesions. My MS only got under control when I took part in a trial medication, where I went from 9-14 new and active lesions on my MRI's every 6 months to 0. Since I've been on the trial study it has been approved by healthcare but still has a high price tag for anyone without good insurance (120K for 2 doses a year). While taking care of you physical and mental health is important and does help your body when dealing with chronic illness and disease, it is not a cure. Good health and healthy habits are a helping component alongside proper medications that have been clinically tested and studied.

Actual medical specialist exams are a whole other ballgame and take a significantly more intensive time commitment, and take place over many years after their medical school training has been completed.
