Kibler Woodsrunner Assembly Video Part 2. You can't ask for anything better!

Jim works on the Kibler Woodsrunner Kit in real time. In this video he shows how to install the patch box lid including the patch box lid spring, the nose cap, and the front and rear sight. He also shows a couple of tips for getting the barrel and lock out of the wood stock easily.
Not the best filming but it's what we have right now.

Just started to work on my woodrunner kit. Great job once again Jim. So far I just had a couple of small problems I had to tap the lock plate and remove some wood from the recess area in the lock..I guess Lori is gone. I spoke to Bree she said Jim is to busy to chat with customers. The CNC machining is fantastic you would be getting a quality rifle that’s an easy build!!😀

My .54 Woodsrunner arrived today, so says USPS tracking! Now just got to get through the rest of the workday to get home! My Colonial was a wonderful project and this one, with so little need of fitting, will allow me more time for some carving. Yet another fantastic product from Mr. Kibler!

Just spent a number of hours working on the patch box brass end piece, it has been especially challenging. I hope mine looks decent. Still got some filing and fitting to do. Being from the lower Shendoah Valley the Woodsrunner is a real home run:)

My kit arrived Friday, so far, only about 8 hours of filing / sanding etc on trigger, trigger plate, around the lock, barrel, barrel tang, around the sideplate, removing smidges of wood from those areas.. just discovered a few holes that don't line up precisely (nosecap / wood forend).

Nose cap holes are intentionally offset such that when screws are tightened, the cap is drawn tightly to the proper position.

Yup, they're a bit "diagonal" so the right side one goes in, the holes of the cap and foreend are about a 1/16 not lined up, just killed the threads of the screw and cap trying to get the left sid e in. Right side went in just fine. Might have to get another cap and screw later, for now, the one screw will have to work

On the trigger plate, there some "odd and end" casting bits on the inside I filed out so the trigger could fit in it, and I widened the hole in the trigger to get the pin through (and that was a tricky job lining that up, like you said earlier)

I’m right at this stage of the build, it’s all together. The trigger pull is pretty stiff and lots of slop in the trigger when cocked. Not sure how to correct this without messing up the geometry of the lock. Could use some tips.

Stop the presses. We have a new bench vise, workbench, and moveable stock rest. Did you film this in a different location in your shop, or did you replace the older ones?

It's a different location in the shop where another employee works to get stocks ready to ship at the same time that Jim is on the other bench. It was cleaner so we filmed there.

Would it be advisable to sand and finish (darken) the end cap before installing it? That way you wouldn’t have to worry about getting brass darkener on the wood? Or is that completely unnecessary because repeated muzzle blasts would render all of that moot?

Rub it with a dirty patch, it'll darken over time. Otherwise you should probably darken it beforehand.

@@kiblerjim I can probably survive without it. 🙂 I received my kit this afternoon, and it's already assembled (can't really say 'built"). I'll take it back apart to start polishing and sanding tomorrow... I never touched a chisel, a knife or a file. I did have to cut the ramrod to length of course, and sand it down until it fit the pipes smoothly, and there might be a tiny gap between the barrel and the bolster. I'll look at that. I'm seriously impressed, Jim. My congratulations and thanks to you and everyone in your shop, for turning out such an incredible product.

Not sure if this will get answered here but going to try. Your “ email “ on your sight comes back as error 404. A year or so ago I thought I understood you may have a hawken rifle kit in the works, in about a year. Is there any truth to it ? If not can you order one of your rifle kits in 54 cal ( colo requirement) with OUT a patch box or “ trim plate” on the opposite side of the lock ( forgot the name of it) ?
