regarding the "daddy" stuff from Mindy, I mean it makes sense. She loved him very dearly and losing him in such a traumatic way, I can see her still psychologically doing that. That wasn't in the comics and they didn't need to add it in the film. I kind of agree with this creator because the film was kind of unnecessarily limiting itself and could have been so much better. Ok to explain, Jeff Wadlow for some weird reason felt the need to put in the part where Red Mist's actually cool looking costume was thrown away, and replace it with the cringiest fit in existence. They didn't need to do that. This film was very disappointing.

I'd love to see Kick-Ass remade as a TV series that more faithfully adapts the comics. It may not have the budget of a movie, but the fight scenes could be awesome with the right people behind them. Ex- The choreographers from Netflix's Daredevil. It could also ideally avoid some of the censors that can creatively limit adaptations in film. Meaning, it could push boundaries more. This isn't the kind of comic you can go halfway in on in terms of the mature material. Either go all the way or not at all. Make it too light-hearted, and it loses that necessary grittiness which was literally part of the overarching theme behind the ENTIRE story down to its core concept: People trying to be superheroes in the real world and experiencing realistic consequences. Make it too dark though, and the themes get bogged down in what comes off as an overly brooding, depressing, gratuitous gore-fest that even Zack Snyder or Christopher Nolan would roll their eyes at. Neither extreme is ideal for adapting the source material. People often criticize the comic for being too "edgy" (one of the most overused criticisms toward mature storytelling, to the point that it rings virtually empty now), but the fact is that THAT'S what a realistic superhero story set in our world would be like. It would be bloody, it would be ugly, there would be a lot of swearing and people would get hurt in ways that can make us uncomfortable as the conflict escalates (including heinous acts like child murder & rape). That's part of why the comic worked. It wasn't a story that coddled its audience's sensibilities or tried to be entertaining in the conventional sense for the genre. It treated readers like adults and didn't shy away from the harsh reality that bad people can do some seriously messed up things. Those disturbing moments and over-the-top violence/cruelty were supposed to make you uncomfortable. That was intentional and necessary to how the story used its sensationalism to critique the absurdity of superheroes & villains in the real world. If it held back on that for the sake of being less offensive, that would fundamentally take something away from the impact of the story's commentary: Chiefly, referring to the chaos that comes from blurring fantasy with reality past the point of no return. Once you cross that line, it changes you forever. The comic conveys that as scary and disturbing because THAT'S what it's supposed to be. Every main character has their own unique moment to experience this, each under very different circumstances. For Chris, it's when he assaults Katie, transitioning from an almost sympathetic spoiled wannabe douche who merely surrounded himself with dangerous people into a true irredeemable villain (the way he'd tried to portray himself up until then). For Dave, it's when he murders Chris. For Mindy, it's when her dad is killed and she loses that warped child-like innocence of perceiving superhero life as fun (Her dad raised her to perceive it back then like a game). This is the genius of Kick-Ass. It takes a concept rooted in fiction and satires it to unapologetically brutal extents (physically and emotionally) while simultaneously building a compelling coming-of-age story with a surprising amount of nuance beneath its over-the-top surface. The biggest core problem with both the movies (though much more so this sequel) is that they were limited by the medium of film in ways which pressured them to tone down the darker elements in favor of upping the superficial sensationalism. This made it more accessible to general audiences for an R-rated action-comedy, but at the cost of diluting the comic's more substantive material for fear of being too controversial. A new adaptation would first have to learn from where the films fell short. Secondly, it must be helmed by people who aren't creatively restrained from embracing the darker story elements. Finally, it would have to follow through on those aspects and push further than the movies did. That's the only way to do the comic full justice.

Always hated how Jim Carrey was killed off early, and was hardly in it, which the ads mislead. Never got how the dad got killed in prison so easily and how those two guys got in so easily as well. Wished we got a 3rd film, but was scrapped due to this film nor being as high of a hit.

While I do agree with most of your points here and do think that the sequel is incredibly dumb, I'm gonna have to say one thing. Christopher Mintz-Plasse's acting was incredibly childish and stupid, and that's the point. Chris D'Amico is supposed to be this immature and whiny wannabe supervillain. Nobody takes him seriously and neither should the audience. I think that Chris's overly cheesy and stupid dialogue was intentional on the script writers part because it hits home to what kind of character Chris D'Amico is.

Something I feel like this movie ignores is the cycle of revenge. Chris' dad killed Hit girls dad, kick-ass killed Chris' dad as part of a revenge plot, Chris tries to kill kick-ass to get revenge. There's no way that Chris is the only one who died in that final battle , and no way their loved ones wouldn't what revenge...but they don't acknowledge it.

Considering how recent some of the comments on this video are, I'm assuming KZbin have randomly started pushing this video to people again and I'm one of those people. But I was surprised to see so many dislikes on the video considering it's pretty solid throughout. Sometimes people can't accept that something they like is flawed. I loved the first movie and I still enjoyed myself watching this as a teenager when it came out, but rewatching it last year really opened my eyes to how lackluster it is. Speaking of, it's a shame to see you haven't got much more content like this on your channel. It certainly feels disappointing when you put hours of work into a video and it doesn't perform too well, but I hope that doesn't stop you from making more videos like this
