Kicking Horse Pass - Canadian Pacific's Laggan subdivision

In the next part of my travels around Western Canada, I spent 2 days between Field and Banff, combining trackside & tourist events. Traffic was fairly consistent all day long. Plenty of scenes GE locomotives hard at work, battling the grades. One for the speakers to be turned up!

In 2005 my wife and i went on the Rocky Mountaineer gold service, from Vancouver all the way, overnight at Kamloops , what a fantastic ride and something that will live in my memories forever, nice video Tony from England UK

I've never been to these exotic railway places. But at the same time I can say that I've been there... HOW? Thru my TRAIN SIMULATOR... which has reproduced these routes with amazing accuracy. Sitting here in India, I've thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment of the simming as much as I would love to see and experience those places in reality. Thank U Simulator

I'm ~Proud~ to say my pet BIGFOOT is getting her "Train Engineer's" License! If you look closely, you can see the big smile on her face as she drives by. In two weeks she will graduate and has a job driving passenger trains daily to NY. I'm glad the three train crashes she caused last month didn't interfere will her getting the job. -Bill Howes.

West seems to have more passenger trains than we do on eastern side. We do have some train lines here and there but not tourism trains.

At about 6:30 CP has what's known as the "Sprint" train to pay homage to the late great Milwaukee Road, only they're in Canada instead of Montana, Idaho and Washington.

there was a big train derailment today (Feb 4/19) on the CP line on the bridge just below the lower Spiral tunnels. 3 dead, locomotive and 30 - 40 cars are in the Kicking Horse river. Newspaper reports say that the train was travelling at about twice the speed limit when it left the tracks. very sad news. :(

The name comes from an early explorer in 1858 who was belted full power by a horse near this pass. He named a lot of things in this region.

It is NOT possible to own property in Canada's National Parks where most of this was filmed, in Banff & Jasper Park townsites or Field Village in Yoho Park housing is strictly controlled and open only to essential services. Outside of the Parks, in some places like the town of Golden houses are reasonable, in Canmore and Revelstoke they are expensive. Tourism and Escapism can drive up prices, but in a remote place like the village of Valemount on the CN Rail line 150 km west of Jasper, house prices are still low.
