On the overdrive subject, I inherited my 1947 Chevy 3100 truck when my dad passed away 1979. I was 11 years old, and it's on it's third small block chevy since I got it. He built it with a turbo 400 and a 3 speed brownie, 9 forward gears and 3 reverse gears. One shifter does everything, You twist the shifter for the automatic transmission and the shifter swings front to rear for lo medium and high range. So many memories in that old truck, like finding it surrounded by police one day after school. The superintendent found out I was driving it to school and narked me out to the police. I was 13.

Born n raised on east coast.. Weep hole. Live in NY Weep hole. Yes antifreeze + dog = bad. Wait til you are like me.. Pour a cup of coffee.. set it down and it becomes invisible. You look right past it trying to find it and it NEVER seems to materialize until the coffee is cold. Never used a bucket. We always squeezed the upper hose and bounced on the bumper to "Burp" a motor.

Yes Clay in the north us dam yankee's call in a weep hole too. that film in/on the pump is the anti-corrosion /corrosion inhibitor. When i was on a team bracket racing, I was the p-glide and TH400 person and there's no magic to rebuild them just experience, so you made the right call taking it to TCI. I put a gearvender overdrive in my older motor home. It did make it possible to split the gears for climbing hills and not lugging the engine down or having it screaming in a lower gear. And the literature i got from gearvenders web site said many drag racers have used them to split the gears when racing. Looking forward to seeing you stomp on that loud pedal at Bristol soon.

I call them carrier bearings. I've heard of them as swing as well but not as common. I also call the hole a weep hole in the water pump.

Definitely carrier bearing pee hole and the light was hanging on the hood 😂!!! I always wanted a garage with a wet area to clean the vehicles in the winter!! I was wondering if the coolant filled okay I’ve seen where they take the air out of the system and refill it so there’s no air bubble at the top of the motor!??? When I saw the snow on IG I thought how great Donna was for getting those mats for keeping the walkway snow free ,she’s amazing for that!!!

Weep holes and carrier bearings in SD. Hanger bearing is also used a lot. Enjoy the winter weather! We have exactly zero snow in Sioux Falls today, but started out at a balmy -10° You are correct tho, we are always prepared for whatever mother nature throws our way this time of year. I have one of those coolant fill funnels, and used it for years...until I got a vacuum fill setup. Now I won't fill a cooling system with anything but the vacuum. My favorite part is that it allows you to do a leak test before actually filling with coolant. Definitely saves a mess occasionally! Wrench on Clay, see you in Brainerd.

Hi clay Happy New Year! Trick for your house water pipes wont freeze before when it gets freezing open your faucet let the faucet little stream or water dripping your pipes will not freeze as long as the water from the faucet is dripping or trickling your pipes will not freeze.😊

OK Clay in Minnesota as well as Washington state it is a weep hole so you’re good to go there number two carrier bearing is correct. I’ve never heard it called a swing bearing but that’s OK and what you’re referring to from vice group garage is the ‘craigslist rebuild’.

I use a gear vendors in my dodge diesil and yes they were big originally in motorhomes to split gears to help with hills also towing you can turn you towhaul mode on and you loose od but can run the gv on highway and gain it back but not hurt transmission to keep your gas mileage

Don’t loose those shims on the coupler of that gearvendor. I tried to put one on my 70 prostreet Camaro but I couldn’t get it high enough to get the proper drive shaft angle without doing surgery on the stock floor pan tunnel. So I put a 3.90 gear from 4.86 in it. New drive shaft made because I cut the original one down for the GV od. Went from manual steering to power steering and that has been a fitment nightmare on that big ol 582 motor. Working on exhaust now and probably power steering again.

Here in OK we also say weep hole and carrier bearing. Being an auto tech myself I will say that for a two piece driveshaft you technically have a ‘center support bearing’.

Weep hole, I've known it as that since I was a kid, my dad taught me that, he was an engineer. purpose is to give you a warning sign before it destroys both bearings. I want a gear vendors in my truck, being able to split the gears in a NV4500 would be nice, especially the 2/3 shift, and being able to tow w/ OD.

clay some times the front cover get eaten up and it will leek between the gasket and water pump. the fix is a new front cover This happens all the time with miles on engines.

Have you not heard of BATTERY TENDER? Get one for all your vehicles that sit, they have a small waterproof one that is awesome, use the permanent quick disconnect and it takes seconds and always a fully charged battery.
