A good boxer will get past this tactic because he is not just going to stand in one place like an idiot, even IF you can get close enough. Boxers can take a lot of pain, but if they feel pain, they are not going to just stand there and do nothing while you work your "magic". They are either going to be moving out of the way, or they will accept your challenge and fire off a volley of hard-hitting punches until you fall or until they fall. But don't expect them to be just standing right in front of you while they are throwing punches at you. They also are going to be moving from different angles and they will try to circle around you while his volley of punches are going right at you. Have you ever heard of a side step? Boxers LOVE using this tactic. If you don't know what this tactic is, I suggest that you youtube it. It's a great tactic to master. When I first started boxing (I was in martial arts from age 10 to age 19...I started boxing at 14 and stopped at age 34), I used to spar boxers who knew this tactic, and it worked really well on me. One moment they were there, the next moment they were just gone, but I was still getting hit while I was punching at air. :p I was like, "Where the Hell did they go?" My martial arts training did NOT prepare me for this. It took me about a year (maybe less) to where I could be right on them when a boxer sidestepped me. Plus, boxers know your tactic, already. You know, punch the opponent's inside shoulder or collar bone? The problem is that the other opponent usually does not stop punching if you hit him on the inside of his shoulder or ANYWHERE. He is still going to be moving and firing off a volley of punches at the same time....or he'll grab you and show you what REAL dirty boxing is. You may not believe me, but there are A LOT of dirty moves that boxers know that is REAL hard for the refs to see. These dirty moves are a martial arts style in itself. And the one very thing that a "good" boxer CAN do is take a LOT of punishment. Don't think that a punch to his shoulder or arm is just going to make him stand there like an idiot so that you can work your magic on him. ;) And this is not really dirty boxing. Dirty boxing is mainly holding your opponent and then letting go to fire off a couple of shots and then grabbing him before he can fire back and then letting go to fire off some more shots..and so on and so on...Plus, if you can hit him with a few elbows and a head butt, that's a bonus...Dirty boxing is roughhousing your opponent as much as the ref (or your coach at the gym) will allow..Of course, your opponent will try to do the same back to you or try to use his "dancing skills" and punching skills so that you cannot get close to grab him. So, whoever is the best at his own tactic.....However, some see "dirty boxing" as a cheap way of fighting that IS looked down upon by many fans, boxers, and coaches...With that being said, there are also many fans who think the opposite and love this tactic.
