Loved this game growing up and just beat it again last week. Killed me you didn't realize if you shoot all the bags then hit the last bag you get a bigger treasure (credit card, barrel, etc).

I remember getting the layout of the treasure rooms and what order they were supposed to be shot in from there. I think it was the issue with Mike Tyson on the front.

Here's a good hack for most situations with Grim Reapers: while it patrols a given ledge, many times it would stoop over the edge. You can keep shooting up on the Reaper from a ledge below, and it would not be able to summon its minions.

Had this on OG GameBoy when I was maybe 9 or 10. I had to use the GemBoy Game Genie to beat it but it sort of corrupted my game save where I had a glitched health bar so I could beat it without it afterwards 😂

When you are in the mystery pot bonus room, if you get all but the god of poverty's pot, then the last pot has a bonus like a credit card, feather, or barrel.

Reminds me of the 1-Up pipe rooms in Super Mario World. Hit the blocks in the right order to get a 1-Up, but if you get _all_ of them right, you get an extra 3 lives.

Edit 2: OK goddamn it... After seeing parts of the second stage look a hell of a lot like the first stage in the Gameboy game.. I've come to the conclusion that the Gameboy version wasn't really a true full blown sequel, but more of a 1.5, or a "kid icarus the directors cut". Lol it's gameplay is very similar, and some parts of some levels seem to be reused. Basic mechanics exactly the same. But in the Gameboy version you can backtrack in pretty much all directions. Still, play it please. It's different enough to make it worthwhile. Also, they did a remake of the original for the 3DS called 3d Classics: Kid Icarus... It's just the NES version but with really cool updated graphics, nice looking scrolling backgrounds, updated(better) controls, just a general overhaul that makes it more fun to play. That one is also worth a look.. (I'm not talking about the full blown 3D sequel, Uprising.. Not a huge fan of that one. But the sidescrolling remaster of this game, which also came out on the 3DS around the same time as uprising.) To reiterate, so nobody ends up searching for roms of the wrong game "3d classics: Kid Icarus" , NOT "kid icarus uprising" lol I know my comment us long, and rambling, so I wanted to make that part as clear as possible. Edit: (After noticing the game was similar but different to what I remember, I looked it up and found the Gameboy version "kid icarus of myths and monsters" was actually a sequel. Gonna have to beat that one now on the channel if you haven't yet so I can see what the MF ending looks like. Lol I was so close to finally seeing the ending, and it turns out to be a slightly different game.) Huh. I had this game on Gameboy as a kid and never even thought there was a NES version. Game drove me nuts as a kid, cause it was really difficult especially in the back seat of a car moving at highway speed. Lol.

just a heads up, although you may have known it, in the room of vases, if you uncover all but the little reaper, the vase he is in turns into a random power up ( credit card, Keg etc...)

Terror horror it gives you the Green Arrow and bring it to the last stage,. 8 followed but all lower case U will bring it to the last level but with the first arrow and unlimited health for that stage

The eggplant wizard’s curse was gamebreaking for me. I remember being a kid and shutting off the game anytime I got turned into a eggplant. It’s should not have been a permanent effect that lasts until you find a doctor to remove it.

Kid Icarus...a strange game to me. It was popular and sold well (probably?) in its day considering that the main character made it into the Captain N animated show as a regular character but compared to his teammates (Simon Belmont and Mega Man), it never spawned a multi-game franchise (besides this one, there is only a Game Boy and a Nintendo 3DS game, right?). Also another game to update your Games I've Beaten On Stream list along with Shatterhand, Tokkyu Shirei Solbrain and Friday The 13th.

@@mikematei for the first 3 months of having a Nintendo, I had this and SMB. Kid Icarus was the first game I ever beat. I also wanted to add that if you master the mystery pot rooms, go ahead and shoot the last pot for a bonus item. There is a credit card in this game that allows you to purchase any one thing and pay it back afterwards and the mystery pot rooms are the only way to get it.

I love how this is about an angel thrown into the deepest depths of hell and everything God is trying to do to keep him there fails. From desperation he even sends wildlife to take him out at some point. This game is literally you playing as Satan.

Jeebus that dragon boss... 200 health and you take off 4 per hit, while having to dodge hin and platform jump without falling in the lava... That's pretty harsh. Thank fuck he doesn't have multiple player seeking attacks and bullet hell projectile patterns that come out of the wall or some shit. That would be Ninja Gaiden tier. You did not by any stretch of the imagination beat Kid Icarus if you spent a bunch of time farming at the beginning of the game. You farmed so much health that making mistakes no longer matters.

it killed me after you got the pattern right in the first room and skipped the final pot, LOL. lost all those points and no reward. I see you obviously trying to get the pattern, you had 0 mallets = 7 GoP which you got (from guides), sucks that's it's just something you are supposed to know, like that damn lost woods in the first Zelda game.
