Play was a clothes designer so yeah that explains why he's ahead. Another explanation being that played used to be in the streets, in the Underworld, as a stick-up kid. Rappers always model their Fashion After Street guys, because they had the money, could afford all the foreign clothes, and we're always years ahead of everybody else. Run-dmc's attire was modeled after drug dealers, but that style was in effect, years before they ever used it.
