We flew to Indianapolis in ‘93 to see Nigel in the Indy 500, we saw him with his family in the driver roped off area and shouted for an autograph, as soon as he heard our accents he told his ppl to let us in and sat with us asking where we’re from, took photos with us and signed everything we asked him…..totally star struck as a youngster we were all blown away and he made our trip. What a guy !!

Great guy Nigel. I was fishing on one of his lakes near his golf course back in the late 90's, and he came along and helped me land a big carp I had been fighting with for a while. It was such an experience to catch such a nice fish, and have Nigel Mansell to help me land it. I sat there stunned and speechless for about an hour after my heart rate came down again. Thanks Nigel 😀

I’ve been a Mansell fan for decades, personally witnessing so many of the events you discussed here. However I’ve never really seen an interview which I felt did him justice - until now. You absolutely nailed it, showing the true emotional family man behind the phenomenal driver that Mansell was. Many other drivers had a succession of trophy wives, Nige restricted himself to a succession of trophies! Possibly the only driver who was a match for Senna. What a legend he is, and what a great interview you gave us. xx ps the Brazilian driver whose name neither of you could remember - Rubens Barrichello

I absolutely agree. Not only is this the most revealing interview with NM ever, it’s done with a great deal of affection & sincerity. Kudos, Jodie. And bloody hell, I knew he was determined & tough, but some of the tales of racing when most of us wouldn’t have been standing at all made me wince. The tragic deaths were horrible, and to lose people you liked very much yet to continue is impossible to fully appreciate, at least not by me. The number of times Nigel drove races & near-impossible manoeuvres meant fans always willed him on, knowing that, if his car was competitive, he would take some beating. Skill, courage, determination, will to win. It’s wonderful to see him looking content & I hope not in too much physical discomfort after several potentially career- if not life-ending injuries. The harsh realities are that we never fully heal & many mended injuries leave marks which hurt, frankly. He’s earned his well-loved status as a retired lion!

Again, Thank You, Nigel Mansell was one of my very favourite drivers, his life and mine seemed on a similar 'Ying & Yang' pattern, as while he was repeatedly taking the second step of the world championship of the podium, my own passion for car racing was crowned as I was selected in Paris, to become a leading contender in reformulating octanes in gasoline as the lead phase-down was being enforced. The year I got the Patent for it, is the year Nigel finally got the crown. I'll never forget it!

I really enjoyed that interview. I learned some things that I didn't know about Nigel's career. Nigel's was a hero and an inspiration to many people. Such a shame he walked away from F1 after winning the Title, having had to wait so long to win it,but equally what an achievement to win the 1993 Indycar Series.

Thank you very much for this interview. This is my hero. One could endlessly admire Senna's talent, Prost's prudence, Fangio's historical monumentality and Clark's charming and speed. But the most charismatic and spectacular for me has always been Mansell. This is a racer who has always given incredible intensity and an incredible level of fight. And of course, his entire being could not accommodate as many championship titles as he potentially could have.

Watching him battle with the legendary Ayrton Senna in 1991 and just missing out on the title but then came back and dominated in 1992 with that epic Williams FW14B. This was a great interview, Nigel got me hooked on F1 and motorsport in general in 1985 when he first drove for Williams (I was 12). He's been my sporting hero every since, was lucky to see him go by at Goodwood. Legend of the sport, and far better than his 1 title suggests, he's up there with the Senna imo. Only bad luck, and arguing with Frank prevented him from achieving more. So thanks for this

A little story for you, really enjoyed this interview, what a legend. Many years ago circa 93 ish, my italian boss acquired a Testarossa from a dealership in Wiltshire. He stated it was formerly owned by Nigel. On his way back from the dealership the day he collected it he was clocked at over 100mph and banned for a month from driving. The car sat in our company HQ and our boss gave us the incentive to perform by saying the most productive employee that month would get the Testarossa for the weekend. I won and had the car for the weekend at 20 years old! I've always wondered if indeed it was owned by Nigel.

Thank you Jodie for bringing the best out of Nigel. When you think you know a fair bit from watching and supporting every race you actually know sweet FA. My brother and friends swarmed onto the track at Brands Hatch for Nigel's first win. It only feels like last week. Great Memories Thank You

Nigel 'il Leone' Mansell was absolutely one of the best back in the day, up there with Prost & Senna. A great interview, which allowed Nigel to recollect his amazing career, without the interviewer interrupting all the time - well done to Jodie Kidd for facilitating properly 🙂

You could feel and see the Love you have for our Nigel Mansell. Such a down to earth Champion. How lucky for us to see this brilliant interview. I would love to meet our Nigel I'm just slightly younger than him but I've watched every race he's ever been in and I just wish we could turn back time and do it all again in this new era of cars. And show these young Guns how it's done. Thank you for this wonderful insight Jodie xx

You’re incredible Nigel. We raced the Enza Indy light car at Phoenix in 1993 and well remember when you had that dreadful backward crash through the concrete wall where your hass cars gearbox made a huge hole, you are a lion with the courage to match. And still smiling. Wonderful interview both of you. God bless you Nigel and you also Jodie you both were so terrific❤

Thank you for such a fantastic interview, just incredible. It was personal and Nigel is such a wonderful person. He was very popular here in Adelaide. He would have won in 1992 if Ayrton had not smashed into him coming into the hairpin on pit straight. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Absolutely stunning interview. Learned so many new things about Nigel. Luv the respect you showed him. Thanks Jodie. (The other driver you and Nigel where trying to remember of that awful weekend in Imola 1994 is Rubens Barrichello he drove for the Jordan team at that time)

@@hughmccarry4950 Thanks for the reply Hugh. De Cesaris also drove for Jordan in that race (stood in for Eddie Irvine while he was suspended), but it was Barrichello who had the other big crash just before the pits entrance in qualifying.

Glad I found this channel. Interviewing my hero. Been losing my side to all my life, until now I’ve got not a lot. But lucky for me. I’ve call Charles Bonnie syndrome.. Which is one of the side-effects from losing your site. It puts images into my mind and all my heroes I can see to you as I used to see him. And Nigel and Art and Singer and Alan Prost are some of my images, lucky for me.

Why is this channel only having 70k subs, craziness. This is amazing stuff that people need to watch. From the first time I met the lovely lady JK at Goodwood, she was so kind to give up time on her day out I’ve loved all the thing she does. She’s a fantastic lady and role model to bust down those barriers to show girls can drive cars to! More need to be in pro driving. Good luck with everything you do. Luv ya Jodie 👍

I met Nigel and his wife PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) in Arizona, I believe 1994. Really amazing, we'd just moved the Phoenix and a friend mentioned he knew the mnager at PIR and I said I'd live to meet Nigel, next thing some tickets arrive and I'm told to be at Practice at the Track at a certain time. Thinking, no way is this going to happen, I'm there and blow me Nigel gets out of the Racing Car, hops over the barrier and is guided to meet me, we spoke for some time. It was simply a magical moment I'll always remember for ever. His Wife is just a lovely person.

Having followed Williams from 1977 and their inception at Didcot and my very first job letter that I posted out after leaving school was to WGPE in June 1978, the period of Keke and Nigel as the FW10 was improved is one of the most wonderful times - I met Nigel a few times but at the Tribute to Williams day at Brands Hatch at the end of 1986 there was a lot of fun when Nigel and Patrick Head raced Ford XR3's -not a straight panel to be seen at the end. What followed over the next years were perhaps the best days of F1 I have seen - a great interview Jodie and also brought back lots of experiences I had with F1 30+ years ago.

Watching this on a cold winters day here in Melbourne. Absolutely enjoyed every minute of this interview. Love he’s grit and determination. Refreshing for a change to hear a driver talk fondly of teammates. Always considered him the tough man of formula one racing. The Charles Bronson if you like of motor racing. Thanks you an enjoyable hour listening to this great driver.
