its actually pretty normal for a child that old to ask a lot of questions, and its normal for them to ask something they dont understand, thats why these things are important because it gives opportunity to adults to influence kids in right way.

Woodpecker That's a good question! Corticosteroids are sometimes used to treat muscular dystrophy (MD), to prolong muscle mass and strength. Unfortunately, MD is a genetic disease, so there is no cure and the negative side effects of continuous steroid treatment will eventually outweigh any benefits. People with MD have mutations in the genes that make muscle fiber proteins and their bodies cannot produce "strong" muscle tissue as they grow. You usually notice symptoms around the age that toddlers learn to walk. My cousin had MD (a much more severe form than Ahmem) and passed away at the age of 20 yrs. His legacy encouraged me to become a geneticist and contribute to our understanding of the genetic basis of human disease. There are a few research labs that are having modest success with stem cell based gene therapy of MD patient cells transplanted into mice with MD (they take cells from MD patients, fix the mutated gene, transplant these fixed cells into mice with MD, and noticed the mice have improved muscle structure and mobility). I hope to see a feasible, FDA approved cure within my lifetime.

post more of this kind of video; it educates children about many things such as disabilities which wont make them feel scared or awkward whenever they see people like the guy with muscle dystrophy. I wonder what kind of muscular dystrophy he has? I have limb girdle muscular dystrophy type 2b. And i went through a lot of struggle in the 17 years that ive had it, coping, dating, falling alot, getting stuck, etc.. Ive had a lot of lows but also found things that make me happy. I always hoped for a cure and still do but the main thing is finding something that you love to do and focus on that otherwise your mind can run rampant with negativity. Know what i mean? I used to be scared of dying alone and never finding love. These days i have a beautiful girlfriend and we are completely in love with one another, also we have two amazing children. My little baby boy thinks his dad is the coolest and loves to climb up to sit on my lap in my wheelchair so i can read to him or play on the ipad together. Im really happy that im still here for this as ive been through dark times. Somebody needs to write about how to cope with muscular dystrophy for those who are having trouble and show that there is light on the other end or that tunnel. I liked this video it was great stuff and its always inspiring to me to see other in similar situations that are doing great and pursuing their dreams. Live and love to the best of your ability, everything is going to be fine, try your best to push the negativity out of your life and you will be happier for it. Everyones different so find what works for you and never stop trying.

This makes me really happy. My brother, Stewart, has congenital muscular dystrophy. He was supposed to be stillborn, but to all the doctor's surprise he came out kicking. Now, he's 24 and thriving, and loves disney movies. With his type of muscular dystrophy, not only does it cause him trouble with things like walking or talking, it also halted his development of brain growth at about 8 years old. He's a great person to be around and is friends with everyone he meets. He's been on TV and in fundraisers, and he loves being able to help share his story. Videos like these are just spreading the word and helping the process of making a cure for people like my brother and Amin.

So so glad to see MD be on top of discussions. I have Fasciocapulohermal MD and I have always been embarrased to talk about it, especially after my friends would ask why do I smile this cerytin way, or why this why that how come. It's a sensitive topic to me, and I never felt "normal" b/c of it so Ive almost always been a loner + Im also very judgmental on myself- I care too much how others may think of me. Until now I am gaining the confidence I needed in all my 20 years of life & I am accepting that it's not as bad as I made it seem when I was in school.

My grandfather and nana have muscular dystrophy as well and I'm so proud to see all the people like my grandfather and him who have this disease and don't let it deter them from living the life they want to live. Thank you for this video, I don't think many people really understand this disease who don't personally know someone with it.

OMG... my favorite one.....I wish this video could have been longer. I have Muscular Dystrophy and there are 40 neurological MDs. I believe this gentleman has SMA .... the same as myself and my brother. My brother passed at 42,never walked. I can still walk “very”short distances. These young children are so very lucky to meet so many wonderful individuals and experience many wonderful things!
