Hi, sorry to hear that. Are you talking about Udemy or Discord? The Udemy course is no longer accessible but the Discord should be fine. I’m not sure what’s happened there.

Very strange, must be some kind of problem on Discord’s end. It’s usually quite a reliable platform. There’s nothing set up on my server that would take that action against your account. I’m sorry I don’t know what to suggest!

At 2:19 Writing flash fiction and micro fiction "teaches you to identify what really matters about your story and also how to communicate that to your reader as clearly and concisely as you can. That is a skill that you can take across all fiction." For me, Kieren, this is the 🥇guidance.

I'm part Native American and I recently tried to write a 50 word microfiction piece in my ancestors' language. I'm not a writer, and I only know a little bit of the language, so it was hard.
@KierenWestwoodWriting2 жыл бұрын
50 words sounds really tough, I've never tried that, the lowest I've gone is these 100 words. I very much admire the ability to write in another language though!

@@KierenWestwoodWriting Honestly, the story probably isn't that good, but I enjoyed writing it. I hope to write longer pieces of fiction as I progress in the language.

I am glad to see that you also use random word generators. I have used it in the past for a short story, but never got to finish it. Furthermore, I have used Tarot Cards as well, and came up with a nice story, but again just left it at the draft state. Story generators are also a great source of ideas. Thanks for sharing your video!

@@KierenWestwoodWriting I have a short attention span, I don’t like reading full novels, since I don’t have the time. These micro fiction is the best thing for me! Easier to write and edit.
@KierenWestwoodWriting3 жыл бұрын
@@Joseph.S.Roberts I can definitely see how that would work, I feel that way myself sometimes. Also with writing them, if you're looking to write a much longer piece of work, you can always create a collection of stories, that way you can take each one as it comes, while still building to something much longer and a potential book of them.

I don't to be honest! I tend to read random pieces here and there, mostly online. Laura's book (mentioned in the video) would be number 1 though! If you're happy to expand it a little to flash fiction, I'd recommend Michael Loveday's work too.

What is the difference between micro fiction, flash fiction and a short story
@KierenWestwoodWriting3 жыл бұрын
Basically just length, but there is no offical, universal definitions. Micro fiction is around 100 words or less (sometimes up to 300). Flash fiction tends to then be between 300 and 1000, and short stories can be from 1000 word right up to just under novella length. The difference in length brings with it different approaches on how they're written, but that's a lot more difficult to define, I think.

I know! It was a grave error for which I've paid dearly, am still paying in fact. A lesson was learned. Yeah, one word by itself will rarely give me an idea, but combinations of words just seem to work. It's been fun writing them, and I figure I can just throw one up whenever I feel like it on the second channel as a kind of creative outlet :D
