The sphere grid looks far more overwhelming than it actually is. It's a shame it was designed that way. It looks like some wild maze full of decisions and options, but if you look ahead of your current position, you'll see that every character (except Kimahri I think) has a pretty obvious straight path for a long time - branches in the grid where you have to decide where to go aren't actually that often at all. And when you reach a branch and make your decision, it will just be straight path again for quite a while. The expert grid actually is a wild maze though, but thankfully you didn't choose that XD

For your first turn-based RPG, I wholeheartedly think you picked the best one. Good luck in your journey and never give up. The ending is absolutely worth it. And if you love the game the end game content is the best the series has to offer

I don't know if you picked that up during the Sending scene but Lulu drops an important piece of knowledge in her explanation. She says "If these souls remain in Spira, they will become fiends that prey on the living." This means every single monster (fiend) you kill in random battles was once a person who died and wasn't Sent.

You can shorten the summoning animation in the Main menu -> Config. It will still show the long animation for the first time summoning, but after that it's shortened and you can change it back to the long versions anytime. Also even though the information might be simple, it can still be overwhelming because you want to do the battles right, so don't worry when you pick a "wrong" move, we have all been there 😅 The many times I accidentally healed a monster by using its own elemental

I watched an interview with the creator a long time ago. They said Tidus's character design represents the sun and Yuna represents the moon. I think that makes sense because, in a way, Tidus's hair kind of looks like the sun and his character is a bit wild, while Yuna is more calm.

All will be revealed in time. There are times in this game where you’ll probably have to grind for levels to progress, but you’ll figure out when those times are when you’re struggling with a boss fight that you have a strategy sorted out.

No need to apologize about figuring out the temple puzzles and such. FF games tend to reward things like that well so it's definitely worth your time. Also the viewers aren't going to be bothered by it at all. The more difficult the puzzle, the more shared trauma everyone has in chat. ;)

A quick tip, you can set the summonings to be quicker (it does get old for some of them as you try to level up). Love this playthrough, I was just wandering around looking at some FFX stuff the other day and saw you had JUST started this. Woo! Also, a tip (no spoilers, just giving the name of an area and what to search for online): You'll also be able to procure some equipment that disables random encounters. It'll take a while before you get there but look it up once you reach The Calm Lands (I won't say anything spoiler, it's just the name of an area worth remembering) in case you want to acquire the ability to choose when you want to do random battles!

my first J RPG was Final Fantasy 9, ive played all of them but 13-14-15-16.... the more beautiful and full of fun and mechanics are "9, 10, 12" Final Fantasy 9 is a master piece as much as final fantasy 10, final fantasy 12 has a lot of stuff to do the game is really big and this make much more fun, its really fun to watch a cute pie playing this game! have fun girl! saudações Brasileiras.

Fun fact: Tidus was among his voice actors first performances back in the day. The VA James Arnold Taylor is best known for Ratchet from the Ratchet and Clank series and Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars: The Clone Wars so if he sounds familiar to you, that's most likely why. Considering the quality for voice acting in gaming at the time, this game has aged incredibly well on that front given the talent involved. This game is a masterpiece for a variety of reasons with the combat, amazing moments like the sending scene, and voice acting being among them, plus it's the best when it comes to introducing others to turn-based combat. There's a lot to uncover with the layers of this narrative in the best ways.

i know you said it might be hard to play any ffs without voice acting but hopefully you will reconsider at some point. In my personal opinion the best of the series came before they added voice acting, especially original ff7. I like ff10, but I dont love it so hoping you do play some of the others eventually, either way great playthrough so far 😊

im a psychopath when it comes to grinding in RPGs, every time i do a FFX playthrough i farm this boss fight on the way to Kilika with the never ending sin spawns until Tidus gets his final overdrive and everyone gets slayer unlocked (and healer for yuna)

Same. Grinding hard early at a spot that requires very little brain power is my way of putting the game in "easy mode" so that way I can focus on the story. Two good spots to do that in this game in Zanarkand when Tidus and Auron are cutting through sin spawns and on the boat to Kilika. Just mute the game audio, have something else on on a separate monitor and grind away. In Zanarkand I grind until I get Tidus 2nd OD and Slayer for Auron and Tidus. On the boat, I grind until I get slayer for the whole squad and Tidus' 3rd OD. Once the the boat lands in Kilika the squad is pretty beefy for a while 😁

If you are playing on a TV, put it in "Game Mode" or whatever it's equivalent is. I noticed I missed often with Tidus's Overdrive when I didn't, yet got it every time when I did.

If you want to get one of optional Aeon you have to get all hidden chest using Destruction Sphere. And you missed one in Besaid Temple, the first trial.

always check the characters hp when in 50% use healing spells or potions later in game enemy monsters and bosses have ways to kill characters even in 50% health and ruins your game if you didn't save

If I remember correctly, characters don't actually have to take any actions in battle to get EXP. They just need to be in the battle at anytime. I would always just switch characters out at the beginning of battle and then everyone gets EXP.

They do have to take at least one action, but this can be just Defend (Triangle/Y).

I won't say which one, but one of the places you do a Destruction Sphere puzzle, you only have *one* chance to do it. Leave too soon and you can never go back. Ever. I hope it's okay to say that, because it's due to bad game design logic more than anything else, and no way a player COULD know it.
