Well done StarMedia, another of your excellent series ! The production values especially costumes, locations, extras etc are very high. To a Western European like me it is very strange to see a series in which the hero is an officer of the NKVD State Security. We have been educated to believe that Beria`s NKVD was the Russian equivalent of Muller`s Gestapo. That said, this is a first-rate thriller so thanks again.

Well, that Beria`s NKVD was the Russian equivalent of Himmler`s Gestapo* was an assertion of Stalin himself. At the time of the Soviet-German treaty (Aug. 1939), Stalin introduced Beria to a German official as "my Himmler". And the NKVD cooperated with the Gestapo, for instance against Polish opponents or when the USSR "gave back" Jews who had fled from Nazi Germany to the Gestapo. This movie depicts NKVD officers who do their best to serve their country, in a system which was utterly perverse (see Beria's attempts to "liquidate" Berezhnoy; and to kill Hess "immediately", because an interrogation of Hess would reveal some things about Beria…) I agree with you that this is another excellent series of StarMedia ! Greetings from Paris. * [who was "Muller"?]
@fridomfrymj56256 жыл бұрын
Well, Beria`s NKVD was indeed the Soviet equivalent of Muller`s Gestapo. Actually they helped each other before June 1941 (in the joint invasion of Poland, and in other circumstances). And in the movie, officers such as Bereznhoy cleary suffer from the paranoia and terror emanating from Beria and Stalin. It is impressive to see Russian filmmakers facing the tragic past of their country with such lucidity. This series is a masterwork.

ur serious? No man he doesn't look like Joe Pesci. However I CAN SEE...the slight resemblance now that you mention it. But it's not strong. I would never have noticed myself. VOLKOV looks like Stallone tho!

I expected both more classic blue-topped Chekist caps, and Bob Hopkins as Khrushchev to come in roar at everyone about the ‘ vozd’ ( boss ), a term he, ironically , popularized.

The bad captain is carrying two revolvers, each holding six rounds, in the first confrontation he fires 12 shot, then keepsing firing more and more rounds after that without reloading! Bad continuity. Otherwise this is a good show.

Right, and it is also doubtful that the Red Army or NKVD had US-made Jeeps as soon as 1941. But what are these technical details, compared with the merits of this superb, taking, clever movie ?

No way. Subtitle is a separate text file. There are even separate text subtitle libraries without video for different films. There is a long way - to record directly from the screen in real time along with subtitles. There are many such programs. For example, Faststone

Upon leaving an underling holds his salute while turning away. Is this a holdover from Tsarist Russia or something new the Bolshies introduced to further accentuate the required fealty of lower ranks?

Western people of your type are so stupid that they have no idea that GULAG is an abbreviation. And if a Westerner can decipher and explain the meaning of this abbreviation, you can enroll such a child prodigy in a higher educational institution without exams
