I would really love to see more mismatched weapon sparing. Most videos out there show fights between people with identical weapons, ie longsword vs longsword, sword and buckler vs sword and buckler, etc. It would be interesting to see longsword vs sword and buckler, rapier vs messer, or other things like that.

Haha, just great, man. Great job mixing Historical Fencing with the Witcher's universe. They are entangled from design, as humans fight according to the principles of historical fencing. Just add more weapons vs longsword episodes -> how those weapons could defeat one armed with a longsword also how a longsword could circumnavigate certain disadvantages in such a fight. As in longsword vs pole weapon (spear or halberd), longsword vs saber, longsword vs sword and shield (not the buckler). Presenting historical techniques and also common sense approaches, even if they are not documented, you, being pretty much a swordmaster, alongside other polish fencers can deduct some good approaches (some are found in manuals/manuscripts for other weapons etc.) to certain situations (and present them as such, possibilities). Good luck! Looking forward to your next videos!

Superhuman strenght and speed and reflexes have one weekness against humans though, numbers If you take 30men at once firing crossbows from multiple angles and not just at the position he is at but also the positions he could move to he is kinda fucked since he cant dodge, as such small alleys are your friend combined with numbers Unless youre stupid enough to throw them at him 2 at once, at which point he can fight them paired after each other xd

Ok, let's face it, if the witcher does not see that move, he probably has another trick up his sleeve, and if not that, he will pull whirl on you, and he always has one last resort which is why witchers always win: Signs. And he might even use a bloody crossbow. And Witchers deliver strong blows. Or, even better he does not attack you first, which would mean that he is going to quickly move to your rear so that you can't block. Yeah, 0 chance of winning. Unless the witcher is a newbie. Then you have a chance.

It’s a really great video but what I noticed with realism vs Witcher videos they forget that their super human. Such things like cutting through armor , that hurricane of death move,and now defeating a Witcher without being blown away or burnt to a crisp is just wishful thinking. I won't deny that these techniques can be useful. However, I don't think that they are fool proof. For instance, with the grabbing technique, while I do know that one can grab a sharp sword without injury, it becomes dangerous if the opposing blade is in motion (not to mention, it can be difficult to stop it). The guy with the longsword also kept stopping without giving a struggle (if I was him, if one grabbed my sword, I'd try to wriggle my weapon out, wrestle, kick my opponent, etc.). And this is assuming that the longswordsman gets into these situations. He/she could feint before launching a different, unexpected attack. Again, while I wouldn't call these techniques useless, I wouldn't call them perfectly reliable.

I have some questions in regards to swordplay. When it comes down to just fighting with a sword, how can a wielder of a smaller blade defeat one with a longer one? And for your proposed counters with a sword and buckler, are there counters to those counters (like, how can one who is still wielding one sword beat the sword and buckler techniques)?

@@miles1362 Interesting. Now when you say "beats", do you mean by batting/hitting away the opposing blade as one closes the distance? And just for the fun of it, can this same kind of strategy be used for a hypothetical scenario of a 1v1 between a swordsman and a spearman (again, I know that a spearman has a range advantage and that most times, the spearman would win. But I am curious as to how a swordsman can overcome his/her weakness if he/she knows of a strategy)? Come to think of it, with people using different strategies against each other, I like to think of it similar to batting vs pitching. Both sides can beat one another but they are using different strategies and rules. It's a matter of one knowing what to do and if they are good enough to execute it well.

@@miles1362 I do feel there is a way to get around certain weaknesses. I believe that the main reason why most people struggle against longer weapons is because throughout history and perhaps even today, most people were used to fighting with similar weapons and whenever one uses a longer one, the other side either copies it or tries to use something bigger instead of using what they have and use techniques/strategies to overcome their weakness. This may sound weird to you, but one reason why I feel this way is that I have developed a personal skill of mine that addresses many issues that people had with a certain method. Believe it or not, I have been able to not only draw a sword from a scabbard mounted on the back (as in how you see it in media such as Zelda and the Witcher), but even made it smooth and easy to handle as well as address multiple issues that people had with it. I won't go into those details as it is a long story but it did give me a feeling that people can practice with something and get around (or at least minimize) certain disadvantages.

one small problem with this theory... Witchers are faster than ordinary humans due to mutations... while here, you have human on human ... If enemy is a lot faster, these things might not work... witcher would anticipate what human is doing and act on it accordingly... in books, its mentioned Witchers could easily predict what humans would do, so it was like they were at least several seconds ahead in reaction time..

Well, game has similar enemy - shield infantry. Bad news for humans that witchers still have their magic tricks to deal with better equipped foes. And discounting analytical capablities of such superseasoned (few human lifespans of experience anyone?) fighters isn't really reasonable, you might as well suggest using spears while witcher's riding horseback at you. it's kinda legit move but will such opponent let that obviously disadvantageous situation to happen? Thats just a canon of game itself, where you don't progress unless you outplay your opponents and you have to because you're damn overpowered mutant.

Only one little problem: Witchers have supernaturally boosted senses and reflexes. Unless you do too, you'll lose to the lightning quick strikes of the Witcher's blade - not even accounting for the use of magical signs. So, nice try, but nah. Against a pretend Witcher on the other hand...!

Yeah it's pretty obvious from the books that a very skilled human could take on a Witcher and win. Although Bonhart got killed by not even a full grown Ciri so... Also using signs in the books took considerable time/energy compared to how easy Geralt can spam them in game. Probably for gameplay purposes. At the end of the day Witchers trained primarily to kill monsters not humans.
