Steering brace is the way to go. I chased front end issues on my 2nd and 3rd gen for a long time, I even have a thuren stage 3 front end on my 3rd gen. Steering brace fixed all wobble and steering play in both of them.

I just did rear brakes in the wife’s car. Over 100k miles in the odo. Changed both calipers because after I did the fronts, one of the calipers got sticky and I had to replace them. Sucked. If I were into a front end like you have done, I’d swap out both front calipers too. At over 60k miles in a HD truck, they see a lot of vibration and the pistons might be suspect. Changing everything else like you did is good smart insurance 👍 and you don’t wanna go back in there and take something apart when you just did all that. Carli is great stuff. Good video!

Tom check your track bar bolt holes where they mount on the frame and axle sometimes they get oblong from death wobble and can have play if not I suggest some grade 8 bolts with solid shank and enough thread for the nuts that’s more solid ( big ol bushing ) vid on u tube explains check it out . There is endless info on this wobble shtuff . IV had it and still can’t say it’s cured after endless wrenching and $$. Might as well check the race truck front end cause if that wobble happens on the track that would SUCK. Thanks fer the vids.

I also have a '12. I have never experienced a death wobble, however I have over 100K miles and have been eyeing those carli ball joints for a while. Only reason I have not bought them yet is because they are so darn expensive. However, they should be the last ball joints you ever replace on the truck.

The Carli balls won't last. Go with EMF or the dynatrac. Carli also doesn't warranty the ball joints if they don't want to. They are good at making excuses that the bad joint is your fault.

Are you going to do a front axle truss?
@arikharrelson60095 жыл бұрын
The next time you do brakes you should get zinc coated brake rotors so they won't rest until after winter and even after winter the rust isn't going to be too bad it's just going to be surface rust and you won't have all that Rust falling out on the floor of your garage and it would be easier to get off also do not Warp that easy.

Hey Tom iv Beene watching the channel for a while now and I also got a 2012 that had death wobble really bad! Like bad bad haha, if nothing else works for you get an alignment, sounds dumb but after putting almost 3k into my front end the last resort was alignment and that’s what solved my issue. (Truck had 77k on it when this happened, 92k now with no issues since)

I changed out all the front end parts by myself, what a pain! New U Joints, sensor, Rancho level springs, adjustable track bars, Fox 2.0 shocks, adjust sway bar end links, and ball joints. I now have to replace the bearings (didn't have the funds at the time), the originals actually lasted to 240k miles though, but now have play like what you showed. When going over bumps it's def getting a jarring impact and the wobble at 50 mph.... Some advice, don't use Rancho coil/shock 2.5" level kit, NOT worth it. I should have done like you and used quality parts! Alsol use the right over sized ball joint kit, not the "standard" one you can rent from Orielly's. I spent most of my time trying to get them in/out than any other part of the rebuild. Moog has adjustable ball joints, the standard Moogs changed my angles and the tech had a hard time aligning one side. Lesson learned..... If your bearings are fine, you can actually remove the sensor from the body and grease it from the sensor's hole. Amazing how the new/factory bearings have little grease in them!

@TurbaTom3 жыл бұрын
Yes, doing this and the track bar solved the problem. If your ball joints seem good try just the track bar first. Also your tires can add to death wobble too
@mysticridgedesign98574 жыл бұрын
While most of these parts you are replacing are worn out and loose, it does not address the cause. These front axles need a manual locking hub installed that will stop the extra wear on the system and save ball joint track bars steering box etc . But good video

I thought that was crazy too. It is a solid axle so a lot different than GMC as far and angles and stuff I think. I just did mine on a 2014 Ram 2500 at 215,000 needed axle Ujoint so did both of those too. I have no idea why his are bad already other than maybe bigger wheels and tires. I would rather have a GMC too.
