Its really.. Demoralizing... How many people are happy the author is dead. As if they commited an atrocity by depicting violence in a fictional work. Many people really believe that engaging with taboo material in fiction is somehow as bad as actually wanting to commit crimes. Syd even explained as a fan of this manga why someone might want to see something this sadistic. REAL violence is despicable and not to be condoned. But fiction gives us an ethical and practical venue in which to explore facets of the human condition that we rightfully avoid or rarely experience IRL. Instead of being harmful, violence can then be sobering, demonstrating and contemplating the human capacity for cruelty without SUBJECTING anyone to said cruelty. It can be evocative of some of the sharpest emotions fiction can pull out of us by showing us the worst the world can offer without adding to that misfortune. This is what art and stories are for. He made drawings. He isnt over the line between fantasy and a reality with consequences. His critics are claiming he wished suffering on others but THEY are the ones celebrating the death of a human being they'd never known for making taboo artwork. No like seriously, what the actual fuck people?

Now the author unfortunately passed away due to his health complication early last year... but it was honestly a good manga. It very well illustrates the morality of human nature when pitted against their own survival instincts and forms a deep analysis on how far a person is willing to go, to cheat and lie in order to save their own lives, even at the expense of others. Think of it as a successor to lord of the flies. It was a very gripping read and an introspective topic to think about and I owe my thanks to this author for providing me with this sort of material. That being said, I find it disgusting that people are applauding his passing like he deserved to die. He was a fiction writer not a murderer. He didn’t deserve to fucking die. Fuck your “Thank god he died”, he didn’t deserve anything close to death so keep your jests to yourself. Just because someone wrote something outside of your tastes doesn’t mean they do not deserve to live as by your standards, just because you can’t separate fiction from reality. Writing about cruelty in fiction and actually inflicting it are separate things.

After I saw this I did end up buying the whole series and it's a real shame it has to end. There were easily another 6 volumes left but since it's manga I'd guess 10. Knowing that what I had was all there ever was going to be and that it would end abruptly at some point did cause me to try to savor it more, even though I read it all in less than 24 hours. I really liked the art. It seemed lovingly crafted and his experience really showed in the quality. Quite an example of the ups and downs of a senior creator.
