Yes! I have reached the appropriate level of reading the description, and immediately thinking, "Beat Angel Escalayer?" Seriously though, it is actually a well designed game. Really hard to get good endings on the first few playthroughs. (It even has roguelike elements, where you unlock skills that stay with you between playthroughs!) I strongly recommend playing without Save Scumming.

Shenanigans ensue that lead him to topple corrupt governments, break horrible curses, and defeat super demons who are normally supposed to be literally invincible. This all takes place in a silly world where the RPG mechanics are just out there and a thing its residents are aware of and can see. Nobody thinks twice about having skills or leveling up; their world is a big game engine created for the entertainment of a godlike being with an ill sense of humor. Rance is Alicesoft's flagship IP and has been around and going so long it technically predates The Simpsons, Rance 1 released a few months earlier; if any of these descriptors sound familiar to you from things like Goblin Slayer or a lot of the modern isekai novels and stuff, I would dare say Rance did it first and is the inspiration/basis for them. The series is made up of dungeon crawlers, strategy games, and even a goofier dice and roulette styled game. The world is very fleshed out over the series and it's full of colorful characters; Rance himself is a parody of the traditional selfless and chaste fantasy RPG heroes of the late 80s, designed as their polar opposite. He's selfish and motivated entirely by his libido, but serendipitously does a lot of good things in spite of himself.
