The ball striking from Davenport is simply remarkable. The sound it makes when she hits the ball is so crisp and clean. Clijsters her movement is very special. The splits and sliding makes it very hard to win a point against her. She can also attack. This era is so much better than the era we're currently in. Now you have ballbashers and pushers and Barty.

The problem with this era is that most of top 10 are just not very good. They are players you would've seen in top 20-30 even just a few years ago. Back in this era the top players were legit great players, many hall of famers, etc. That's not the case right now and won't be unless players like Gauff, Raducanu, Andreescu, Rybakina get their act together and become more consistent to join Swiatek at the top. Swiatek is the only top player acting like a top player these days!

@@user-gu1un7pb7k You need to look for hope from the bigger hitters like Ostenpenko, Konjuh(when healthy), Sabalenka, Collins etc. I do believe Gauf and Stevens can be dominant but they have to win more and stay healthy.

People are crazy when they don't mention Lindsay in conversations about the all time greats. I believe the conversation should be who would win if we had them on their best day?

@@Dancingontgesun1942 Ostapenko is just too erratic, especially in the mental department, Sabalenka the same (even though she has better attitude). Add Muguruza to that list as well. Collins to me is someone who has actually overachieved, I don't see her go any further. Gauff obviously has her entire future ahead, but will need to work on her overall gameplan, I don't think she already knows exactly which kind of player she is. Stevens is a missed opportunity. If she truly had the love for tennis, and the commitment to be a top player, she would have done so much more. I'm afraid Anisimova is also going to be someone to add to that list, she loves the tennis lifestyle, mainly off the court.

When Clijsters came back in 09, I remember Lindsay was very supportive and said Kim could become number one again and win Slams...she certainly wasn't lying.

Davenport was on fire from the 2nd set of the QF until 4-0 in this match, 22 straight games. Kim was able to weather the storm though

Kim still 1 of my fave female strikers of the ball, such a fluid motion especially on the backhand. Remarkable athlete whose respect for the game kept her focused, poised and humble. Dearly missed! ❤ 👏 ❤ Well deserved win🎉🎉🎉

Mental fortitude and movement would've made Davenport an untouchable player however she did really well for herself.

@@daniolitheone Athletically, hands down Clijsters was better. However, I feel for this match Davenport had many opportunities to win.

@@davidforrest5246 Athletically and strategically. Davenport resorted to her power to defeat her opponents, as always. Yet once Kim got used to her ball speed (remember Clijsters had been out for many months due to injury) the match was done for Lindsay. Kim moved Davenport from one corner to the other and also showcased she could hit the ball just as hard.

She cracked mentally. That seemed to be the story throughout 2005. She got up 4-0, with break chances for 5-0, and lost control of the match. She should have beaten Serena in the AO final, but got negative after losing her serve from 40-0 up, and proceeded to lose the final 9 games. And against Venus at Wimbledon, served for the match in the second set, led 4-1 in the final set, and had championship point on Venus' serve at 5-4. She just couldn't close the deal in the crunch time.

So many matches in 2005 that Davenport lost when she should have won. This match, the Wimbledon final, the USO QF... I could go on.

Something about davenport where she would play well but could never really convert and close out at the most crucial moments. She should have had 7or more slams. 2005 is that year she also lost to venus at wimbledon.
