Upon birth the average American makes a claim on 20 barrels of oil per year every year of their life. In other words we're burning the oil intended for those yet to be born. The 20 barrels does not include high use individuals whose usage can be 100x over average. Hydrocarbon molecules are raw material for thousands of products. There's no substitute that can be scaled. Burning hydrocarbon molecules for transportation and electricity when there's viable alternatives is a crime against future humanity.
