Why did dude try and kill john after the sister job? Easy. He wanted his sister dead so as to gain a seat of power, but that whole job was to be a secret because if everyone knew he had his sister killed his reputation would suffer. So in order to keep the secret he had to try and avenge his sister. Made perfect sense to me.
@urielfernandez43664 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, Charon is pronounced KHA-ron. He's named after Charon, the ferryman of Hades, who carries the souls of the dead across the River Styx. The dead would have to give him a coin for his services. The same goes for JW's Charon, when John gives him a gold coin in order to use the services of the Continental. Awesome!

I don’t think John killed Santino for the reasons Nick is saying. He’s literally going to be UNTOUCHABLE if he gets to the high table. We’re talking about a guy who’s willing to kill his own sister to grab power. He is without morals or scruples. John knows if he lets him live it could ruin everything in their society.
@laughwithmarc4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. His sister even just outright says what's going to happen with Santino and I think that resonated with John.
@Lauren-zx3gx4 жыл бұрын
They 100% ignored the dialogue in that scene, and its meant to explain why he makes the decision that he does at the end.

Idk like his sister was on the high table and still killable, and there’s no possible way that Santino being on the high table is worse for John Wick than being excommunicated. TBH it doesn’t make sense, that being said, I didn’t have a problem with it. It was unearned but I don’t really care 🤷🏻♂️

On rewatching John Wick 2 after playing Hades, I realized that Lance Reddick's character is named Charon. That's the name of the ferryman of who carries souls to the underworld and takes payment in coins. This absolutely blew my mind.

John Wick 3 is coming. I think your ranking of the John Wick movies depends on how you feel about three different things. 1. Story. 2. World Building. 3. Action i think John Wick One goes: Action, World Building, Story John Wick Two: World Building, Action, Story John Wick Three: Action, Story, World Building the issue is that we would also have to assign points to each one to really measure the differences so like.. John Wick One: Action 8/10, World Building: 9/10, Story 7/10. Story is overly simple but effective. John Wick Two: World Building: 10/10, Action 9/10, Story 7/10. I think the story is sloppy but the world building is God Tier. John Wick Three: Action 10/10, Story 9/10, World Building 7/10. Three makes the decision to just leap frog from the impressive world building of Two and just GET IN THE FUCKING ACTION. Wooooo boy the action. I think the Story is fantastic in three as well. Again i maybe all the way wrong with this.

The reason he doesn't name the dog is to prevent any sort of attachment to another being and the inevitable hurt that will cause him. The repeated dialogues asking him what the dog's name is reinforce that aspect of the character and the fact that he has nothing left to live for. D'Antonio took everything from him, anything that rooted him in a normal life when he destroyed his house. After that, everything John can be is the boogeyman and that's why he kills D'Antonio on continental grounds because he knows he can't escape this life anymore and every assassin in the world hunting him wouldn't really be any different than what his life has become already. Great review guys keep it up!

I'm not sure if you ever get any clarity on this, as I'm only half an hour in, but the character of Lance Reddick is Charon, pronounced like Care-on. In greek mythology Charon was the boatman who ferried souls to the underworld. They had to pay him in coins, like the movie. There's actually a great video done by Movies with Mikey that shows all the connections between John Wick and Greek mythology. You should check it out!

Definitely. I feel like 3 took the best parts of 1 & 2 but that left two without the over the top action crown (JW3) or the most resonating story (JW1). 2 arguably has the best of the world building

John Wick 2 quietly is the lynchpin to the whole series probably going forward. The World building and relationships here helped separate it enough from 1 & built a space for 3 to do more. It's like the Anti-Iron Man 2.

John doesn’t have a name for the dog yet because, the last dog was killed so quickly he never got a chance to connect with it yet. So to name this one, John is worried it may be a waste of time, considering how much turmoil he’s currently in.

There's nothing particularly off about the John Wick bounty. You can't just kill a member of the High Table. There are consequences. John hoped that when bad guy became a part of the High Table, he would run interference as a way of settling their debt once and for all. Bad guy decides not to do that... sorta. He puts the hit on John as punishment for killing a member of the High Table, but he limits it to NYC. This way, he sorta makes good on settling things with John. Afterall, John can leave now, free and clear. He can leave the world of assassins and go and do whatever he wants for the rest of his life-- so long as he stays out of NYC. More importantly, by making NYC off-limits it makes it harder for John to try and get revenge. John decides not to go for the deal, and goes back and kills him. Killing a second member of the High Table is the reason the bounty is increased and taken international. Now, important to understand, the High Table and the Continental are separate groups. One does not control the other. They have worked out a specific relationship, but the Continental rules apply no matter who put the bounty on you-- even the High Table. So, John could have technically gone and stayed in the Continental and been safe from the High Table... except for the fact that in killing the bad guy on Continental grounds, he broke Continental rules as well. This gets him excommunicated from the Continental, which also carries a sentence of death, only adding to the hit already on him from the High Table.

I always thought the order was like 1 2 3, or 2 1 3. 3 was a little too nebulous and some of the canine scenes felt like they lasted an eternity. That being said, I think 1 & 2 are pretty much equal in quality, and three is probably a step behind.
