I know it’s a personal taste but I feel like you don’t need a “likeable” character to have a good character, Scott has a good arc I feel, that being said no way Zac Efron nails the line delivery like Michael Cera, and as far as the movie goes (and all of Edgar Wright’s films) the movie just oozes style and is not lazy when it comes to the technical execution and the script

I fully respect Greg having his own opinion on movies, it’s one of the reasons why I love KF but I also realized that he tends to let his dislike of the movie affect his plot reviews. I had a similar issue when he recapped Lego Batman, if he doesn’t fully gel with a movie he will skip over parts of the film that other people would probably like to point out and discuss. It’s a weird energy to the videos that I wish they would address as a group before going into an episode.

I am happy to hear such a range of opinions on this movie and different aspects of it being discussed critically, but like the Lego Batman In Review I again find Greg’s disdain for a film affecting the plot synopsis. He steamrolls through plot and jokes and gives little (if any) room for people to interject or make their own points. It’s not as bad LBIR but it was another episode I found uncomfortable and tense to listen to (I generally listen to the podcast episodes). I love KF and everyone involved and in no way do I mean to offend Greg or anyone else here, just felt the need to share because it’s rare that KF content ever makes me feel anything less than joy.

Yes, thank you. Maybe it's my fault for being super excited for this episode, only to be let down by Greg just speeding through and not remembering the plot. I think this movie definitely has a bunch of flaws, but it's a visually entertaining movie and is a great way to show how weird and versatile Edgar Wright is. The second half does definitely rush through a lot, and I think that this movie coming out after the graphic novels may have helped it. Also, I always use this movie as an example of "movies I like where you're not supposed to like the main character at first."

I think the casting of Cera is brilliant. I hate that a lady killer needs to necessarily look like Zac Efron to be believeable. I live that Scott looks like a dork but is just so self confident that he can talk his way into getting dates with pretty girls. And I think that's somewhat of a good message to dorky looking boys. Also this movie has no flaws TIM, it's perfect. Videogames, rock n Roll and kung fu all in one movie. And that cast. Perfect.

I think the point of this story is that you don't need to be punching women to be a bad guy and that even if you identify as some puppy dog nerd you can can still hurt people. Part of growing up is realizing that. That definitely resonates with me because I spent a lot of my early 20s thinking I was a victim in my relationships when come to think of it, I was just as culpable, if not entirely to blame for how things went. It plays as more of a redemption story (which is much better developed in the comics but I think enough is here for it to work but that's subjective). Anyway, big ups to Kev dog who I don't believe I have ever agreed with on anything ever in the history of anything until now 👏👌♥️

Scott is a jerk. Like you said nearly every character calls him out at some point for it. Why do you think he and Nega Scott get along? Ramona is a bit of a bitch, her words. They're not great people. There is such a thing as a protagonist that isn't heroic... The movie is a perfect adaptation when it comes to nailing the essence of the books (obviously it is compressed taking around 3 weeks vs the books' many months and they diverge in the ending since the movie came out first.) Also Zac Efron as Scott makes zero sense. Scott is an indie rock cute dorky soft guy. Efron is a good actor but this simply doesn't fit with ANYTHING we've seen him do, meanwhile it's exactly the Michael Cera shtick.
