Tbh I think it's pretty off the mark especially with the Star Wars convo. Padme is far a more fleshed out a character in Episode 1 than Leia ever was in Episode 4 but phrasing it the way he did makes its seem like there's nothing to her which you could easily do in reverse. You could easily go "Who's Padme? A child queen with the burden of leadership and responsibility thrust upon her at an early age who's forced to be wary of danger and yet still retains her hope for peace and democracy. Who's Leia? The damsel in distress." He's also ignoring the fact that they attempted exactly what he's describing with Master Chief in Halo 4 and 5 and a lot of people complained about it saying he should just be a vessel for the player.

@@Ha1frican how much of that description of padme do you actually get from the character herself though? I'd argue she doesn't give off any of that in her performance, it's just information that's given to you in other ways. Leia being someone who doesn't take anyone's shit and handles things herself is shown to you through her action and dialogue. Show don't tell and all that. There's a lot you can say about many characters from the prequels that you get told or can infer, but you don't get it from the performance. 2 lines of dialogue from han solo and you know what that character is about, the same from qui gon jin (cannot remember the spelling) and hes still an enigma, you don't know what kind of person he is. That's what I get from what Gary's saying

@@MRayGames Exactly, backstory and 'lore' doesn't add anything to character if the character itself is bland. Its their actions, dialogue, behaviour etc. that truly constitute character, beyond the obvious of looks and such. Totally agree with Gary, Xbox has mainly had characters which are pure archetypes (Master Chief, the Gears squad) of heroes, with some plot sprinkled throughout but very little depth or range overall. That being said, I do think they're trying to get away from this image..Psychonauts 2 has a great cast of characters, and I can't wait for the next Hellblade which is basically exactly the kind of narrative-heavy, character-focused sort of game that Sony excels at, albeit at a lower budget. So I think Microsoft will get there, the question is simply wether their efforts will be able to compete with those of Sony.

I think Pentament is huge. No it’s not in a bunch of Game Awards nominations but it’s an early indicator of what Microsoft can be doing for Obsidian and the other studios under its belt. Would we have still gotten great games from those studios even if they weren’t owned by Microsoft? Of course, but I don’t think we’d see nearly as many games and the games we would see would have to be made to appeal to the most people possible.

Microsoft tried to charge more for gold. They changed it the day after from the massive backlash. XOne had a lot of awful marketin from Mattrick and no games, it didnt sell well. Paris is so on the money with how Xbox have squandered so many potential franchises. For me that is one of the biggest missteps Xbox have made over the past decade with their first party output. Gary is also spot on about icon characters, they are few and far between on Xbox.

49:12 Call of Duty was actually on Nintendo well after the WW2 stuff, Black Ops 2 was on Wii U. They even had Call of Duty 4 on the Wii so its already established that they can (and probably will) make a paired down port. There's nothing about this to suggest a more powerful switch is coming although given the current systems age that's a pretty strong possiblity. It's funny that I ended up getting an XB1 before a PS4 because of that early Sunset Overdrive bundle. And I ended up playing a ton of games on it. But only a handful of exclusives really stood out: Titanfall, SSO, Horizon 3....and that's basically it. HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT ORI AND CUPHEAD. I'm a little ashamed but both those games are on other systems now.

My friends swear that I'm a Sony Pony because the vast majority of all games that I was excited for this year were either Sony exclusives, timed Sony exclusives, or multi-platform. I swear I'm not though. If Xbox didn't have GamePass at this point, I fear it'd be struggling. How is it that they cant create any single player, open world experiences akin to GoW or Horizon or Uncharted. Maybe they should take a studio, give them 3-4yrs, no reveals, no updates, just build and build and build and then stop making it look like a 7yr old designed it. Technically Oblivion was an Xbox title. But there's a reason they went out and bought studios. People need to remember that Xbox had like 3 or 4 studios during the Xbox One generation. It's only been since the last 5 years that Microsoft decided to put the money back in Xbox so all of these studios are cooking and you'd be out of your mind if you think all this talent is going to do great things. Also no excuse for Forza Horizon not making it last year. The genre bias is real.

Do you think the Witcher 1 was GOTY in 2007? No, the game sucked. Uncharted and Mass Effect were better, but they weren't totally figured out in their first entries either. It was a great year for Nintendo games, but Halo 3 was easily one of the best games that year. Xbox has fallen behind in first party output since then though. Forza games were never that good. They should've never neen considered for a GOTY nomination. Gran Turismo, which is much better than the Forza's has won a GOTY award.

I've played way more GT games and they have never been a GOTY contender, they have been the same game for years with minimal changes, bad AI, 0 damage physics, etc its a good franchise but not GOTY, its not even close to being the best in the genre, and never was. Forza might not be GOTY either, but at least tries to innovate a little bit.

Sells well and is a realistic driving experience, unlike all Forza games. Forza is only for low IQ bums or ppl who need to game with that adaptive controller. There's no realistic racing or challenge in Forza games. You can pass someone driving in the grass, they have a rewind button cause Xbox fans are the at gaming, and you Xbox fans don't like Forza. The IPs can't even sell over 3 million.

Do only the game awards count? Because Forza Horizon 5 won IGN game GOTY last year. For the game awards I think their best chance to win is next year as long as Starfield lives up to the hype.

It doesn't only count but the game awards is the mainstream show with most eyes on it and that's part of the reason why games like forza are snubbed, the game awards is trying to appeal to the mainstream and that's why they push the narrative action adventure genre more than anything else.

There's been a few GOTY awards for Xbox at different outlets, but really it boils down to Halo 1,2,3, Infinite. Gears 1,2. Forza Horizon 5. If you want to reach a bit Deathloop and Psychonauhts 2 won a few as well.

Thats not game of the year. Forza Horizon 5 was the best scoring game of its year and was nominated to a sports category. While action games(or anything else) get to be in several of them. Why are reviewers giving such high scores then in the nominations go and forget this high score games? Either the game awards are absolute trash(they are) or review scores are uselss(also are)

Parris says IPs, I say Halo was a big IP. The problem isn’t the IPs, it’s the bad execution and bad management at Xbox. Most people are just not satisfied anymore with racing and fighting games on console. Nowadays, people are more compelled by games where they can get emotional and attached to the characters. Xbox have stopped to evolve thinking tech and more power would be enough but it’s just not. Pushing low cost and cheap games when people had the chance to taste greatness won’t be enough either. So all those GamePass games I see being pushed on social medias won’t do it but rather give the perception that Xbox has only that to deliver.

This is just false. Go look at the most played games. It's free to play, sports and shooters. It's not GoW, Uncharted and Horizon. There is a distinction between what it is "critically acclaimed" and what most people actually play.

I’ve been saying they have no games since the Xbox one and ps4 era. Granted they do have Forza, gears, and halo but I don’t like any of those games. And also those are really their only great exclusives maybe besides Sunset Ovderdrive which came out years ago, and Hellblade, but I think it might be playable on PlayStation too.

Their games just get overlooked. Ori and the will of the wisps was an amazing game that should have been heavily nominated. They also don't make games that appeal to awards and that's fine. Games like sea of thieves and grounded are way more fun to me than last of us or days gone.

@@R0ndras No what I said was that the only games that people point to as big Xbox games is the same three franchises that they’ve had since the original Xbox. And like was discussed for 30 minutes in this video, many people just don’t care about racing games and Halo and Gears don’t specialize in story and characters and rely more on their gameplay which is why those series are waning in mainstream appeal. There are outliers but those few games like the ones I mentioned, are years old. In recent years Sony has dropped massive hit after hit. Whether it’s ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne, Demon Souls, Rachet, Uncharted, Last of us, etc. Xbox just doesn’t make the same quantity or quality of games. That might change but based off their track record of disappointing ip like recore and canceled projects like scalebound, I’m not too enthusiastic about their future. Like fable 4 could be dogshit. We know it’s going to be very different from the previous fables. And Avowed is a first person rpg with promise but it has to be amazing or else Xbox is going to continue to get buried.

I don't think you can really count games that started development before Xbox even owned them (Deathloop, Psychonauts), and Mass Effect was never a first party Xbox game.

It's not that much different from first party, and in fact, the way that Microsoft currently treats its first party studios (via Limited Integration) is probably very similar to the kind of relationship they'd have had with BioWare.
