Guido, how do you prepare for switching between so many aircraft types? Do you have to spend a bit of time re-reading the POH each time, or does it all come straight back? I would think it might be easy to accidentally have the vref, emergency procedures etc etc for a different type in your mind if not careful. Always enjoy your videos and learn great ADM from each one.
@GuidoWarnecke11 ай бұрын
Hi Ed, you raise an important point here. Basically I fly 3 groups of aircrafts, that are very similar: 1) the CJ Citation Jets 2) the King Airs 3) the Cessna Caravan. So far only a few PC12 and Piper Meridians. If I have not flown a type for a long time, I read the training books and familiarize myself with the cockpit layout. The flying part is easy. A challenge is the avionic setup, especially on older aircraft with avionics aftermarket installations. I budget around $30k per year for training, as I also have two ATPLs that I need to renew every 6 months: South Africa SACAA and USA FAA. Kleine Welt! Andersrum schon. I'm curious if you publish your licences anywhere or have covered your career in any interviews? You must have an FAA and South Africa CAA licence both with IFR. Even with validations, the CAA have not been fun to deal with. I can't imagine how difficult an IFR validation would be. Also interesting routing across the Atlantic. Was in St John you stopped at in between the Azores and Bangor?
@GuidoWarnecke11 ай бұрын
I lived 6 years in South Africa and got a SACAA ATPL which I renew every 6 months, since 2006. Additionally, since I moved to the US I acquired a stand alone FAA ATPL, which I also keep current every 6 months. A lot of work but essential for my job. For other countries I sometimes work with license validations. A process that gets progressively more complicated. The countries do not like foreign pilots. Botswana license validation was quite challenging. A South African SACAA license validation for a PPL/VFR is easy, to get a commercial is almost impossible. You might as well do the full license. I am sure that many ferry pilots fly without proper licensing. That works as long as you have the slightest incident/accident. I am a professional and feel also the responsibility I have toward my clients who give me their million Dollar assets for the ferry flight. Route: CYYT, St Johns is the typical entry airport on this airport for Canada. I used it too. Happy Landings, Capt.. Guido
@tds45611 ай бұрын
@@GuidoWarnecke Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm almost 9 months into a PPL/VFR validation with the CAA, and even getting this far was only due to some escalations. You are definitely helping to improve the flight skills of many people.

Thank you Tom. While I consider myself as a professional pilot on the video editing side I am still an amateur. I might seek some training as the editing process is very time consuming. If you have any advice where to get good training and/or support that would be highly appreciated. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Thank you. The RFDS is a great organization. They are doing god's work. I ferried a King Air 350 for them from the USA to Sydney. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido Please consider subscribing to my KZbin Channel and hit the "notification bell". No cost for you and you get notified about any new video uploads. Your support is highly appreciated.

Nice approach with great detailed info! I regulary fly a rental Cessna 172 with the Garmin1000 with an external autopilot (which means I have to set the QNH + altitude in both the autopilot and the Garmin1000), but the G1000 in a King Air is still at another level 🙂 Flying a Cessna Caravan 208 one day is my dream (will propably never happen but still I can dream, don't I?) but a King Air 350 is something else!

Hi Telly, the modern C172 with the C1000 are also great aircraft. Sometimes the autopilot integration in the small aircraft is not perfect, like you mentioned with the altitude and QNH. The C208 is like a C172 on steroids, flies very easy and the engine handling of the turbine is much les complex. No leaning etc. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Skipper, if you ever want some company on one of these trips, hit me up; I’d love to come along. I’m a highly qualified VFR sport pilot!

Thank you! I apologize for the typo. Editing a video is a very long process. You see the same subtitles 100x and then at the end you do not pick up typo error. You did. Thanks for watching my videos in such detail. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Guido
