Great video and rating system with side by side videos. You did a good job of making it an apples to apples comparison. I would like to have seen more information/comparisons of the off-road capabilities such as rear locking differential and crawl control. Also I noticed that the largest point gains for the Colorado mostly came in the interior and the tech portion. This may not be as important to many people who will USE their trucks for work or off roading!

The GMC and Chevy trucks look great, very nice looking interior. Beautiful trucks. I just don't trust their long-term reliability. I keep vehicles for a long time. I would take the Taco for that reason. Love its simplicy and old-school form.

And I am a realist these trucks are perfectly capable of lasting 10 plus years just fine, 20 if you do proper maintenance. I got the 2022 canyon much better ride more comfortable I test drive both. Much better everything. Feels great to have a vehicle not made of plastic and it doesn't sound like a little car when I crank it.

@@jonathanwilliam980 hope it lasts a long time for you. I test drove a canyon and ranger before buying my taco. They do drive good and more power for sure. I just love the heavy feel of the Tacoma. It's a classic throwback and has the rugged feel of old-school trucks. The thing is ancient in form but that is what we love about it lol. The Tacoma is not for everyone, I get it. I don't drive mine long distances. It's primarily my work truck on our property.

Cool video! I have owned a Colorado, a Silverado, Sierra and a Suburban. Three of these ended up having transmission problems, with the Colorado and Suburbans transmission completely frying and needing replacement. The Colorado had 70k miles and the Suburban had 55k miles. $7k to replace the transmission at the dealer (BTW, I baby my cars and barely ever towed anything). Now I own a Toyota (my third one) and have NEVER had a issue with them. For me, Toyota is the most reliable, durable and keeps its value better than any truck. I'll never go back to GM. Cool trucks for sure, great looking and comfortable to drive but Im all in on Toyota now and for good.

I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD OffRoad with a bunch of mods ~70k miles on it. I've had it sideways in OffRoad trails, bounced of old river beds in the mountains of Tennessee, jumped it on hills and I literally have had to make zero major repairs. I still have the original brake pads/drums on! However my head unit amp did blow out, which made me lose audio but guess what? I found like 4 sites who specialize in replacing it with custom units and have one at more door this week. Plug and play and keep on moving. The OEM head unit in the Tacoma SUCKS. But it did the job it needed to, is easily replaceable and isn't hardwired into the car like a tumor. The Tacoma powerplant is not fun but there are turbo and supercharger kits that you can slap on from names like Magnuson. New ECU/TCU tunes are always available such as KDMax and Orange Virus that really improve the Tacomas driveability. I also can find a Tacoma off road mod shop in every state almost. The Tacoma is a winner in ease of use and reliability. It's all about how you use it to make it fun. It's not a pavement princess and will disappoint all you Chevy/Ford/GMC fans who are used to 20k in bells and whistles and spending your time at the store talking about how Tacoma boys got soft hands lmao

Taco had issues when it came out, but Toyota took care of them. If you're in the market to buy new and reliable for years, get the taco as it hasn't changed and Toyota has made the necessary changes to make it reliable. The same won't be said when the new taco comes out. It'll have its issues and Toyota will once again work on getting the kinks out.

I've driven a Toyota Camry for years and liked it a lot, so I was initially going for a Tacoma. Unfortunately, the seating position in the Tacoma was a deal breaker. I hate the red seats… I would get black interior instead of the pimp red.

Hey thought it would be helpful to provide an update. The Colorado I had ordered unfortunately was one of the trucks that got hail damage from the storm in Missouri a few weeks ago. Thankfully, the dealership informed me of this on their own accord. However, there was still no estimated delivery time. I had ordered a Z71 with most of the options picked, so I think it is reasonable to speculate there is a part that is in shortage or just unavailable that is causing the delay. I had been waiting / saving up for a while at this point, so ended up switching back to Toyota and got a Tundra. I still really like the new Colorado's, but there were just a few too many red flags popping up to continue waiting for the particular truck I had ordered. Can't wait to see the eventual 2024 Mid-size truck show down video! : ) P.S. I like the Tundra a lot. It is definitely a big boi in comparison to a mid-size truck, though.

I’ve been driving an 18 6.2 Denali for a couple of years after 4-5 years of a taco. When the 6.2 ate the cam I found a restored salvage 19 ZR2 whilst the Denali was under the knife. Sure missed the ease of parking a smaller truck and the ZR2 is way more off road capable than any truck I’ve had. Denali for towing the enclosed trailer with the ZR1 but the ZR2 for most everything else!

The look of the Colorado is much improved. The Colorado being a new model, how reliable it will be is a big question. The new Tacoma is rumored to be revealed in two more days, it also will be all new. The Tacoma is a better bet in my opinion. The American manufactures seem to build these mid-size trucks more as an afterthought, whereas the Toyota is given a priority. Just my 2 cents.

I test drove both, as well as the Canyon and Frontier last month. They’re all expensive, but I went with the Taco. The others were comfy though. The Frontier had the worst drive, but wasn’t bad by any means. Solid truck. The Canyon was the nicest, but Hated the digital dash in the Colorado higher trim. Both almost didn’t feel like trucks. Don’t care about updated tech. Just want tech that works and that I use. The Taco just checked all the boxes for me, and I like the ride height and look better. Reliability certainly stuck out. My 2010 Sierra was always in the shop when I took it off the highway (front diff), then trans blew at only 140k. Bottom line, I don’t think any of these trucks are trash. Only truck I don’t like is the Ridgeline, but that’s cause it’s barely a truck. At that point, buy a Highlander.

A better and more equal comparison for the Colorado would be the 23 Nissan Frontier. The two literally have the same horsepower except the Frontier is NA. The Tacoma on the other hand still reign supreme in terms of reliability and resale value. Only the 2nd gen Frontier has come close to being its rival in the mid size truck category.

Don't forget to include residual values James. That is a very important factor when purchasing a vehicle. I won't insult you by suggesting which truck will be worth more after 3,5 or 10 years. The Tac's reliability record in not good compared to Toyota's cars, but then again, nor is Chevy across the range.

Hate to break it to you but a LARGE percentage of all Tacomas are built in the US. I'd dare say they are more American then whatever brand you put them up against. Toyota has made a huge commitment to be an American friendly corporation and continues to scale their manufacturing in the US, instead of outsourcing shit to Canada or South Korea like the Big 3 have. Just food for thought

@john poe I don't buy cars planning on selling them. I guess that's why we still have our 05 Colorado running good. I buy them for what I'm going to use them for. Buying a depreciating asset for what you may sell it for less than you bought it for is a great way to stay poor and shows lack of intelligence. As far a the Tacoma, is does nothing better than the competition. Hopefully the refresh in 24 changes that. Why would I want to buy a current model when it is inferior in part, mpg, comfort, tow and cabin space. Resale value? This is why people stay poor. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Until reliability is as proven as the Taco, the Toyota truck owners are not leaving. I do think the new gadget trucks will however appeal to the newer truck buyers who more recently got into thinks like winter sports or going out to parks for vlogging and social media.
