It is interesting that Helm Hammerhand and Théoden both fought great battles against the dark armies, both sounded the horn for the attack, and later both died without a (living) son, so their nephew had to take over.

"The Horn of Helm Hammerhand, shall sound in the deep. One last time." Very interesting character that doesn't get very much attention in the books. He may not have been perfect but he definitely reflects the every man and how they would react in difficult times. The show is going to b fascinating to watch. Looking forward to it 😊

Yes. Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens and Miranda Otto and others are involved in it. Check out the first video about it George The Giant Slayer did about it. Also showing the awesome Brian Cox who read aloud Tolkien’s Sigurd&Gudrun ❤

I wonder if Tolkien based the character in any way on the legendary Frankish king Charles Martel, father of Pepin the Short and grandfather of emperor Charlemagne.

Man, Helm Hammerhand: What I said in the 2nd previous video still stands, he is a powerhouse of a Man, that might have inspired the creation of the One Punch Man...Because Man, I rather be in my Hobbit Hole than fight him!!! When the movie is out I am going to say, "This is the man, who Helm's Deep is after..." and some other facts!!! Thanks Mellon for Helm Hammerhand ECH and I was correct to Build his Popularity Up, Until How Sauron could have won End of the 3rd Age Edition...Marion Baggins Out, Starting something Large and In 4 weeks from Today it will be Done and I won't have my Mondays Busy *Kind Off* No More!!!

Yoystan, thank you for being so steeped in the lore and history of my favorite universe of literature. I absolutely love your videos and especially your "What If" senerios. I have often wondered what would or could have happened had the 1st age not been as devastating as it had been in reality. Such as; what if Maeglin had not betrayed Gondolin, what if Turgon survived with most of his houses, what if Turin had not encouraged Nargothrond to build the bridge, what if Bereliand had not been completely destroyed, what if the sons of Faenor had postponed their oath to deal with the threat at hand rather than commit more kinslayings. Those are just a few of the many I've thought of the main being what if Fingolfin had not sacrificed himself in the way he did. Feel free to write me or if you have an email I'd love to compare thoughts and stories with you. I even did a revision of season 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones as well. Tha k you for everything brother.

Did Helm Hammerhand not die on his feet and remain so? I love the concept of a warrior who literally dies standing. And even in death refuses to fall.

" And then, sudden and terrible, from the tower above, the sound of the great horn of Helm rang out. All that heard that sound trembled. Many of the Orcs cast themselves on their faces and covered their ears with their claws. Back from the Deep the echoes came, blast upon blast, as if on every cliff and hill a mighty herald stood. But on the walls men looked up, listening with wonder; for the echoes did not die. Ever the horn-blasts wound on among the hills; nearer now and louder they answered one to another, blowing fierce and free. 'Helm! Helm!' the Riders shouted. 'Helm is arisen and comes back to war. Helm for Théoden King!' " Honestly when I read that the first time I got literal chills.

Now dunlending you've only held to deal with! Alone and unarmed. But you have said much already and it is my turn to speak. Freca your folly has grown with your belly. You talk of a staff, if Helm dislikes a cricket staff that is thrust upon him, he breaks it so.

Although a great warrior king, Helm hammerhand was his own worst enemy as his diplomatic foe pars creating enemies left right and centre that would end up causing his end and nearly the end of Rohan.

It makes for a good tale, but clearly a bull move on the part of a king. Punching Freca was clearly not worth all the suffering he brought upon his people. I always remember the chilling line from the appendices: “the Rohirrim were defeated and their land was overrun” Woe to the conquered.

I agree that the Rohirrim/Dunlending conflict is morally ambiguous, at best, and I personally feel that many of the Dunlendings' grievances were legitimate. It's always been my hope that when the Dunlendings sent ambassadors to Aragorn's court to negotiate, that at least some of these complaints were addressed, for no serious hope of peace could be entertained if they weren't. To be frank, I've never liked the Rohirrim much (hunting the Woses for sport goes well beyond the pale, in my eyes), and Helm's behavior is a good example of why not. He really seems like a high-functioning psychopath, more than anything else.
@phoenixrose1192
@phoenixrose1192 3 ай бұрын
The only villain in this conflict was Cirion, the steward who rewarded the land that was already settled by the Dunlendings to the Eotheod after the latter helped Gondor in a crucial battle against the Easterlings. Either the steward didn’t care, or the Dunlendings were squatting so they essentially didn’t have the right to be there anyway. The Rohirrim are definitely not the villains in this conflict since they didn’t even invade Calenardhon in the first place, if anything the moral ambiguity lies with Gondor. After the battle of Helm’s Deep Theoden (who’s an absolute hero) shows mercy by letting the Dunlendings go, despite the fact that they fought with the Uruk hai and raided the Westfold. The Woses were not necessarily hunted for sport as say, it’s also suggested in canon that it was out of a misunderstanding or fear. The hunting wasn’t even limited to the Rohirrim either but other peoples before even the Numenorean colonies in the area. As for Hammerhand…yeah he’s flawed to be sure, but it’s almost as if Rohan was still a very young country establishing itself at the time or something. And where does it say in canon that the Dunlendings sent ambassadors to Gondor?
