I knew a guy that worked for Gordon. He says he was a great boss, always happy to explain and nurture. Everyone got a first chance and a second, but make the same screw up a third time? Fireworks. One time he found out one of his KP's had become homeless and got him a bedsit and paid 3 months rent in advance. No charge. He was impressed that he still turned up for work on time and in clean whites. My friend thinks that Gordon's TV exploits are partly for the camera and branding. I'd love a bos like him, you always know where you stand and he rewards hard work. EDIT: In the UK TV shows the chefs pull together and help each other out, in the US they seem determined to fuck each other up.

As a former military and civilian chef, I know and understand how stressful the trade is. I think the medical profession and catering profession used to have the highest suicide rates, in the world, because of the pressure you're under 24/7, 365 days a year. I met Gordon Ramsey at a charity event 15yrs ago. He was charming, soft as a kitten, polite, NO PROFANITIES. He told me that when he puts on his Chef Whites, that's when he goes into Profession Mode. He's a perfecionist and expects/demands his ideology of perfection in the trade. It's a regret of mine that I never got to work with him, and learn from the master of his craft. I have the utmost respect for Gordon and the chef he learnt from, Marco Pierre White. I recommend you KZbin Marco, to see how he was as a chef. He presented the first Hells Kitchen. Ruthless, but brilliant. Hope you & QB & PB are doing well and enjoyed the Easter weekend .... Dougie, Frome, UK.

@@gregorygant4242I definitely don't think it's true that women get a bit of slack, there's a reason the industry is dominated by men, it's hard to work in a male dominated industry in the first place when you're a woman, and not a single female chef I've known will say that they get more slack, if anything all they've gotten is jeering, inappropriate comments or sexist BS from the guys they work with. not everyone you work with will be like that, but ALL of them have had at least one at every place they've worked that employs more than 4 people.

As a butcher I would deliver meat to dozens of restaurants around the Guild Hall in the City of London and was always warmly met by the chef's. What always shocked me was how manic the kitchens were. The shouting and swearing that went on constantly was like water off a ducks back to me , but it was a part of a service industry I swore I would never allow my kids ever be a part of. Crap money , unless your a chef, and really hard work for at least 5hrs non stop, and then it's clean up time. Gordon is not unique in his ways 😉...

I WISH I could, but I can't find it, but the time I laughed the most was when Ramsey was going off about a dish, called the cook over & IMMEDIATELY after he asked what was wrong, he SHOVED the plate right into the cook's chest!!! 😆 The biggest reason I laugh at people getting yelled at by Ramsey is because it's very similar to military basic training. & Ramsey is acting like a Drill Sergeant. It was touched on in these clips...It's not personal, it's professional. Ramsey isn't going to ask or Tell you to do something that he himself hasn't already done & he's not going to tell you to do something he isn't willing &/or unable to do! Obviously, SCREAMING isn't normal & gets you flustered quickly! But once you get past the loudness, it's mentoring & you can use it as motivation! You'll be dialed in & Sound Off back at Ramsey & he'll reciprocate with prideful happiness, I'm sure! Be like "Oh s**t! cook so-n-so got this! What else can I get from cook so-n-so?!?!"

I was an average sous chef but started late; in my 40s and lasted 9 months working for a chef with Michelin experience who started his own business locally. It was so physically and mentally intense I enjoyed it in twisted way but the young lad who started with me left quickly; not mature enough to cope with the relentless verbal pressure. My body broke down after losing 3 stone, it was to much and I left. They were happy with me and it was a great team to work in but I couldn't hack it in the end.😑

If you get a chance to watch Hells Kitchen Raw it is well worth it - it shows fuller footage without the editing, crazy music and narration. You'll see just how reasonable Gordon starts out, and the help he gives the contestants. The angry outbursts tend to come only after lots of build up and usually after the cooks ignore his advice. He's still an angry bunny, but it doesn't come out of nowhere. To my taste the episodes are more interesting in the Raw version as you actually see Gordon showing off his cooking skills in the thick of service. They only released a few episodes that way but well worth searching KZbin for. Edit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2S5gZiMm690fZI&ab_channel=Hell%27sKitchen
