The guy in the blue shirt at 50:30 that says "Petra, Jordan, that's it" learned all his English from tourists that came to the area. As a result he switches accents based on who he learned a word off of, so he'll use a ton of different accents just in one sentence. There's a cut clip somewhere on youtube where Karl talks to him about it, I wish they left it in as it's like nothing I've ever heard before.

Acker Bilk "Stranger on the Shore" is the song Karl played. It's a gorgeous song that surprisingly was #1 in the US when it released in 1962. I say surprisingly because Acker Bilk was British and wasn't internationally known beforehand, and the song is entirely instrumental, consisting of his clarinet playing and some string accompaniment.

The entire cruise on The Nile was horrendous. Passenger throwing up on hieroglyphs, so I heard as unable to leave boat. Sympathies for him as sure he got the lurgy too. Avoided everything salady, no Ice cubes yet got it. Jordan was my chosen destination yet Egypt made my decision easy, imo!

I was in Cairo, Egypt a week and a few days ago and although I liked the architecture and art of the country and the Cayro Egyptian Museum, I absolutely hated every moment on the streets, caused by the street "sellers", better said scammers, harrasing me constantly non stop 24/7... all that in a poor as f*** country as dirt as a petrol station's toilet in India... Thank God I've got vaccinated 4 or 5 times before going there... My stomach didn't digest their dirty food properly and I had some little problems... so I share some of the Karl's complains about that country... I totally understand him... Thank God I'm in Europe again!

Fun fact, this series is why Steve and Karl are no longer friends with Ricky, He renegotiated the contract with Sky behind their backs so he got paid 80% of the fee they were going to pay Karl as an executive producer, Steve however waved any fees because he wanted Karl to have it and only realised much later after the series finished that Ricky stole millions from Karl.

speaking of the british word for cigarettes. A friend of mine went out to America for a few months and he wanted to get a tattoo (he looks like a scary biker) and was having a laugh with the tattoo guys as he was waiting for his turn, and he said "Alright lads, I'm just going outside to smoke a fag." and they all looked at him strangely. When he came back, they brought it up and he explained that a fag is a british word for cigarette and they said "oh i see, we just thought you were going to pop outside and shoot some gay guy just to pass the time, i mean its your vacation, do what makes you happy, but that makes more sense now."

I went to Israel in 2001 and - funny story - accidentally attended the funeral of a high ranking member of Hamas in Bethlehem. Oh how we laughed. Later. Much later. It's called the Western Wall and is part of the 2nd Temple from 2000 years ago. Jewish people believe the spirit of Yahweh intersects with the physical world here. It's the holiest site in Judaism. There's also the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where Jesus was supposedly crucified. This was 20 years ago but you could buy glow in the dark Virgin Marys of various sizes from a stall outside 🤣

Airports closed for three days We'd run out of money and lived off bread and hummus while the hostel let us stay for free At Tel Aviv Airport on the 14th, waiting for the gate, I remembered I still had a live bullet in my bag that I'd kept as a "souvenir" I just dropped it behind me as I walked to the gate 🤣🙃
