Carpets are popular in the UK because they help to keep the heat in, as we live in a colder country. In recent years I would say their use has declined a bit as laminate flooring has become more popular. This family live in a typical pre-war (1920's - 30's) bay-fronted house, of which there are hundreds of thousands across the UK and they are especially numerous in the London suburbs, where these guys live. They will have wooden floorboards underneath the carpets and there might originally have been a decorative tile laid on top in the hallway. This was a great episode, personally I like Jim doing whacky stuff. Basically he is a massive pervert and, having been allowed upstairs, he just had to have a bath and sit where Jackie does, wearing her shower cap. They are lucky he wasn't knocking one out when they walked in on him!
