Should you buy Kingdom Come Deliverance in 2022?
The expansive medieval style open world provides lots of opportunity for exploration outside of the main storyline, amongst the perfect royal European setting to get lost in on foot, or on horseback. Couple that with graphics that breathe life into the lush surroundings and you have to tip you crown to Warhorse Studios and what is an impressive visual achievement, especially from a more modest independent developer.
The optimisation and occasionally clunky controls that’ll require a little patience might have some players turning this off in no time, but those that stick with it and have a tolerance for these sort of issues, I’m looking at you Skyrim lovers, are guaranteed to fall in love with Kingdom Come Deliverance.

What i love about this game is it's unrestrictedness to the game world. Many times I tackled missions only to realize that I had so much freedom to do things. I am so used to games being scripted to one or two options to handle a mission but this game almost feels like real life with how often you can go out of the confounds of the normal game perspective and do things.

I heard that Warhorse Studios want to make a Medieval game for Rockstar Games. There is a rumor going on about Rockstar making a Medieval game known as Project Medieval, which I think they can make well. They proved with GTA and Red Dead that they can make immersive worlds with lots of details. Just imagine the potential of a Medieval game by Rockstar. It would be epic.

I bought it 5 years ago, played it for like 2 hours I think. Only got as far as the castle Henry flees to. Got bored cause it was soo slow and combat felt to hard. But, re-download it a few days ago and pushed through the slow start of it. And it is amazing. Most realistic and immerse midevil type game I've ever played in my 15 years of gaming.

I deleted it at the point where he fled from his village because the mechanics were furiously frustrating. I really, really, really hated the mechanics. Combat felt like I was made of spaghetti. The dialogue was so slow (excellent voice acting and writing, but mind-numbing slow in delivery). And, believe it or not… I didn’t like Henry’s personality. 😂 But, I’d have slogged through all that if I could’ve gotten past the god-awful mechanics. I’ve been playing video games since 1995 and this was the first time I’d ever cursed at the screen. I finally experienced game-rage.

I haven't had an rpg experience like this in my life. You can tell it's a small studio that makes it, don't get me wrong. Some rough edges here and here, some glitches (nothing gamebreakimg whatsoever, if anything it's Comical), and cutscenes having a hard time rendering when it changed to a different camera. Now the biggest negatives aside, you'll never be more immersed paying a game. My first time understanding how in depth this game was, I missed and entire story mission because I was rushing through the dialogue and missed I needed to meet the character at sunrise for a scouting mission. He was SO mad and there were consequences like not having any intel on the camp were about to attack. Just great little things like that really make it for me. Also don't download a retinal mod for the bow, you eventually just feel exactly when you need to release your arrow and get increbly natural at placing the arrow well. It's a beauty of the bow combat. You start as a novice knowing nothing, and through a combination of muscle memory and your character Henry raising his skill which stabilize the bow, it becomes just another part of you. God I love this game.

Bought it when it was on sale on steam a little bit ago, the royal version of course, the fighting mechanics were so difficult for me and I was so close to just closing the game and calling it but I wanted to know what happens to Henry! So I kept at it and I'm so glad I did, with each new quest I painstakingly completed and learned more about him and the world- I've been hooked. 10 outta 10 will definitely replay whenever I finish my first play through 😊

The decision to add mods for the saving and the reticle for ease of use is a understandable. But for the saving, i feel it adds more immersion, just because it influences the player to play like how henry would more often. And for the bow, simply watch Archery Popshots Kingdom Come Deliverance if you want the prolonged answer but I will shorten it. They way you use archery in game, using instinct and whatnot to fire more accurately, and using smaller gauntlets or fore going gauntlets for better visual accuracy. So if anyone wants to play vanilla, hopefully this helps you appreciate it.

Picked it up for £7 on sale in the PS store. Got to grips with the mechanics after a frustrating first couple of days. Still die when outnumbered and agonisingly have to restart at the last save point, but has a good sense of how things SHOULD be. I’m nervous when lockpicking and stealing, I’m cautious about taking on that Cuman camp head on, I’m annoyed my favourite gambeson is now beyond repair.

Picked this game up recently during the Black Friday discounts including DLC for just €11. Knew nothing about it, just saw it as a medieval open world game so took a chance on it for the small sum of money. I'd enjoyed Skyrim and Dark Souls years ago so thought "How bad could it be?". Nice to see a review like this which ties in with my own short learning experience so far. All I can really say is. 1. It's a reasonably fun game to immerse yourself in for those that prefer to just take their time and wander around the place rather than speed-play. So that's why I liked it. 2. You start as a 16 year old Blacksmith son named Henry. Parents get killed by invaders, Henry almost dies to thugs looting the corpses of slain villagers. For me this probably should have been a different and more simple story to spare the developers all that grief and content of the scenario, especially because my character soon became just as bad if not worse than those thugs who we are supposed to be getting revenge on lol!! 🤣🤣Thug life is just easier, faster and more rewarding! 3. No seriously, this is a game where you can sneak up on people including soldiers, good guys, bad guys and either knock them out or kill them with a dagger, then simply take all of their stuff. Since that's far easier, faster(and more fun)) to do that those classic grindy "Go to A, to this, go to B, do that, return" chore kinda missions for paltry amounts of credits, one quickly becomes a lock picking, back stabbing, pick pocketing thug, at least initially to get all the great weapons and armor instead of looking like the filthy mud encrusted orphan you've become. 4. My only tips so far as a new player for a new player would be A. Complete the early few Miller missions(Pashak I think his name is) before wandering off about the place. This will allow you to sell stolen items 😁. You will discover more Millers around the map later on too and call sell stolen items to any of them along with getting very rewarding missions from them based around stealing but this particular Miller is a guy you will encounter after getting slapped hard by the thugs so just go with it. B. Improve stealth and how to pick locks(Pashak trains lock picking). Picking locks is actually easy once you get the hang of it and I recommend you adjust your mouse speed to whatever makes it the most comfortable for you(including general play). Wearing dark cloths and less armor reduces noise and increases stealth(can still carry some armor just don't wear it) which can be seen increasing or decreasing as you apply them via a little stats window. This is a game where the more you do it, the more that skill improves. C. Captain Bernard is God. He can train you in all types of combat. Personally I would recommend practice weapons to spare the costly repairs and injuries. Just practice on whatever weapon(not bows) you fancy and upskilling lowly stats will still be relatively fast even with practice weapons. Maybe when you become a very high level character, the need to switch to real weapons makes sense but for now it just doesn't nor will it you and your new character. And that's it really. Just keep training with Bernard until you upskill on whatever stats allow you to wield a decent weapon. Bernard also has some nice bandit hunting missions which reward credits but they're just fun and a good source of weapons and armor to use/wear and which can be sold "legally" to any applicable trader since they're technically not stolen(even though you battered some bandits head in to get them)). Good weapons and armor are very expensive to buy, so it makes sense just to try and source them from bandits, back turned warriors, and Cuman(The bad guys in this game)... and of course, stolen from barracks and towers within cities etc lol. EXTRA READ. So far as weapons go, I've found that bows are not very good or efficient for combat unlike a lot of other games, and maybe best left until later to bother with apart from hunting deer or rabbits for a bit of fun. Longswords seem to come with a more technically expansive combat offering and have good range for stabbing but seem to struggle against armor and don't work as good with a shield as the more workable Shortswords which are a weapon worth trying. The "Best" and most effective noob weapon that simply ignores armor and a lot of noob play is a Mace. The Mace just mashes whatever's in front of it, armor, flesh, whatever it's not bothered lol. But for a more enjoyable and less limited or dull play, I've found carrying a Mace and a Shortsword suits me overall, so that I can batter difficult heavily armored foes to death with the Mace or slice and dice the non-armored foes with the sword and enjoy a more skillful time consuming sword fight when it's just one enemy. There's also axes and hammers for a sort of compromise if needs be, for a little of both words and come in all flavors. It's For this reason also that I find it a fun game, just to play around with various builds. Try all the weapons, mix it up, try the different shields, try no shield, try all the different types of armor and helmets and just enjoy yourself really. Don't get hung up on "I MUST use only the best armor and weapons!" If you like how it looks, or how it plays etc, then go with it. In the end, you'll still kill an enemy with a "weaker" sword, it might just take one extra strike, so what. Even at that, what seems like a weaker weapon may swing or stab faster so there's more at play than first seems sometimes. What I don't really like is the fact that a lot of encounters with enemies and bandits etc are in packs so it's 1 vs 3-6 and for me this just isn't fun and takes away from the expansive combat mechanics this game offers. Sure, it's more realistic that way I guess since bandits would jump road goers in packs rather than just 1 but it's just not fun being surrounded and getting hit in the back and shot with an arrow and pushed and stabbed from all sides when you'd much rather just fight the one attacker and apply those skills and mechanics, but can't because some guy smacks you in the back of the head with a hammer or you get an arrow up the backside. Also, I've not yet had the experience to effectively switch between attacking targets so it's all a bit messy and clumsy. This game is very punishing in that regards and save points must be carefully made since they rely on purchasing a save(...drink? potion lol?) from traders. I've always preferred hard-mode games that take time to master, but I can't help but feel the game would have been far more enjoyable if at least the randomly spawning encounters along roads were against just one well trained foe, not several. Instead it's a case of walking backwards against several attacking enemies taking turns to attack and flank you, while an archer makes a pin cushion out of you... even some pesky dog gets in on the action and keeps hanging out of your arm with it's teeth during some encounters... all very annoying and imho, needless for at least the likes of a randomly spawned encounters along roads etc. For camps, ya, one would expect multiple targets and other such locations like that but otherwise no, these are not "one hit kills" sort of fights, you as a player will have your attack countered and what words best is counter attacking rather than being the aggressor. What that has meant is that for many random encounters with enemies on the road, I simply use my horse(Get a horse btw) to run away for now and for bandit camp missions, I simply wait for the cover of darkness(can use a speed up to pass time quickly) to ninja kill them one at a time(Which is actually really fun), by sneaking up on those that wander off for a walk alone, then kill the others as they sleep. Fight 5-6 armored and skilled enemies at once? Or simply sneak up on them and stab them with a dagger? Exactly. So overall, I'd say that at least for the €11 I paid it's certainly worth it and I am finding myself playing it a lot. It has flaws, there's parts I don't like mentioned above but there's a lot more I do like. Give it a try and I think most who give it a fair shake will find themselves becoming more and more attracted to it with time. It's one of those types of games that at first seems "meh..." and annoying, but them becomes one of the best games you've played(of this type). Oh and btw, If you ever figure out how to wash blood and brain matter off a mace, please let me know!!

Best game I have played in the last 5 years or more. One of my all time favorites. Answer to slow fast travel? Play hardcore which eliminates fast travel 😀. Hardcode mode is awesome. Really, with a horse you can get across the map in a few minutes. Pickpocket, lockpicking and generally stealing are not that hard once you get better at it. It is brutal early on. I do use a save mod. Agree with the criticism of the combat. The game has an opponent lock system that is great 1:1 but maddening when you are facing multiple opponents.

The amount if random exploring was amazing. Finding a random chest in the forest while exploring, or a bandit camp. Definitely top 10 for me, I only wish my PC was better able to run it. Oh, and if you like loot you will love this game. The only thing is I felt combos somewhat neutralized the combat difficulty. Once you figure out combos it trivializes a majority of enemies especially when you're doing the tourney.

My favorite game of all time. I am a master at combat, lockpicking, pick pocketing, dice, archery, etc on CONSOLE. What I think I love most about it is how there’s usually a plethora of ways to complete quests. They’re wide open for you to determine which way to proceed. I also love the story line and the acting within. I have probably about 2,500 across multiple playthroughs and I still can’t get enough. It’s hard to believe that this was brought to us by an independent, kick started studio, who’s this is their very first game ever. I think it’s darn near perfect, and I’m glad it’s the way that it is. Edit: I will say that since I’ve always played on console and have no access to mods, I cut out a tiny circle from the adhesive part of a post it, and put it in the center of my screen and it helped immensely with archery. Hope that helps

You listed 3 ways to save: 1. A forced autosave 2. Quitting (that is a save that will be overwritten on resumption I believe) and 3. Saviour Schnapps. There is a fourth way, 4. sleeping. I know the save system is criticised by many, but you do have the option to sleep and save, you can do that before any major event and so forth to minimise the lost time. Losing progress can be annoying, but it also changes the way you play and as a design choice is not one I personally criticise.

I sent to Czech Republic for a PC version of KCD after watching the introductory promotions of the game. Back then, my only game was WOW (World of Warcraft) that I played more than 10 years. Multi-player was never the attraction for me. I loved the complexity, the story, and the scenery. I put KCD on a shelf because I was still in love with WOW but could see the story was beginning to deteriorate into WOKE and as ridiculous as the last season of GOT. I eventually cancelled after they killed my favorite NPC. It was not until this year that I installed KCD. It is everything I hoped and more. I did add 3 mods to compensate for certain features that annoyed me: 1. Pebbles. Henry was able to level so why not his horse? I had the gold but did not want to swap my friend. A mod upgrades Pebbles to the best horse specs. 2. Save Game. I hate losing invested time to sudden death or game crash. I hate repeating progress even more. A mod provides saves at will and no cost. 3. Beds. Henry is a peasant, not a princess. He adventures solo in the wild. Such men learn to sleep under the stars. A mod provides a tent in the midst of nowhere. I am perfectly content to embrace all the other intricacies of KCD as intended. Those are reasonable and realistic.

I started playing this recently. I made it to the point in the story where you get a horse and I was given a quest to take out a bandit leader. I managed to isolate him and then proceeded to fight.... for a half hour... on this one enemy. It was afternoon in game when I started the duel, and it was dark when I finally gave up. I liked the story and concept of the game, I can even accept that Henry needs to learn skills. What I cannot accept is a game that does not respect my time and I uninstalled it. That battle was not the first that I had to either flee or cheese to win and I got sick of it. The point of a game is to have fun, and realism should never override game play.

KCD Is still my favourite game of all time. First played it a couple of weeks after release and although there were some issues, like you pointed out. They didn't bother me. The game was better than any issues I had. In the same regard as Fallout New Vegas and its famous issues.

My first experience with KCD was in March 2020. First lockdown in the UK. 6 months playing this absolute masterpiece. I played it the first time which was fantastic but the second time I had been in hospital over Christmas 2021 which ended with three-month mandatory isolation. This game just starts with Henry being pathetic... you learn that you are pathetic. The game really allows you to breathe your own personality into the game with your take on ways to speak to NPCs... it is fantastic. I honestly love this game... there is something about it... the way in which you interact with the environment and develop your own skills to take on the story which you learn about an interesting time within history. You may even feel you connect with certain characters such as Sir Hans Capon.... an arrogant type who believes he is above everyone else... but also with a sense of charm and charisma that you can't help but like once the story progresses. This is an obvious reflection of the character Henry who is also developing to understand and build relationships with these characters who he once was so far under. No matter who you are this game offers something to everyone. My goal is to do my third play-through. Sadly, my previous playthroughs have been uninterrupted monthly play-throughs and this will be a broken-up weekend play through, For me, Kingdom Come is something that offers an immersive experience that details a fantastic story as well as music, environment building, graphics, world, adventure, role play. Please pick up a copy of this game now and set aside a weekend to play it uninterrupted. You will not be let down.

This Last mod allows you to set up camp pretty much anywhere in the wild. I love camping in beautiful locations, reading or learning a book. Cooking some food and then leave early next moring to continue my quests.

In each KCD review I've watched, they forget you can save at a bed. It's the way I save most often, for only about 5 groschen you can find a bed at a tavern, nearly every town has one. Personally I think the saving system is a great balance of challenge and convenience. Maybe it has to do with liking dark souls, but I always sleep or use a schnapps before quitting out too. It's a great spin on an otherwise uninventive, boring mechanic. Out of all the ways they could've gone with it, I feel they absolutely knocked it out of the park. Sure, it's really frustrating when you lose a full in-game day because you died to a gang of highwaymen, but in a sense similar to dark souls, when you lose it's not because of some artificially inflated difficulty. It's because you probably made a mistake or took an unnecessary risk. And when that group of floating swords and heads DO strike me down, I remember it's a debut game, and the second KCD is in the works. I really wish there were more mods, though the mods that are available cover many of the glaring blemishes. My favorite mod isn't actually a mod, it's a few lines of config to loosen up the target lock. Absolute game changer for fighting multiple enemies. "More Responsive Lock" on Nexus

I like the game. But unlike Gothic, you cant play the game without a map (compass). People wont tell you exactly where something is located, you cant ask random people for locations and there are no road signs. This is where immersion ends and why gothic 1 and 2 are still no1 when it comes to real role playing.

the devs did their best to make everything as impractical as possible , controls, combat, map markers and then called it "realistic" ,no it's not "realistic" for a doctor who wants to cure a plagued village to ask a complete stranger to make a diagnosis from villagers symptoms, make them chose a cure and then use it whether it works or not ,and no it's not realistic to aim at the left shoulder with a bow to hit the enemy's head at point blank range ,Henry's personality is inconsistent a moment he is "oh why god allows such an injustice " and few minutes later he is volunteering to help his 2 douchebags (friends) get rid of a good guy so they can do a girl ,i had to help him understand his stupidity by introducing my mace to their faces and fail the quest.

This game is a masterpiece. If you love simulation of realism this is for you. If you love to be a killing machine, well, this is for you only if you master the combat and have 20 strength and high lvl of combat. And remember, that this is a real life representation of this part of the world as realistic as it can be. So, wanting unrealistic stuff from a game that wants realism of 15th century Bohemia is not normal. Act like you would if you lived in that time period and you will be fine.
