I don't think that it's needed, especially not anytime soon since story wise she's training with Aqua. Not exactly game material there. Honestly I'd be down for the story if Sora doesn't get saved in KH4, and later we get a game of both Riku and Kairi rather than just a solo Kairi game. I honestly disagree with her being shafted in 3, people who say that don't seem to understand her character at all. Sora and Riku already had over a year experience each when Kairi first used a Keyblade. No wonder she struggles to keep up with not only them, but multiple keyblade masters. It would be more weird if she was going full Devil May Cry on the heartless.

The idea of Kingdom Hearts ending or being continued without Nomura's involvement is still such a surreal and jarring concept that is difficult for me to process. KH has been such an enduring part of my life that playing the first game is one of my earliest conscious memories. Having it end would be like losing a part of myself almost. That being said, I can get used to the idea of the series continuing past Nomura, AS LONG AS he gets to finish Sora's story the way he envisions it and Disney doesn't continue exploiting his story past that point. I can get behind rebooting the series and taking it in a totally different direction with different creative directors doing unique things with the whole Disney/FF crossover premise. Maybe we could actually get a stronger more even blend of Final Fantasy in there in the future. I just hope Disney doesn't do what they usually do and squeeze the life out of the series by abusing our nostalgia. Part of me thinks Nomura himself is the only one who's kept Disney's worst impulses at bay with this series and tried to keep it true to his vision. Disney respects him enough that they let him hold the reins, within reason. But without him, I worry that they'd take this IP and just turn it into another empty crossover title.

to be COMPLETELY honest, if Tai Yasue takes over as director of Kingdom Hearts when Nomura retires then im 100% fine with numbered titles and Sora's story continuing as long as Nomura gives his blessing. i ABSOLUTELY trust Tai Yasue with the series and i feel like if there's ANYONE that understands the story just as much as Nomura, it's him. so yeah, any other director? get rid of Sora, get rid of the numbered titles, start anew. I feel like Nomura could still do smaller projects. Look at Hiyao Miyazaki, he probably retired like, 5 times now? But, he is so passionate about what makes him happy and that's animating moving Cinema with a message behind them. His last movie The Boy And The Heron touches on how he feels about his legacy likely being passed off to someone he doesn't know as well or that his legacy will just fall to corporate greed and become a shell of what it previously was... He needs to do what makes him happy. If it's making video games, and KH is still his passion it would be so cool to see him become what he wants for himself.

Disney & SQEX will continue to make Kingdom Hearts with or with or without Tetsuya Nomura, it’ll in all likelihood be a reboot, but I welcome that, cause it means we’ll get new creatives involved, directors, writers, producers etc, treat it like you do Final Fantasy, pass it around to different teams every now & then.

Tbh I wasn’t too surprised. After KH3, I figured the series would probably end at KH5. They need time to set up the new arc, but if KH4 was the last numbered title I don’t think they’d pitch it as the start of a new arc and they would advertise it as the final installment of the main story. I can’t imagine Sora’s journey going on much longer than two games, as it feels like we are nearing a conclusion. KH has had a special place in my heart since I first saw the commercial for KH1 and knew I needed to play it. It will always be special to me. I’d much rather it have a satisfying ending with Nomura than have Disney milk the cash cow dry like they have with all their terrible sequels.

Knowing Disney's track record in making money, I don't think that they are going to just sit back and let KH end with the Lost Master saga. I'm sure both they and Square would really talk about this, and consult with Nomura in how to bast move the franchise forward without him. Given how much money KH generates for both Disney and Square, I do think that they will at least try to keep it going without Nomura.

In fairness, it's not like Kirby really had arcs to begin with. Kirby lore only became more interconnected with the new creative director. Even stuff like the Dark Matter Trilogy (to my understanding) was another dev team's idea and not directly Sakurai's, which is probably why they're not featured as heavily in Smash as Dreamland, Adventure, or Superstar.

As much as I love Kingdom Hearts been following it since the very beginning. I hope it ends with Nomura. Too often are things continued just for the sake of money which to me disrespect the art/ artist. The actual work should be what matters most obviously the world is full of greed so sadly I know a lot of times that's not the case. I think too the Kingdom Hearts series being the last thing Nomura leaves us before he retires it will make the conclusion that much more impactful and heartfelt knowing the end also means saying goodbye to Nomura as well. I feel everything must eventually come to an end u stretch something too far and eventually it gets ruined, I would like it to end with Nomura than after for them to start a whole new IP and bring us into a whole new world/franchise

A new start in this case will give long term fans closure to these iconic characters of Nomuras vision and then we will see what new writing offers.

No I'd want the numbered titles to keep going I disagree with Nomura on that notion. The series has been around long enough that other people can do Kingdom hearts combat hell were seeing it all over the place right now. And of course there are many good writers out there too, the best thing he can do is pick someone who he knows understands the series as well as him when he retires. Fresh eyes on a long series can be a good thing, a new writer can ultize charachters in a way the creator may not even be thinking about. I can tell you I know charachters who got more shine because a new writer loved them and wanted to do more with them. In an age where franchises end up becoming much worse versions of themselves, I will admit I am a little worried about the future of KH after Nomura retires. Though like you said, that's a pretty long time from now, so we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Do we have any new info about Disney pixel rpg? The App Store says it’s supposed to release in a week and it’s very kingdom heartsesque from what I’ve seen.

Verum Rex being the new direction for the franchise after Nomura’s retirement could be really interesting. Instead of traveling to Disney worlds the way Sora does, Yozora could travel to Square Enix owned properties. Dragon Quest, Nier, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Soul Eater being good examples of potential destinations.

So if KH4 ends if Nomura retires... (Then there would be no Worlds based on Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Meet the Robinsons, Pocahontas, Emperor's New Groove, A Bug's Life etc)
