This was such a beautiful cover. Just the way that he didn't feel the need to overdo it on the vocal acrobatics that we all know that he's capable of. No, he just took a song that was beautifully simple and performed it perfectly on point. Acrobatics would have taken away from the song, not added to it, and he had the restraint to understand what was called for with this cover. I really respect that.

Is it me or is his voice still getting deeper? This is just beautiful. It was filmed in a room at Pattycake with a borrowed piano which was tuned lower than it should be. But still he more than coped with it.
@bsmith59702 жыл бұрын
It is deeper, which is normal for most voices as they age. Placido Domingo went from Tenor to Baritone roles in opera. Tenors and Sopranos have the shortest stage lives and basses the longest. There is another part here, Geoff has been working on his low chest voice so he needs fewer subs.

Shenandoah is a choral standard, from what I can tell. It's something that my daughter sang in her district choral performances pretty much every year from when she started in middle school til graduating high school. It's nice, hearing it from a full chorus, but (as per usual) Geoff transforms this lovely piece of music into something even more delicate and moving. Absolutely gorgeous, but what else would we expect from Geoff?

Shenandoah is one of three songs about America I remember from my days singing folk songs. Geoff has done this one and Country Roads. The other song is This Land is Your Land. I love songs that talk about our beautiful countryside here in America. Geoff is keeping alive many wonderful bass songs but making them his own. Yes, I loved “High and Dry”, too. Amazing range. Thanks for your reaction

I laughed when you said "they". My comment on Geoff's post was that with his reactions to the other characters, it's easy to forget that there is only one of him. And, yes, that was a key change, a lovely key change.

It's fun to see Geoff's voice grow . Specifically his higher voice . In this song and the showman medley his higher register sounds so much better than what it use to . Not to say it wasn't good before but it definitely sounds different now .

I didn't know this song until I heard Geoff singing it, and I'm totally impressed! It's like the melody and the words take me thru the Shenandoah River and Valley. Gives me a peaceful feeling about the many changes as we go thru life. You're talking about High & Dry, I believe. Great reaction!

This song is very much something I know from being in choirs. I've sung it, my dad has sung it, it's just one of those songs that seems to suit a choir. Geoff, being able to practically be a choir unto himself, made a stunning version. I love when he plays the piano and sings, and this one might now be my favorite (which is saying a lot with everything he's done.) It really fits the "oldie but a goodie" sentiment and brings me back a lot of beautiful memories. Glad you enjoyed it!

This song was written in the early 1800s and there were a lot of versions around the time of the Civil War. The Shenandoah is a river in Virginia. Geoff's range is nuts. I've said before, he hits notes most singers can only dream of hitting. He is an amazing singer. From what I've heard, a lot of other basses don't sing through the lowest notes, like Geoff.

This is an American folksong and there are lots of different takes on the lyrics. Here's a Wiki link for you: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh_Shenandoah This setting is at PattyCake Productions. The one you're thinking of is High and Dry and it was shot at his house.

This is one of my faves to sing when I was young. It's got great Harmony potential. Look up the Shenandoah river in Bentonville, Virginia!!! Being a truck driver have seen a part of the he river, it's beautiful and love to visit the park there one day, without the semi, if course! I've not seen Shenandoah river in Missouri nor KY so I've seen on Google. Good job Geoff and good reaction Big D!!❤️

This is an old folk song from the late 1800's. People aren't sure if it's about the river or the Native American chief Shenandoah so answers vary. I remember learning this in music class in the 60's

Geoff's version is great here. This is the smoothest I have heard his voice and I have been listening to him and VoicePlay for about 7 years now. The bass voice does truly mature as you get older. I'm not saying Geoff is old, he is only 41, but if you listen to Geoff in the old VoicePlay videos, you can hear a difference. I mean he was still great back then, but he has gotten a lot more smooth and resonant over the years. As far as the actual song itself, it is a beautiful, wonderful piece. My favorite version is by a group called Chanticleer. They are an all male 12 person acapella group. Even though all male, they sound a lot like a mixed group, because their sopranos and altos are that good. And they only have one bass believe it or not. If you check out their video, their bass was Eric Alatorre. Unfortunately, he is no longer with the group. He was there for nearly 30 years, so you will still find him in most of their videos that pop up. You will recognize him right away. He is the guy with the big mustache. He is another phenomenal bass. He is one of my all time favorite basses. He blends in perfectly with the other 11 guys, which is super hard to do off mic and especially when most of them are higher voice types. So, if you ever get time, check out that version. It will blow your mind and maybe make you shed a tear or two.

Shenandoah was also a 1965 movie with Jimmy Stewart. One of many great films of it's time. According to Wikipedia... Shenandoah” is an American folk song dating back to the early 19th century and is believed to have originated from French travelers journeying down the Missouri River. It was printed in the April 1876 issue of The New Dominion Monthly in an article titled "Sailor Songs," by Captain Robert Chamblet Adams. Oh Shenandoah” is a lovely song and appeared in the 1965 movie “Shenandoah,” starring Jimmy Stewart. A medley from “How the West Was Won” also includes it. The members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.

It's a folk song from the early 1800's, it's about a fur trader that falls in love with the daughter of Native American chief Shenandoah. This was filmed at Pattycake studios, the song you are thinking of is probably High and Dry.

This is a great historic folk song that I learned over 60 years ago. The odd thing is when people who had seen this early were dropping hints about Geoff's newest release, Shenandoah was the first song I thought of. The Texas Tenor trio performed this beautifully as well. My mom taught American History in HS and this was one of the folk songs she'd play for her students. I often sing this song as drive. It's just a great song for all vocal ranges.

It's an old folk tune about a fur trapper who falls in love with a native American's daughter from the Oneida tribe. Had to leave her to ply the river for the fur trade. I learned it in 3rd grade 63 years ago. He also came out with Big Bad John originally written and performed by Jimmy Dean this weekend. The is a video glitch in it that needs to be fixed.

Aight hold up so this one reminds me of the group Chanticleer doing this same song. It’s an all male group of I believe 12(?) including a couple countertenors. They do this song in a room with acoustics that make it one of the most beautiful soul searching songs. If you get the chance look it up man you won’t be disappointed
