51 years ago the Beatles became a group that will stay in my heart forever. So now Voiceplay has done a version that IS a stepped up version in A Capella form. Many Beatles songs are intentionally non-heavy percussion which is the main reason why they changed from Pete Best as their original drummer to Ringo Starr. Voiceplay's percussion section is HEAVY and SOLID, Great arranging, great leads & the changing tempo is fantastic; It works so well for the arrangement. I hope these guys stay together because they have legendary potential!! I LOVED your reaction Dennis, it was so much the way I reacted too! lol

I am also not a huge fan of the Beatles. There are some songs I like, but they aren't someone I search out to listen to. I had never heard this song, either. It's actually surprising, because I love darker/depressing type songs, lol. But I did the same, I listened to the original right before listening to VP. And I haven't been able to stop listening to VP's version since it was released for patrons! It is so good! And better than the original, imo too. Just like Geoff's High and Dry, I feel the emotion more in their versions than the originals. And the addition of the classical composition themes is masterful! I didn't realize how good Eli was at arranging, since I've gotten use to Layne and Geoff slaying at it and didn't realize the others arranged too. Also, it is the same studio as where Carry On was filmed. It was at Layne and Tony's Pattycake Productions studio. Geoff also did Sixteen Tons there. The video quality is so good at Pattycake. I love how talented these guys are in so many aspects!

I'd love to see your reaction to their Billie Eilish medley, it's one of my favorites! Panic in 4 minutes is kind of a sequel to that one as well and it's in 2 parts, if you wanted to do them both in the same video. They are all pretty short. But in the Panic video they say GD, so not sure if you'd want to do it or not. If not I'd still love to at least see a video for the Billie Eilish one!

lol, not killing YOU in the comments, but I have to say...One of my old favorite songs... while this arrangement was TECHNICALLY good, there was too much stylizing and for me the essential mournful tone of the original was lost. I was disappointed. I usually love their versions but no, just NO on this one. The lead in to the song wasn't even recognizable... detracted from the arrangement The first stanza worked and then Geoff was great, maybe under utilized in this, but "so much going on" was too much...as soon as they hit "Father Mckenzie" they lost me. This is supposed to be poignant song about loneliness...like a ghost in a graveyard feel, slightly sad... To me they got so involved in the technical and riffs that the soul of the song, its purpose, its heart ...was missing. Again, I usually like what they do, but this, for me, was a disaster. I did love what they did with Carry on my Wayward Son

Geoff is really dropping the ball with this arrangement and his presumptive role in it. He looks and sounds half asleep. There are only three vocalists here and Geoff is one of them. (Their pudgy bearded tenor with the straining voice is awol.) Geoff is supposed to bring his marvelous bass voice to the show but left it in his hotel room. Late entrances combined with uninspired renditions of what was supposed to be 1/3 plus vocal contribution. Not supporting the arrangement as any and every bass is supposed to. Not assertive but instead furtive. Too bad Voiceplay roasts another opportunity on the open fire. They almost did well but.. nope. I should have been there it could have been quite a momentous production. They must STAND to sing well. Sitting and singing simply do NOT mix !! How are you going to bring your abdominal support to your game if you are sitting on your keester? Cannot happen. This arrangement? Overcomplicated with inconsistent focus and intensity. Could have been a much deeper message. Instead we received a superficial pop version of a very great mover. Their arranger needs to be FIRED. ..

Wow, could not begin to disagree more about any of this! The only point I'll mention is the sitting piece - you know they're not singing this live, yes? It was recorded in studio and they're lip-syncing for the video. Editing to add: Obviously not everyone has to like the song, but sheesh - that's a pretty harsh take all around.
