Kings and Generals historical animated documentary series on the history of the Early Modern Era and the English civil war continues. In our previous video, we covered how the English Civil War finally broke out after decades of buildup, ultimately leading to the conflict’s first major pitched battle at Edgehill, in October 1642 ( • Battle of Edgehill 164... ). Many spectators and participants alike hoped this clash would end the conflict, but they were tragically mistaken, for the flawed generalship and heavy losses among King Charles I’s royalist army would lead to a deadlock that trapped the British Isles in bitter civil war for almost another two decades. Welcome to our third piece of the seventeenth century English Civil Wars, where we will explore the events surrounding Charles’ march on London and the campaign of 1643, culminating at the First Battle of Newbury. In this series we will cover the main battles of the civil war between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians, including Edgehill, Newsbury, Marstoon Moor, Naseby, Preston, Drogheda, Dunbar and others.

@@sentinal2343 well maybe History is divisive . . . but sports teams are moreso. . . and team spirit is heavily promoted. Seems to me fantasy battles, futuristic galactic histories like Star Wars take place of History. And video games with complex backstories have replaced books.about History. I am no paragon of virtue. Love the fact that this channel brings to life how the "war" was made up of so many battles. Not a simple, smooth single fight....must've been such a tiring time. Would be interesting to know how the "average person " lived through all of this time. That sort of history is probably not recorded. Arguments in the tavern. In the fields. Among families. Fights been villages or gangs. There are always mini borders or influential people who don't fit the general recording of history

The Battle of Turnham Green and the Battle of Newbury are two of the most underrated important battles in English history. The whole war could have been won for the royalists had either result been different. After Newbury the royalists would never again get a clear sight of victory.

I completely agree with you on that but I would also love to see 5 other lesser known conflicts that were part of British and American history in chronological order is King Willams war which was the North American theater of the nine years war and it’s also known as the first inter colonial war, after king Willams war comes queen Anne’s war which is the North American theater of the war of Spanish succession, next is father rales war, following this war is King George’s war which is the North American theater of the war of Austrian succession but the last war had a bigger impact on British history and that war is called Father Le Loutre’s war which saw the British gain control of Nova Scotia, Continental Acadia which would become the Canadian province of New Brunswick and it would also see the British take control of Prince Edward Island however these 5 wars would only be a prelude to a more bigger and more famous and more greater known conflict and this greater known conflict is the North American theater of the seven years war the French and Indian war.

Well just saying but Besides the anarchy I would love to see the revolt of 1173-1174 and I would love to see it because fighting on the side of the rebels was Scottish prince David Earl of Huntigdon and he is the father of isobel of huntingdon and isobel got married to a man named Robert De Brus 4th lord of Annandale and together they had a son named after his father and his name is Robert De Brus 5th lord of Annandale and he is a very interesting character to me because he is the paternal grandfather of queen Isabel of Norway, King Edward Brus of Ireland and paternal grandfather of King Robert the Bruce king of Scotland and had Robert the Bruce’s paternal great grandfather married isobel of humtingdon he wouldn’t have had a claim to the throne of Scotland but besides the rebellion of 1173-1174 I would also like to see the Baron’s wars, Despenser war and the invasion of England in 1326 and the Baron wars are very interesting to me because the first war saw the restoration of the Magna Carta.

I cant stress the importance of this and so many channels like this. I have always loved history since middle school. Then when smart phones came out and everyone saw infinite ways to connect to me offered freedom to explore any historical topic. Have I always been the best watcher of these channels? No but because I was too focused on me and my problems. I forgot that problems as far back as the first cave people. My life will not be defined by the problems of my time, mainly it isn't as bad as the past. We have flushing toilets and dont die on average at 30, it is not all bad. So now im quiting my corporate job, maybe not today or tomorrow but one day I am going to work at a museum and hopefully one day be a librarian. I want to teach ppl about the past as you have. Going to make a podcast talking about the moments that created ripples through time and space. Thank you...keep doing what you are doing 🙌 👏 it may have saved my life.

I'm from Newbury! Yay, hometown hero!....incidentally there is a monstrous monument in Wash Water (slightly south of Newbury) called the Falkland Monument (it's opposite the row of shops). For the longest time I thought it was commemorating the Falklands War but it is actually the place where the Parliamentary artillery was (well, ish), led by Lord Falkland. I suppose I could be wrong, but I think it might be the only monument commemorating the civil war. Oh no, wait, that's actually a lie. There is also a monument here in Yorkshire that's in a field commemorating the battle of Marston Moor. I found a musket ball there last year. Curiously the monument looks exactly the same as the one in Newbury (Wash Water). And yes, I know, I'm a southerner living in Yorkshire. I'm about as happy at that situation as Northerners are at me being here.
