I loved the second Kingsman. Yeah, I wasn't as good as the first, but it was still enjoyable and it knows what it is, a fun, over the top action, spy film. And even though Casino Royale and Skyfall are two of my favourite Bond films, I agree that Bond needs to move with the times or risk going the way of Die Another Day. But I think that's what Craig leaving will be about, they'll reinvent the character with a new actor to keep it fresh.

Batman Jr. What do y'all mean by "move with the times, anyway?? These films aren't taking themselves serious, nor do I think that they are trying to change the landscape of spy films. They're doing something different, but I don't necessarily think that the Bond films need to follow suite. Maybe it's just because I have a punk rock attitude, but whenever people use the term "move with the times" I want to punch them in the fucking face & tell the person that comment was directed toward "do what you want!!!"
@aidanrogers44387 жыл бұрын
BowditchXD I'm referring to what Mr. Sunday was saying about how the Bond producers went from Die Another Day to Casino Royale. Green screen tsunami surfing to parkour. Invisible cars to having Le Chiffre die scratching Bond's balls. This Craig section of Bond films have been good, more or less, for the past decade. But if Bond wants to remain fresh and popular, they need to change with the presence of the Kingsman films as they did with the Jason Bourne films.

Kingsman is a parody. Original shouldn't try to mimic the parody of itself. It's absolutely missing the point. If serious Bond films didn't exist we wouldn't get Kingsman and vice versa. Much lower stakes in Casino Royale (opposing to Die Another Day's radiculously high stakes) made the story much more belivable and at the same time built much more tension so it made the movie much more entertaining as a spy movie. I think Bond movies went in a very good direction now. They actually are SPY MOVIES and not blockbuster action-comedies like Kingsman for example.
@BrandonBowditch7 жыл бұрын
Umbrabellum Exactly. This guy seems to only be basing his "move with the times" comments off of his own feelings. Most people are intelligent enough to know that Kingsman's over the top nature was meant to be a parody. Not a serious take on what spy films should be. That's like saying that old school glam metal bands should "move with the times" & copy Steel Panther's over the top formula. But the thing is, we're all smart enough to understand what's serious & what's a parody. And Kingsman is a parody. Also, it's worth noting that Spectre came out after Kingsman came out before Spectre & people still traveled in troves to see it. It was a box office hit. So I don't think the Bond films need to change for anybody. They need to go about things their own way. Not copy what is popular right now.

I understand that Kingsman is meant to be a parody but he's right saying the Daniel Craig bond films are boring. I've fallen asleep during every single one except Spectre which I didn't even bother seeing. I think the main difference between the films is that for Kingsman movies (even the second) I don't want them to end where as with the bond films I just want to fast forward to all the action sequences and be done with it.
@iamsamsamiam11217 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't think we're going to get a complete reimagining of Bond based on Kingsman, but I think it's inevitable that we'll see the franchise become a lot more "fun" and perhaps less grounded. I mean, they've done grounded and realistic and it worked great but Spectre was more of the same. With the new technology available they can make a campy Bond film like the old ones and still have it feel fresh and new.

I doubt it. There CAN be TWO types of spy films: the Kingsmen style AND badass gritty Bond one. This is like the Deadpool effect: just cause it worked for him, doesn't mean now ALL superhero movies should be treated with the Deadpool style. KM and JB can co-exist within their own unique looks and treatments. Maybe tweak Bond to be more like "American Assassin": way deadlier and younger, but actually enjoying the job, like the badass he should be.

Taken tired itself out and Bond merely absorbed Borne… Kingsman is that brand of WTF that’s hard to do properly. It’s like Adult Cartoons: Family Guy lasts forever and adapts to the times and mocks popular culture and competitors at times. Then along comes Rick and Morty, Archer, Bojack Horseman… Of Family Guy did ANYTHING more than it’s over the top fights except with more jokes (like archer) then it’d be called out and/or do it sloppy. Bond is a product of its ORIGINAL time! It just ebbs and flows from one trend to another always as it’s about to slow down. And if Janes Bond ever does the Kingsman route with impulsive swearing, rough kid in a mannerly environment and overly explicit violence and funny quips throughout… it just wouldn’t be JB. The spy genre is wide but can be comical, serious, and everything else but Kingsman is how the modern era and spies interact in a more “human” way with swearing, brutal deaths, and people joking around even as the world ends.
@ThreadBomb7 жыл бұрын
Look at it this way: Bond may have taken influence from Bourne, but Bourne has since died in a ditch while Bond is still going. The underlying JB formula is built for longevity, whereas Bourne didn't really need even one sequel.

And while I'm on the subject: what is it with parallels between Kingsman and MiB anyway? 1st film, streetwise younger character stumbles upon secret organisation, gains older mentor, gets involved; film 2, female villain, mentor with amnesia, expanded role for cute pug... if Kingsman 3 includes time travel, I will laugh... and leave, lol! :D

And again, 2016 Jason Bourne, while a solid movie, showed Bourne's days are over while Spectre fared much better critically and box office-wise. Kingsman is Bond Jr, inheriently mimicking the likeness and putting a more in-depth spin on it, as opposed to the generic trope of "villain wants to destroy world, Mr. X goes to save it", without all the seriousness and book origins mixed in, which is what makes it so fun. Archer, however, is a completely different level.

Honestly though. Roxy and Merlin were two of my favorite parts of the first, and one went out all lackluster like and the other sacrificed himself to kill what? 5 guards? He could have just sat on that mine until the statesmen bring in a bomb squad or something. And as for Harry, while I was shocked that they killed him, I had already come to terms with his death and was quite proud that they had the guts to do so. Then this film rolls around and screws all that over. He was the one person who you could have left dead. Also, how dare they kill both JB and Mr. Pickle's already dead, stuffed corpse.

It would be so cool to see the Bond films go back to the 60's

The next one should just be Eggsy goes on a mission and is instantly recognised everywhere he goes, so he wears the kingsman glasses, but with a mustache attached as a disguise

You know that scene in the new Star Trek when Spock refused to say to himself his customary goodbye cause it would feel oddly self gratifying ? When you quoted your self did you feel oddly self gratification? Lol 😂

Watching that clip...you (James) really are just your character (Mr. Sunday) aren't you? I love it! Plus it gives hope that Mason (Mason) is really like his character (Maso). And, y'know, that's a plus. Orwhatever.

I believe it's part of a broader shift in movies from being dark, overly serious, joyless, bombastic films.

I like to think that above the ideas board in the James Bond film offices are two lights, one 'serious' and one 'silly'. The guy who was pitching the Die Another Day sequel was going fine UNTIL the head got a phone call. "Yep, sure, I understand" [Presses light switch to switch it from 'serious' to 'silly'] 'I'm afraid we have to let you go" [Opens trapdoor] "Sir, the trapdoor is too silly now. Next time just shoot him." "Fine."

I agree with you James that Movie Fights wasn't your finest moment, Millennial Falcon was your finest moment.

In the description, it says "may not may not be" when it should be "may or may not be". You disappoint me goat man.

The current Bond comic by Ellis is really good. It's the not kind of Bond folks are used to and that's great. Its a Bond who's having a bit more fun, a new direction and an honest feel. It is similar to the movies in that it's an intentional inversion of all the Bond tropes though.
