Ive been doing strict pullups with weight for years and i still cannot string together more than 7 kipping. Theres no way to keep up with most wods without them. Everyone talks crap about kipping but it does require skill.

MyCeeman Of course it does, gymnasts do it to gather momentum so they can start their training. A kipping pull up does nothing for you, it's used to pull yourself above the bar and start a gymnastics training, it should not be part of a normal workout. Moreover, the people who are supposed to kip, don't do it one after another, they do it at the start of a routine. Kipping too many times in a row is a good way to injure your shoulders.

What's so great about the strict pull up people? I can do strict and Kipping and I do both regularly, but as a personal preference kipping is more fun and more athletic; requiring more skill. A strict is only about strength. Nobody says you only have to do one

kipping...athletic. kipping requires no athleticism. none. you might be able to do both kinds but that is just silly to say that is requires more skill. if you define skill as being able to hump the air and throw your torso and hips around....then ok....but that's not high skill in my book!

It is. It's the start of every routine on a bar for most. It's also heavily frowned upon by the 'gainz' population, because it's not purely about strength, but utilizes a lot more timing and explosiveness to get over that bar. I can do a few strict muscle-ups, and I can do a few full kip's in a row (legs and arms completely straight, which is key). Both have their advantages, both should be trained as they are. People tend to get lost in their ways when they look at a kip as an 'easy pull-up', while it's an entirely different beast in itself.

You never progress kipping. The only way is a slight kip to get that last rep out.
