Kiriko was the first support added to Overwatch 2 and there's been no other character in the games history who's been as omnipresent as her since their release. It's nearly a little too much actually. Kiriko is Overwatch's Favourite Child, so let's find out why.

On top of this is also the names of the abilities, "cleansing suzu", "healing ofuda", "Kunai" which all didn't need to be in japanese. They could've easily been called cleanse, throwing knife, and paper heal. They never put any effort into other character's ability names. They never gave bap the "fusíl medicinale" of Reinhardt the "erdbeben strike" But Kiriko gets to use japanese medieval digging tools as a precision weapon. Some paper as her magic healing, a bell for magic healing and cleansing, and a magic fox spirit which summons Japanese Torii gates.

@@xythiera7255 Ana and zen have no mobility. Brig has to be in the enemy face to get value. Lifeweaver has subpar mobility. Lucio can’t heal a lot, is team dependent, and takes a lot of skill. Illari can be dived, her heals are inconsistent, and spamming her shots won’t save you. The only supports who can be almost as problematic as Kiri are Bap and Moira, who have received nerfs that aren’t slaps on the wrist. Even then they still have hitboxes that aren’t the size of tracer. Kiri has 2 get out of jail cards, a tiny af hitbox, and a freaking wall climb on top of that. Something has to give 🥴

One small thing about Kiriko is that she threw a monkey wrench into the lore of Overwatch. Like Blizzard refuses to acknowledge magic being a thing in OW and Hanzo and Genji's ults can be passed off as nanobots or something like that. Kirko throwing a bag of flower to cleanse her allies, her blinking through walls to allies, and her kitsune rush summoning a FOX SPIRIT... yea blizzard is trying to say that isn't magic. Most characters are using sci fi tools, but then we got Kiriko who uses magical weapons. Edit: The comment section reminded me of kiriko’s age and i completely forgot about her age. She has no right being in her 20’s while the shimada brothers are in their 30’s to 40’s. Blizzard’s writing team for overwatch screwed up basic logic with their lore recently

I think the intent is supposed to be "It's debatable (in-universe) whether it is magic" rather than a black and white yes or no. But the amount of writers and constant shifting of them confuses it. Zenyatta has always been using what seems to be magic since it's said he uses no known way to hover yet does anyway Kiriko being both 21 and 40-ish at the same time due to training with Genji and Hanzo when they were young but is also half their age is a less excusable lore mistake

My biggest gripe with Kiriko is just… this. This whole comment. She’s just someone’s self-insert. Always quick with a witty one-liner, fulfills every role in the game, has this random power set even though there’s no explanation as to why she can do what she can do… And you know what? What the hell does she have to do with kitsunes? I remember designing a fox character back in the day. I researched classical tricksters, contemporary fox “lore”- I was invested! Foxes are my favorite animal! We get a character all about foxes? Great! But she isn’t! She’s not even a “trickster”! The most sly, elusive thing about her kit is the fact that she can teleport away from you every two seconds. I know, she’s a support, so you can’t give her all the same abilities you’d give to a character like Sombra… oh, wait! You can! Because designing a tricky character and designing a support are not exclusive things! Oh em gee! But other than her mystical kitsune spirit and that stupid little helmet, nothing about her screams “fox” or “kitsune” or “vulpine” to me. I’m not saying she has to be in a neon orange fur suit, but I am saying that it’s a bit annoying to me that she’s just… Japan Girl. You know what I mean? I don’t even know what I mean, honestly. But everything about her is just… stereotypical weeb fantasy stuff. It just feels like cash grab, marketable, merchandizing bullshit *personified*. What surprises me the most about kiriko is that she became the perfect heal bot by accident. Once she gets to higher ranks she’ll always have someone in a good position to tp to, her heals can’t be stopped by anti and unlike Moira her heals are consistent without the need to manage a meter.

Kiriko is genuinely the most problematic hero ever added, not just to the game, but just in general to the franchise. - Overtuned and overcompensated kit. She doesn't have any weaknesses, and can effectively counter/play into anything (Without having to change how the hero is normally played). - Anytime she gets a nerf, she gets a bunch of compensation that usually makes it a net buff anyway. - No risk, High Reward gameplay loop. Very low skill floor. - Gets a new skin every month. - You can figure out everything about Kiriko simply by looking at her. What you would think when someone says "Japanese Aesthetics" (Take Mei for example. When you look at Mei, you can tell that she's ice-themed. However, you'd have to do a bit of digging to find out that she's a climatologist who is sweet and optimistic despite how tragic her past is. None of her personality or design has anything to due with the fact that she's Chinese.) - Lore and Age make no sense, and contradicts / overwrites pre-established lore. (Basically, Shoved into lore at the expense of retconning Genji and Hanzo's story (Similar to a self-insert)). Blizzard wanted to cash in on the idea of a "secret third Shimada" and wanted her to be connected to the Shimada Bros (Which she really didn't need to be), but couldn't be bothered to make her older than 30, because then she couldn't be "Young and Quirky" like Dva. - Blizzard insists that she has to be a part of everything despite the community's strong hatred and disinterest towards her. - Bland and boring personality. No flaws. Feels like she gets all her lines from the "quirky" character in a Nickelodeon sit com. - Has been S-tier since Day 1 and still hasn't received any large scale nerfs.

I think they could've very easily just made her mom a local, everyday swordsman teacher (Instead of the "best sword master in the world", which just seems like lazy and exaggerated writing, and just pretentious in general) who trained the brothers one time (The brothers most likely would've been trained by the Clans own elders regularly), and Kiriko could've just been some little kid who wanted her mom to train her too. Only for her to be like, "I don't want you anywhere near that." Which, to me, seems far more interesting than what we got. A Japanese geisha with a crane spirit would've been cool for support. She can sing to heal and throw fan blades to deal damage. Her ult is a short song that gives her team a supercharge buff, but she has to remain idle or partially slow and her team has to defend her to keep the buff as long as possible. Her mobility option would be enchanting her fans with the crane spirit to get a small boost in any direction she's looking at, giving her momentum. Her secondary healing would be where she does a high note to knock back enemies and heal teammates, which forces you to choose to survive or help the team.

Anyway the writing quality in general has gone down quite a bit, but tbf it's not like OW1 didn't have its own duds, namely Pharah and Hanzo who funnily enough had complaints similar to the ones Sojourn and Illari have. It's just that we've had a lot of time for them to grow on us. And imo, Overwatch, ever since day 1, had an issue of making most of its heroic characters just sort of generically nice and wholesome. It's funny of me to say it, since I just defended LW who has that same issue, but at least he has a bit of a rebellious streak which is more than what I can say about, say, Mercy or Tracer.

Up until s9 there was always something in the meta that ppl generally hated more than tracer (like hog during one shot meta, mauga during mauga meta, soj, kiriko, etc.) It was only after season 9 that ppl started to find her more annoying when she got bigger projectiles, more hp and indirect buffs because less things one shot her (like mei secondary). So she basically became slightly more forgiving and accessible. Oh yea, and the dps passive.

Exactly, Zen is supposed to be THE glass cannon/damage support, he has no movement, no self-heal, no defense of any kind except for his damage and Transcend, and his healing is some of the lowest in the roster, so his damage better be that much better than every other support to compensate, but without Discord (and its mega nerf), he does less primary dps than Kiriko or Baptiste.

Kiriko and Moira are the two large reasons I quit OW2. I played it casually with friends and never got very good, and the fact that some characters like those two were so slippery for me to kill and so abundant that I couldn't even fight them. Kiri apologists love to say that magic exists in other abilities (rez, shimada dragons, zen). But they forget that those characters typically only have one unexplainable ability (mercy, shimadas) that could be based in their other abilities OR are explicitly stated as noncanon (zen). Afaik, NO explanation has been given to kiri for Anything in her kit aside from her origin of "she uses ancient techniques and modern skills", but there isn't even anything modern/technological in her kit. It's ALL magic or kunai.

My take is that something as strong as invincibility should NEVER be an ability that just goes on cooldown, no matter what. I primarily play support (Ana main since 2018) and I believe that what made Ana such a great support is that she is fun to play as, is not the absolute hardest to pick up, but is one of the hardest heroes in the game to master and has two powerful abilities that you need to be really smart with using. What makes Ana well designed is that her abilities either wins a fight or leaves her to the sharks. Kiri on the other hand is always super powerful. She never has a point of weakness and there is no counterplay to her. With Anas nade. You can either hard push Ana once she has used it or back off. Also, making an Ana use it defensively is not too hard to do. Sleep dart is one of the hardest abilities in the game to master and it is so easy to miss it. It also has a super long cooldown and leaves Ana vunerable for the entire duration of the cooldown, but it can set up huge plays for your team. Suzu on the other hand has everything and no counterplay. It also does not leave an open window to kill Kiri. Same with swift step. No counterplay and no skill needed for it. The only skill with Kiris abilities is mastering the timing of Suzu, which is not too hard to do. I rarely play her but I usually manage to land big Suzus. In my opinion. I think making swift step into a smoke bomb that makes Kiri invisible while she is inside of it would be a better and more "character fitting" thing to do (considering she is supposed to be some sort of ninja I guess). And make the suzu only two of the things it is. In my humble opinion, make it cleanse ability ccs but not ults and make it so you can still deal knockback to suzu-ed targets. Also, nerf her projectile size, aka Hanzo-logs Jr.

I think that, from a shitty OW player, that Suzu and the ult are cool and are (mostly) fine I think the way to “fix her” is simple; make her TP not invincible, give it a longer cooldown, or throw it in the nerf wringer all together. Let her do (maybe slightly nerfed) damage, and play up with her team, but don’t let her get out of jail free whenever she wants. Reward players for getting a pick on her, not the other way around.

Oh, also, on the subject of why Swift Step has invulv is because it's how teleports are coded into the game. Ever notice how all self-cast teleports have invulv frames/clensing effects? I suspect this is due to preventing a hero from dying to DoT damage while the code is instantly changing your x/y/z/ axis location (since where you die is maked in the game's memory, dying a 0x0y0z would cause a HUGE server stopping error or accidently cause problem with anti-cheat thinking players are cheating by being logged being in null cords)

Kiri's a very VERY confused case for me, she's meant to be the archetypal character of a trickster, someone who throws an unexpected wrench in a fight and is an all rounder in utility or unexpected burst damage (i'm thinking dnd rogue being a good representation of this), but the fact she even has moderate heals in the first place KILLS her identity because now she's a burst damage healer cleanser buffer (and borderline sniper, ngl) . Issue with that is that if you nerf her healing hard then she's basically gonna have the EXACT same identity crisis as sombra ( always saw kiri as a reverse sombra anyway) . she has the same problems as sombra but instead of being confused on what to do and where to go she just said Yes to every question and became everything at once.

I think she should get 25 less HP for starters. With her awkward and slim hitbox, her ability to teleport to a nearby ally within 35 meters, and suzu, giving her less HP would be great to make her definitively more vulnerable and riskier to play when she already has two get-out-of-jail cards. Also, I'd reduce her kunai count down to 12 or even 10. She already has one of the fastest reloads in the game (1 second reload), so why does she also get to have 15 frickin' kunai to work with, along with healing that reloads on its own when it's not being used? With the teleport, I think increasing the cooldown would be enough; 7 seconds is pretty nutty for an ability like Swift Step. Maybe something like 9 seconds. In regards to Suzu, I'd remove the intangibility/phase-out effect. It's understated, but my god is it annoying that they just phase out of existence and not even knockback can affect suzu'd enemies. Doomfist players will definitely know how painful it is to just whiff a juicy punch and then land into the abyss because Kiriko decided to teleport in and suzu her allies. Also yeah, reduce the base healing down from 80 to, like, 40. I actually don't mind how big a boost in healing it gets when it purifies negative effects, but I think reducing the base healing will encourage Kiriko players to save it for, well, actually cleansing negative effects, in addition to the invincibility effect it provides. Kitsune Rush, I think, is mostly fine as it is? I'd reduce the duration to 10 seconds, reduce the movement speed bonus to +25%. That's about it, really. Curious to hear what other people think about tweaking Kitsune Rush though.

This I feel sums up my frustration about Kiriko perfectly. I myself also love the design concept and playing as them, but playing against a kiri? Absolutely INFURIATING. She literally feels like they took the positives of multiple other characters into one and then shed all the negatives. Tracer's high damage potential and very tough to hit hitbox? What if they had MORE health and better range? Mercy or Ana's single healing output? This one goes through shields and has good range in one, best of both worlds! Mercy and Bap have mobility tools to get to teammates and escape danger if used well? Well kiri just nopes tf out with a literal teleport, cause who needs to be punished for bad positioning anyways! A high damage dps like Zen or Illari that trades high damage for middling support or heals, or high utility and healing for lifeweaver with little offensive presence? Who needs that when you can pump out more healing AND damage than half the other supports combined, with good range to boot, suck it brig! Kiriko alone just does what almost every other support does, and sheds every downside and flaw of the other supports, while still having so much additionally utility to the point of whole fights revolving around dealing with the kiri first otherwise you stright up lose. After all, almost every tank ult and lot of dps ults all can get shut down INSANELY by one singular cooldown, by a character that's tougher to pin down and kill than even the likes of Lucio or Tracer at times.

I think giving Kiriko more agency would improve her since her design as it is now can be narrowed down to "Can't TP? Suzu yourself out of trouble. Can't Suzu? Literally all they have to do is make it so if you take damage and your Swift Step cooldown is less than a second (including not being on cooldown) the cooldown is set to 1s. This makes it so you can actually punish overcommitted Kiri while still allowing her to outplay you by playing less aggro to get out or take the risk and win the duel It wouldn't feel unfair if I knew I could've prevented the tp by hitting her, it wouldn't feel unfair if I knew I shouldn't have gone overaggressive as Kiri jumping anyone and anything that moves. Not sure if you remember this at all Pixel, but Ana had a similar situation with Nano being a broken ultimate on her release where she was able to give her teammate 50% DMG reduction, 50% DMG boost, and a 30%(?) movement speed increase. It was so broken that the meta at the time was Beyblade where is was nano Reaper ulting whilst being boosted by Lucio speed boost. It was so broken that they had to remove the speed increase from Nano. Where am I going with this? My point being why in god's name does Kiriko's ultimate provide FOUR benefits for no reason?! She doesn't to provide that much utility in her ultimate to make it valuable. Just remove 2 of those benefits to make it a balanced ultimate. My personal suggestion would be remove the cooldown reduction and the reload speed bonus and keep the ATK speed bonus and the movement speed bonus.

Honestly, as a support main who sometimes plays kiriko I never really thought about this stuff until today, and I agree with pretty much everything. Suzu, Kitsune Rush and Swift Step probably need a peg or two knocked down. For swift step I'd be fine with no invincibility but keep the range. I feel suzu should be the main invulnerability-giver in her kit. Though I can see a short ranged invulnerability window teleport being loved more. Maybe for another potential hero? For kitsune rush just cut the cooldown thing. The rest is fine. For suzu the main thing should be cleanse, but just because of video games I can't help but feel a cleanse should come with healing. But it is a bit much given healing ofuda is supposed to be the main thing, especially with the random bonus. Maybe just keep it a small amount of healing, like 30 or so to keep the cleanse the main focus with some knockback? Or just heal and knockback. I'd probably prefer the second.

Coming from someone who played since 2016 this character is just the biggest middle finger from gameplay and lore You can’t really fix a character that has everything without messing with the identity people who play them likes, but I would suggest Significantly longer cool-down times to mitigate how unpuniahable and impactful she is. Making the teleport be doubled to 12 seconds at least would make you need to be more conscious about using it, but you shouldn’t need it so much because 1: hit box and 2: wallclimb making you already one of the hardest things to hit Suzu cancels out Ults, and all damage and fixes debufs, it is an objectively better version of immortality field (which everyone despised gutturaly) and yet is less than half the CD duration (also turning of JQ’s entire existence) so it really should be a 20 second cool-down at least

Dude, I think it would be cool to have a Junkrat video. He's been bad or niche in every season, with no hope of him being good in the future, while having a high skill ceiling. It would make for an interesting video.

i feel like kirikos most annoying factor is just how fast her abilities are. swift step? instant. suzu? extremely short travel time. kitsune? extremely fast fox. you cant stop any of them. there is literally no warning before she uses any of her abilities. if swift step was more like reaper tp, it would be nowhere near as infuriating to play against. if suzu didn't instantly stop every single death without fail excluding getting actively sprayed down by a bastion, i wouldnt be so annoyed by its existence. if kitsune had the ability to be cancelled i wouldnt get upset every time it got used. (it doesnt even really need a slow charge up i just think its weird that nano can be cancelled but kitsune cant be.) if her voicelines didnt sound like they were made by a 14 year old wattpad user, i wouldnt want to die everytime i play her.

OKAY. I'VE BEEN WAITING A LONG TIME TO SAY THIS. As a Lifeweaver main, the October 31, 2023 patch baffled me so much. If you're wondering why, the cooldown of life grip was increased from 16 seconds to 19 seconds. The ability that does a small heal, gives invulnerability, and forces a player to reposition, was hit HARD. Know what else happened that patch? Kiriko had Suzu CD increased from 14 to 15 seconds. People say that Life Grip is an infinite value ability, but then what does that make Suzu? Infinite times 5? Life Grip is literally the Aleph Null to Suzu's infinity and beyond (Aleph Null, in simple terms, is the smallest infinity). But she gets to have a 15 second cooldown on the ability? Throw in a Kitsune Rush, and she can use that ability two to three times in a single teamfight! Not to mention, Life Grip doesn't even cleanse the target, so if they get hit with anti-nade, slept, knocked down, etc., they will still be in that state as long as they're supposed to be. Suzu is an AOE invulnerability ability that also provides a decent heal with no disruption to your team's tempo. All of that, on top of the damn headshots ; - ; Okay, done being salty now.

Compare the newer supports to the original. Mercy, zen, Lucio, and Ana all do things other than heal. Discord, anti, damage boost, speed boost, Rez… Also they all heal in different ways. Beam, aoe. Sniper, orb. Bap, kiri, Moira, Illari, LW, all just shoot heals with right click. They all have crazy escape abilities or immortality or both. It’s just the same frustrating hero again and again.

Increase the cd of her TP from 7 to 10, or give it a short charge up of like half a sec. Suzu. Make it a targetable cleanse, which only cleanses the target person, but give overhealth if you cleanse a debuff. Remove its invulnerability and reduce its cd from 15 to and down to 7 or 8 seconds. Would make it stay a cleanse, but without making most of the roster feel useless with their ults/abilities if they land an amazing shot. This is what i'd do.
