@@ryanb8736 Just because you didn't know it, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist on German cars. BMW is recalling too with braking assistance. Mercedes Benz has electrical issues as well. Most of the issues sometimes has to do with the supplier and I agree with you, where it is built. Made in Japan cars has less, not zero, issues. As long as car manufacturers address all issues brought up by customers ASAP, they can come up with a fix to the problem. I am not sure how the dealerships relay the issues though.

I was a technician at Honda the majority of the things I did was recalls and oil changes. Honda isn’t what it used to be unfortunately.

What about Honda's steering rack issue? Whe. hour steering rack fails its impossible to drive the car straight. In some instances, it can become super dangerous when trying to make minor correction while at speed, often making you over correct. Combined with rain, it makes for a very dangerous situation. It personally happened to me twice on my '22 Civic Si. I have had the steering rack replaced twice, the second of which took me nearly 2 months to get. Car only has 46k miles.

It’s because they cut back on quality. Inflation went up too high. So thru had to cut back and find cheaper suppliers or double the price of the vehicles.

My love for Honda has forever been tainted. My steering rack abruptly failed in my 2014 Accord last month. The dealer said it would be covered under TSB after initial diagnosis. Two weeks go by with no loaner vehicle and lack of communication from the dealer in the proceeding week. Get a message early in the morning on pick up day saying it isn’t going to be covered under the TSB and I would have to pay for labor (Honda NA covered the rack). Apparently my VIN wasn’t covered, but my car pulled the correct code and was in the model year range. The advisor literally told me they would put the old BROKEN rack back in if I wasn’t going to pay. The whole situation was a crock of shit and will probably lead to me never getting another Honda.

Even? Toyota has had huge recalls. Unintended acceleration, faulty suspension parts, rusting frames, fuel pumps, sludge issues etc. They're super shady. They've brought people in for a "free maintenance procedure" so it doesn't get recorded as a recall. The unintended acceleration was over a billion dollar lawsuit. Plus their vehicles look like they were designed by a kid.

They have a good reputation from the past but their cars aren’t as reliable nor exciting as they used to be, yet they are more expensive than the competition. I bought a 2023 Pilot and I can tell you in the 6 months and 9000miles I have driven it, I have experienced the phantom emergency braking about twice. In those cases I just kept my foot on the gas pedal to override. My right foot is always resting ever so slightly on the pedal even tho ACC and LKAS is engaged. Just in case crap like this occurs. The manual indicates situations where these systems may not work properly and in 1 of 2 cases for me it matched a scenario. I have had no issues with vehicle, however, the QC cannot compare to my JDM Hondas.

I had the same problem with the ford escape. Like you said applying the gas overides it. I think its a sensitivity problem.

To be fair, the fuel pump issue is on DENSO. The tire recalls are on Bridgestone. The Takata recalls are of course on Takata.

2018 Acura RDX owner, bought as it was the last year of the model and thought they’d worked out any bugs… got a letter in the mail from Acura Canada 2017/2018 models could have a serious transmission problem because some part wasn’t built to spec and can break, no recall only extended warranty for 3 years/X # of kms - which we will never hit because we don’t drive it extensively. Also, got a fuel pump recall a couple months later. Not looking great for the reliability, probably won’t do Honda/Acura again after this one. 5th Honda in the family: 1999 Accord 4cly a total beast, the way they should be 2002 Accord, same model as 1999 but v6, fundamental transmission problem design, not recalled. 2002 Honda Civic - head gasket blew at 150k kms, 90k miles. Overall decent car. 2014 Honda Accord 4cly, engine just eats oil at 100 miles, they say it’s normal. No recall on the 2014 model, but recalls on early models of the same car for excessive oil consumption. 2018 Acura RDX, recalls/trans problem stated above. Hondas are not that reliable as we’d believe. Thats over $150k spent on those cars over the 24 years and not worth it for a sub .500 batting average. Very disappointed, will go Lexus next time.

It also comes down to luck. On our ninth Honda since the 1980's and not a single major issue with any of them. All have been super reliable and never broke down. Had new Subaru, VW and Nissan that all had serious and dangerous problems that resulted in sale in less than a year. No car brand is perfect, but some are statistically better than others 😊

We purchased a 2019 Passport that did exactly as described here. Thank God there were in vehicles near us when the SUV just slammed on the brakes. My wife was just as shook up as myself. It was perfectly clear, blue sky, no vehicles in front or to the rear. I took it into the Honda garage and mentioned that if we were on the interstate there would most likely have been a bad accident. We went from 55 mph to 5 in about 1 second. The service dept stated that they had zero issues and would do nothing about it. We traded it in and took a huge loss on it (traded 2019 in 2019 with very low miles. We just didn't want to take another chance at losing our life. BTW Kirk...this happened on Immokalee Rd by the tomato fields where it goes from 2 lane to 4 lane a mile or so from Arthrex.

Was gonna pick up a top trim Pilot, but the price was a bit high for me for a vehicle that wasn’t a hybrid, and was missing some features that the Grand Highlander has. After hearing about all these recalls (both now and then) I decided to completely hold back on it. Makes me incredibly sad to see such a well respected company slip up so bad that it has so many recalls at once. Even one recall is a big deal, but having multiple at the same time is absurd, but truly disheartening to see.

My 23 Integra has been in the service department for over 2 weeks because of the sticky steering wheel issue. They wanted to give back without fixing the issue, but a Technician drove the car home and was able to recreate the issue

The steering rack isn’t supposed to be an issue with Integras only Civics so Acura hasn’t addressed the issue as a whole yet, but it is an issue with Integras too. My steering issues wasn’t too bad because I drive in the city and only experienced the issue when I was turning on a highway overpass. Great car and I came from a 21 RDX that I didn’t like too much

Honda also has another problem with the 6 gen Goldwing now also, the 2018 to present Goldwings are having engine stops and doesn’t restart from and internal bolt failure. The Goldwings have the standard for reliability for ages now. I ride a 2106 F6B wing, so I’m happy. But go to Goldwing Docs, KZbin or website for the details.

I have a 2013 Accord Coupe V6 EXL. The forward collision warning system will alert at random when there is no obstruction. Seems to have problems especially when driving from daylight into shadows. I have always said how glad I am that it isn’t actually connected to any automatic braking or steering, because it would be so dangerous.

I am not as forgiving of recalls. I think they do represent a quality control issue which may haunt the simplest and the most critical functions of a car. Cars are getting too complex. My local Volvo dealership was absolutely useless in the care of my 2013 XC-60 and I cannot imagine what life in a new, far more complex, Volvo would be like. My 2018 Odyssey has done the phantom breaking to me once on the freeway as I passed a wall that cast a shake onto the pavement. I was lucky enough to not have any cars near me to crash into me as the vehicle tried to engage in an emergency stop. All the tech now essentially mandated on cars makes me really question how long I can keep them and how much it’ll cost to do so. I had several cars since new, some started in my family for many years. However, I don’t think that’ll be possible anymore. Add car prices that have skyrocketing and I’m gradually less and less interested in the automotive industry. I almost feel like it’s jumped the shark and it may no longer be my greatest passion.

Driving my 2021 civic hatch sport down the freeway one time, the day was somewhat cloudy. I was just cruising along the 60 here in CA, around 65-70mph. Then the auto brake just kicked in, I almost stopped in the middle of the freeway. Good thing the cars behind me were still far off. Another instance was when I was driving over a railroad crossing. My civic just stopped immediately, brake warning went off I didn't know what happened. I just let go of the gas a little bit then the car started moving again. Good thing there wasn't any train passing by. I'd still get a honda over anything though. They're pretty much on top of finding important things that need fixing.

For years Honda’s quality has been average to poor. Yes most people still swear by them because they don’t break down initially in the first few years but they do more so than ever. Engine block cracks, (2006-008 civic) premature wear on brakes (08-10 accord) faulty transmissions (03-07 Accord) last generation Honda Pilot engine maladies engine oil Dilution on Honda 1.5t’s, valve cover issues on Honda 1.5t’s AC condenser poorly made in civics fuel pump recalls, poorly made airbag sensors etcetera. In the end as much as recalls are annoying it’s t their suppliers that cut corners on quality and design that lead to these issues and doesn’t mean that the product is bad. Same goes for other brands with these issues. Good perception on Honda will still Stay high.

I remember a couple of years ago I heard Mazda had a similar issue with the mazda 3. Last time I heard, the issue had to do with the paint of the car over the sensor making the sensor think it had to hit the brakes.

I had the 2016 Honda Civic touring and had these braking "alert" issues (CMBS) whenever I am on a curve road with metal side rails where it gives off warning "brake" and a rapid vibration on the steering wheel. Same thing happens when there are temporary steel plates on the road. The owner's manual mentioned tons of limitations and possible activations. I guess it's time to shop for a Land Rover.

I had a ford escape that did the same. If you step on the accelerator it will override the sensor inputed stop command. Its a sensitivity problem. I notice it ocurring when you pass another vehicle.

I had a lot of electrical problems with our 2013 Accord Touring v6 and 2014 Accord Sport i4, and now our 2016 CRV that we still own has parasitic battery drain that the dealer never figured out, all were purchased new. I never have any issues with all 3 of the Toyotas we owned.

The biggest issue of them all are the head gasket issues on the 1.5T that Honda REFUSES to address and that’s before even mentioning the fuel injector issues. I will say this, at least they own up to their defective products and that’s what matters most!

My immediate family has leased a number of Hondas, including a 2021 Honda Passport Elite. I drove it from Cincinnati to Indianapolis, and I have to say the experience while driving on the highway was great until it would slam on the brakes when I'd have my turn signal on and would go around a car. It happened twice. Kind of a crazy experience. I own a 2021 Subaru Outback, and have to say the Subaru systems seem a little more sorted out compared to the Hondas. Is it perfect - no, but it seems to be a lot better.

I can confirm this issue on my 19accord. It’s only happened once, but out of nowhere “Brake” flashed on my heads up display and the car quickly stabbed at the brakes. Fortunately it was just a quick tapping of the brakes but is still very concerning.

This will be expanded. My 2017 Pilot and my wife’s 2019 Acura RDX has frequent false brake alerts with nothing there . I have learned to just slightly move the steering wheel left and right to keep it from braking. I’d rather keep them even with their little issue than the garbage built since the Pandemic. Every make is showing more issues even Lexus.

If the recalls are for the components that Honda made in-house, that's a concern. Other than that, it's just a quality issue from the oem suppliers that will impact other car manufacturers soon or later. Honda did have some issues with their new turbo engines, however, but so far, I don't see ppl talk about it anymore, may be they fixed it in later iterations

Recalls are pretty normal IMO. My highlander has had 3 recalls, 2 fixed one pending because it hasn’t happened. Wait the new passport isn’t coming out until the end of 2025? 😮

Bought a 2018 Honda Civic used for its "reliability". It has had 2 AC compressors put in (under warranty) as they are defective and stop working. They know there's an issue and have added an extended warranty on them. They just keep replacing them as I don't think they know how to fix them. Also the oil dilution issue scares me with this thing, the OEM brakes lasted the least amount of time of any car I've ever owned, and I've gotten the recall notice for the fuel pump. I've owned an Acura way back in 1989 and thought I was buying Honda because it was a good purchase. It will be the last one I buy...

my Audi a4 has similar issue, it scares the shit out of me. it brakes when I was making left turn/u turn with on coming traffic just passed by. I think it will be common with all the safety sensing now

Been waiting for months on that fuel pump recall. Dealer says they occasionally can get one or two in. Car runs fine tho so i sit on the list and wait.

Have a 2009 Accord and 2019 Pilot. Accord has been bulletproof. Oil changes a couple of battery replacements, routine brake jobs and a starter replacement are all I’ve had to do for the Accord with 187k miles on it. The Pilot is a different story. With only 66k miles I’m having to replace the catalytic converter that is fortunately under warranty. The fuel injectors also need to be replaced. There was a service bulletin that extended the warranty on the injectors but the dealership told me my vehicle isn’t covered due to VIN lookup so they offered me a goodwill repair which I’m splitting the cost. And to boot, there’s a recall on a fuel pump component. To make matters worse all parts are on back order and I’ve been waiting 3 weeks. Honda needs to do better.

I've been Honda owner since 1996. Reliability has never been an issue until my 2016 Honda Pilot. with 94,000 miles on it, the transmission is failing and needs a replacement at the cost of $9,000(transmission and Labour), for a re-manufactured transmission. Also had the rear differential swapped out under warranty. I am likely to go with Toyota 4runner next gen, when it comes out.

As a consumer we pay i lot of money on th cars. The manufacturer should put a good quality to last and to be reliable for years. The other day i show a guy paid $80+ for the car a big SUV like jeep wagoneer and after couple miles he has to replace the transmission.

I had a ‘22 MDX and I SWEAR this used to happen… I had it for two years and in that time, maybe 2-3 times the EBS would activate when there was nothing around me… Nothing ever came of it and I just chalked it up to a quirky system, but yeah. I believe this 100%. I bet they are going to find this in more honda products than just this original few hundred thousand too.. How many people are out there like me that was just like “Eh, ok, whatever…”

@japanwatchconnection .I bought used a 2007 pilot. Was a 5 years old with a 100k. I trade it in on May 2019. Had 401k original mileage. Car was using I lot of oil. The piston wasn't good, not power. I bought a 2016 CRV. Best car also. Now I have 160k not issues. I don't know how the 2024 CRV if is still reliable like the old generation.

I for one blame the government. They are forcing these automakers to turn to certain tech that isn’t as robust or proven such as CVT transmissions. Toyota and Honda in particular are conservative in their development and implementation which is in part why they are reliable. Look at Ford. As soon as it started its 3 year cycle of refreshes quality and reliability went down. It’s too much change too fast to perfect the implementation.

Kirk, of course recalls are a sign of declining reliability. Recalls are the worst indicator. It means the company released a defective product onto the market and was forced to initiate an expensive recall in order to save face, prevent future injury to their customers, or avoid lawsuits. Short of cars spontaneously combusting there aren't many more indicators of poor product development than a recall. Now, frequency of recalls is important too. An occasional recall may not indicate declining reliability, company culture, or poor practices but regular recalls certainly do imo. Honda, sice roughly 2010 has seen a number of recalls. They are not the brand they were before that time.

Suppliers aren't what they used to be. There's 4 recalls on my 2020 Honda Civic Coupe built in Alliston, ON, Canada. 2 are fuel delivery issues (gas/oil mixing). 1 is a brake related and the last is an airbag problem, that every brand l know of has had as well. With all the chip problems, supply chain disaster, and other COVID related interruptions, l see this as a reflection of the times as well as potentially a Honda Institutional problem.

Have a 2002 CRV with 198,000 miles. Had a 2012 pilot that had constant problems once it became 4 years old old. Traded it in with 65,000 miles for a 2017 CRV. Problems started within months with the oil dilution issue. Kept it going till 2023 with 62,000 miles and had a head gasket issue. Traded it in and upgraded to a 2023 Lexus Gx460 and still have my 2002 CRV. Honda just got so bad with quality control.

Yes my 2023 accord hybrid detects ghost cars way too much. Luckily I haven’t had it activate but just flash up the braking warning. It has this happen on the freeway at high speed and I think to myself please God no don’t brake right now!

Happens with my Subaru it drives me nuts. Car ahead of me goes into right turn lane , I keep in my lane and go ahead of him because he’s slowing down for his turn and surprise Subaru brakes because it thinks I’m gonna got him….. he’s in a different lane 🤦‍♂️ hate new cars

All these computerized safety complications, not only create the chance of more glitches, but takes the responsibility of driving away from the drivers. Why Nissan’s e-power hasn’t been imported to USA, is a great question.
