Wow, the video you shared is really helpful. It's thanks to videos like these that I managed to avoid a similar situation when I first arrived in this country. The dealer tried to tack on a bunch of extra services that would have doubled the quote I got from the Toyota website. Despite all her attempts, she claimed to be giving me a discount as a welcome gesture to the country-things like extended warranty, tire insurance, maintenance, etc. In the end, I stood firm and told her to remove all those extra services, or else I'd take my business elsewhere. Thanks again for sharing such a informative and helpful video.

My wife and I recently purchased a 2024 CRV after our first 2 options flamed out. My wife wanted a CX5, I wanted a RAV4. The CX5 didn’t work for us, so our hearts were set on a RAV4. We went to 3 dealerships. We were finally able to get a test drive at the 3rd, albeit on an older hybrid version (we just wanted the base model, non hybrid). The arrogance, lack of customer service and severe mark ups pushed us to our 3rd option: Honda. There we received great customer service, a fair price and we were able to test drive the model we were interested in. I’m sorry that the Honda in AB took advantage of that couple, but our experience here in Toronto ON was the complete opposite. Toyota dealers here are the absolute scum of the earth and because of their price gouging and lack of customer service, they’ve lost customers for life.

Some years ago I owned a 2003 Toyota Taco Double cab automatic 4WD and I was living in Fresno, California, I was told that in order to get my A/C working, I had to pay a Toyota dealer $200.00 just for inspection if something was wrong such as low freon and what needs to be fixed and this wouldn't go toward the repair of the A/C. I thought that was ridiculous. Then, my family and I moved to Utah, a mechanic shop owner just added freon to my 2003 Tacoma and everything was fixed just for $100.00.

At the dealers desk- they signed on the first offer. Some crazy amount down and still 500+ monthly. The deal went south just a few days later. The BANK actually called us back and said NO. They would not fund them unless we put them into a nicer car. It just so happened that we had the same Honda Accord in the higher EX trim with leather. We called them back and told them we had made a mistake and hoped they liked this car better. They were both over the moon. The older man loved the moon roof, which was not offered on the LX. Soon after- I realized I could not continue to work for people like this and quit. Customers really need to be smarter going into these dealerships.

I worked for a Buick dealership in 1990 part time as I was attending college and the mark up range was between $2000-$4000 depending on the model (with the sales rep getting 25% of the profit), back then when cars were much cheaper. I had access to the invoice papers, so I saw it for myself. Then you add the hold back, floor planning, etc and you have a much higher mark up on todays vehicles.

In New Zealand 90,000 dollars is 54,000 US dollars which is perfectly reasonable for a high demand hybrid outside the US where cars typically cost more. The customer just needed to buy their car in New Zealand instead of Alberta 😀. Luckily cars cost less in the US even when they are made somewhere else. I just bought a fully loaded BMW X2 in the U.S. for $51k on the sticker, there were no up-sales or add-ons, and the dealer discounted the car to $47k, so he basically ate the California taxes and license fess which are the highest in the US. There is a KZbin video showing an X2 in a dealership in Germany which is also option loaded, but has the 3 cylinder 1.5 liter engine instead of the 2 liter 4, and front drive instead of all wheel drive. The car had a sticker that converted to 56k in US dollars. Almost 10k more for a lower equipment level car, purchased in the country of manufacture!

Hey I enjoyed your video. I just have one detail I would like you to think about. You seem like a very productive man that knows about money. So in my opinion if you have the money to pay cash for a car that would be the wrong thing still to do. If your interest rate is jot higher than 4 or 5%. If someone can pay cash well look at your high interest yeilding accounts which are more likely 4% and maybe 6% if maybe treasure bonds or whatever else. All I am saying is it is smarter to keep the money in those accounts accumulating interest than paying for a car cash. Do the math both ways and you will come to my same conclusion
