Good review. My daughter is waiting for a 2022 Sienna Hybrid XSE AWD in Celestial Silver right now. We saw one in that color and it was stunning. The XSE has a more sporty look but still has all of the features that she wanted. She's been told that it could be a long wait but she's in it for the long haul as it could take 6 months to get one. What crazy times we live in right now. Having a Sienna Prime would be amazing! Now how about some new information on the GR Corolla that I'm waiting for!!

Thanks for not being biased in any way. Even tho we only typically own Toyota and Lexus products, I still get tired of seeing some channels unable to give unbiased opinions on their favorite brands. The reason we don’t currently own the new Sienna is that pathetic infotainment screen and the rear entertainment not being up to par. Everything else is good enough, but now we are leaving towards a new sequoia trd pro with all the tech/capability upgrades in that. I only hope the Sienna can adopt the larger screen option from the highlander soon.

For the rear entertainment system, the easiest way is to get an Android tablet, download all the media you want, and use Miracast to connect the tablet wirelessly to the entertainment system. No data plan, no HDMI cable, etc. You just simply cast your tablet to the big screen and enjoy the media through the car speakers.

Kirk is absolutely correct on the absence of ODD support; this kind of integral display audio (AV nav) system could (and should) be easily implemented with a passenger glove compartment-mounted (or center console box-mounted) ODD module (up to BD compatibility), and this ODD is especially important on minivans like this one, when it comes to rear seat entertainment support. Just refer to the Asian-spec Alphard/Vellfire/Lexus LM as well as the latest JDM Noah/Voxy for reference......

@@rmat9023You just don't call a vehicular ODD a "CD player" anymore; many have had at least CD/DVD compatibility since long ago, and a few even have up to BD support, esp. those installed on SUVs and MPVs (unless otherwise stated). However many separate ODD modules these days have dropped BD support, as in the case of modern 2DIN full head units with internal ODD. There's still a need for offline A/V entertainment compatibility even though connected and memory-based infotainment has become commonplace.

Agree. Also didn't love the brown in Platinum... or the dark headliner that comes with brown and some of the other interior colors, made the space feel small. For the TV, I gave up trying to stream off a phone or tablet...its a hassle. I did a Roku in the HDMI, give the kids the remote, and stream off the cell data plan. One TRICK... I stream disney plus, and I can go in the settings to turn down the quality and save data. Low stream quality still looks good on a tv that size. (It only affects that particular App/Roku, so my other devices in the house stay on the higher quality. Might work in some of the other apps too, only tried with disney so far.)

we sold our limited palisade and bought XLE. Absolutely loving it. If you have more than one kid, don't think twice buy a minivan and this is the best minivan in the market now. It is super slow compare to other minivans and suv's. Also the worst backup camera ever. But if you can live with these two, this is the best choice. the mpg is great no other 7 seater can beat that.

I took delivery of a '22 Platinum a couple of weeks ago. I'd watched videos on how it drove and several testers said it was noisy. I understand how you can't play music on KZbin because of copyright, so I was pleased to find when I am driving with the radio going and the a/c blowing, the noise isn't that noticeable. I have the AWD with the 18" wheels and it rides like a dream. I bought the Platinum because it was the only one with heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, which is important to me living in the Northeast. I wish they would have made those available in lower trims. It's such a nice car to drive and I'm hoping it will have good reliability for years to come. Great video Kirk!

Thanks for your note John. We were constantly shuttling between Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Toyota Sienna Platinum hybrid mostly because Pacifica has much better interiors with a $7500 tax credit though Toyota trumps in safety, reliability and resale value. We are planning to order the platinum AWD trim soon, though there seems to be a huge wait time here in NJ. Any other comments on your experience so far with the vehicle in terms of pick up, driving feel so far would be really helpful. Thanks.

I had a 2017 Pacifica, and there wasn't enough travel in the driver's seat for me (I'm 6' 2") because with stow n go, the middle row seats are fixed and don't slide, so they can fold into the floor. They redesigned the seats from the old Town and Country we had, which did have sliding seats. I know the Pacifica Hydrid doesn't have stow n go, so the middle seats do slide a bit. So the Sienna's driver's seat slides so much further back, and the middle row super slide seats are fantastic. For 2022, they added the ottoman seats in the second row with AWD, as long as you don;t get the spare wheel. They are so comfortable. We got the Platinum because we wanted the heated steering wheel and heated rear seats and the head up display. The head up display is superb. I was tooling around town last week and got 36 mpg. It goes down a bit when your foot is a bit heavier, but still in the high 20's. I start the car with my Apple watch, and when I was unloading the car, I got a notification that the doors were open. It can tell you when the car is unlocked too. I was disappointed to find it didn;t have LED interior lights, so I bought a pack from Amazon and they're easy to fit, apart from the map lights at the front. A neighbor of mine rented a Pacifica Hybrid for a trip and said not all chargers have the same head, it was difficult to try and find a charging point, some charged faster than others, and he had to get a few apps to pay for the charge. With the Toyota, there's none of that. Something to think about. Here in NY, there's the same supply issue. I got lucky, saw it on the website and went to the dealer and put a deposit down as it was in transit. I bought it sight unseen. The thing is, they'll keep advertising it on the website until you drive it off the lot in case you back out, so you think there are cars for sale when they're really already bought. Any other questions, ask away. I'm happy to give you an opinion. I've only had the car 3 weeks but happy to help. Good luck with your purchase. I don't think you'll regret it.

I bought a 2021 Sienna XSE AWD in Canada beginning of 2021 and fuel saving is good for this size of vehicule altought I keep wishing for more electric use like a Prime would offer. The engine keeps coming on when I'd like to stay in electric and sometimes doesn't make sense (like when going down a hill). The EV feature is most of the time unavailable because the battery is not big enough so it somethimes won't let me move it in the drive way without starting the gas engine. I agree with you Kirk, they should do a prime and way faster than 2025 because there will be better options by then like fully electric most likely. I also don't like that the spare tire is only available on the base model in Canada and you can't even get it as an option like inb the US. That is an option I would have paid to get! Bad move to not even offer it as a dealer install or order option since I had to order it anyways. For that much money, I agree that the screen and other small stuff sould have been better quality but I'll have to live with it... Seats in second row should have been removable but there are no perfect vehicule, it's always compromises... Hoping for reliability to go with that fuel economy. My best fuel economy in summer was 5.9L/100km or 39.8 mpg mix highway and town and I usually get 6.4L/100km or 36.75 mpg. Winter is more around 9.8 L/100km or 24.0 mpg because of the heater and warming up this big vehicule that mostly keeps the engine on. Once warm, it's about 7.5L/100km or 31.36 mpg.

I think The Toyota Sienna and the Honda Odessy are the most used vehicles for driving to Disneyworld. If you open youtube and you look for a Disneyworld family roadtrip or a disney vacation. Than you will always find a family with loads of kids driving thousands of miles in a Odessy or Sienna.. kids in de back watching disney films. And in the front mom and dad vlogging trying to look like a happy perfectly family but inside they are super tired and irritated …

In Canada we have slightly different trims and less customizations. That missing spare tire was a deal breaker for me. It’s available standard here on the LE (base model) trim, but not available here *at all* on the XLE, XSE. I looked at buying my own spare and jack and just lugging them loose in the trunk. In the end I decided to save the money and just buy an LE AWD. Got it in January!

You can take out the 2nd row. It's just not convenient. But even without Prime it is still only 35 cents an hour to run the A/C or heat for Motel Sienna mode. Super nice.

I agree with you but on the second row the reason that they don’t come out is because there’s side torso airbags and Toyota doesn’t want their owners messing with airbag wires it’s a trade off better safety but at the expense of less cargo flexibility i mean it is possible to remove them but that’s at your own risk

Thank god the spare tire is even available as an option with AWD. Back then if you got the sienna AWD you had to lose your spare tire because the drive shaft to the rear was located in the same spot the spare tire went

…??? Price seems off. Built in Fridge and vacuum are no longer available. But if you have the version with two 120 Volt-1500 Watt (max combined) inverter your ok. You can have a microwave, coffee maker, fridge etc

Depending on each family's needs. I live in Canada so I want my family to have heated second-row seats and AWD. We often keep our vehicles for at least 5 years so purchasing the top trim with all available features makes all the senses.

Yeah powering your electronics up to 1500 watts is a terrible idea lol All your going to do is drain the hybrid battery faster which Toyota service department would love and get hit with a 4k-6k battery replacement. If its a lease then whatever but if your keeping than bad idea

Kirk is admittedly significantly biased toward foreign cars, but in videos like this, it's apparent he's stretching to overcompensate for the vehicle's shortcomings by repeating verbiage like "unfortunate". It's not "unfortunate" that the console, dashboard, rear entertainment, infotainment and sunroof look like something out of a 2010 model, it's OUTDATED. My 2016 Yukon Denali had standard WIFI, why isn't this standard in a 2022 family road trip vehicle? I get the perceived value of Toyota is long term reliability, but who the hell wants to drive a vehicle for 10 years, if it felt 10 years old when you bought it brand new? There's a reason the Chrysler Pacifica dominates this field, it has strong brand loyalty amongst owners who never seem to have to use the word, "unfortunate".

@@KirkKreifels 100% agree, all recalls are unfortunate, including recalls experienced when Toyota recalled certain 2020-2021 Toyota Avalon and 2020 Avalon Hybrid, RAV4, and RAV4 Hybrid vehicles. The sad reality is, the risk of a recall increases as manufacturers boldly add new technology and / or innovation into their vehicles. I guess, to your point, one benefit to producing a vehicle with technology and amenities that were developed 10 years ago and rarely adding current day tech and amenities, is there is less likelihood of a recall. Also, with significantly fewer sales due to consistently lower customer demand and interest, it's highly unlikely the Sienna will experience a high volume recall. I suspect having current day features most customers are looking for might explain why Chrysler continues to dominate the minivan field. It's also very unlikely that the "new" Lexus LS600 will experience high volume recalls, since it too looks like it was designed in 2010, and the "refreshed" model has no chance of competing against the Cadillac Escalade, BMW X7, Jeep Wagoneer or Lincoln Navigator. Hopefully the Lexus sales reps can really stress the benefit of buying a new vehicle with amenities that have been tested for more than a decade during customer test drives, because when customers leave to check out alternatives in this class, most of them won't be coming back. This model will continue to lag it's competitors and in true Lexus fashion, it won't receive it's next "redesign" for another 6 - 10 years.
