Hit the backside on a pow day if you can time it. Unforgettable experience. Lots of hikeables with hidden chutes. Worth the drive if you can find a place to park.

Blue runs at Kirkwood are equal to most mountain's groomed black runs. When snow conditions are good, it can be awesome, but if icy, it can be scary as H311.

yes please come back and meetup with a local to show you all of the cool chutes and drops that aren't really on the map btw I have some videos skiing at Kirkwood and there's some pretty cool and hidden drops in there. (i don't mean to self advertise)

The drive up 88 on the western slope isn't bad, about on par with other CA resorts south of lake tahoe. Kirkwood is probably the best balance of terrain/snow reliability vs. crowds in CA. It's not as accessible from tahoe as every other resort in the area which cuts down on crowds, and the snow is more reliable than resorts farther south like dodge ridge or china peak. If I just lived closer it'd be my home mountain. A hidden jem for sure.

Most resorts have a park but don't go to Kirkwood to ride in the park. That would be kinda like going to a specific mountain to ride the bunny slopes at this particular mountain. This mountain offers what few other mountains offer. Take advantage of those things.

Their park imo was always underrated. Good for learners it’s not too big. But yea I used to only go when it snowed since northstar is so much better for park

I would also note about Kirkwood's accessibility, that it is between two passes that get shut down for avalanche mitigation. Also their terrain parks have been somewhat decent, sometimes late to be built. However they do have a lot of natural half-pipe features.

Kirkwood is just amazing, you can get power, groomed, icy, go to the mini parks, big parks,literally anything you want! It’s just really stormy this ski season, but overall Kirkwood is a good place to ski at.

I live near Dodge Ridge so of course I would always have a pass there, but for two seasons I also had passes for Kirkwood. 10/10 for sure, my riding got so good out there. I miss riding so much, never take it for granted.

I rode Kirkwood yesterday. Was icy at the bottom, decent mid mountain, hard pack up top. Definitely a VERY steep mountain that's more for skiers or advanced boarders.

Whenever you get to the east coast I recommend going to seven springs it's a very good east coast resort

P.S. if you do go back, try and get there in mid March. The North American Freeski/ride Championship is held there, and it’s amazing to see!

I just rode at Kirkwood on Christmas Eve, it’s definitely one of the toughest all around terrain in Tahoe. There was barely a run without moguls, which is no problem for me, but my less experienced friends had a tough time at first. The very small terrain park was set up near the base but was only one feature long, actually had a fun quarter pipe dropping in before some 3 or 4 various features lined up side by side. It’s beautiful advanced technical terrain that will make a better rider out of you, but def lacking in the parks department nowadays.
@kaylabarile820710 ай бұрын
If you go now it’s less mogaly and they opened more terrain parks

shredded CO all my life and heading to Kirkwood at the end of February. We shall see how it stacks up. looks super sick. Kind of like A basin with a hint of vail back bowls I’m thinking.

Heading over there this coming Tuesday after the incoming snow dump. Never been and I suck still. So i expect to be tumbling down the doubles instead of riding down.

Kirkwood is great for all levels of riders. Timber creek on the right side of the mountain is geared towards beginners and intermediate riders.

kirkwood terrain is nice and steep at parts, chairlifts are slow and lame, and runs are short. still has some small-town vibes which is refreshing for vail resorts
